ouch, yeah akqa is definitely BTC... they've worked previously on Xbox and Microsoft projects... they'd better get all their halo stuff offline quick Shocked (hopefully that's all there is anyhow, otherwise if it's publically available, it will inevitably be found)

Aww man, that's amateurish. *bummed*

Mmm, might akqa be a site-scrape that someone got creative with? Unless those new images can be stegged, I don't see any point in changing them, particularly stonehenge, and the changes to the text (making the links go to doyougrok) give us no additional information we couldn't have gotten from an obvious view-source on the original.

Its not a site-scrape, that's a very detailed site for a multimedia marketing firm.
True that there was nothing really new or usefull, but personally, I don't like to ruin the illusion that TINAG, even for myself. Also, we don't know what else might show up in that directory that could alter the outcome of the story.

But you're right.... that is kinda amateurish......... Confused

reeeeally hoping these guys, if they are relatively new to 'the game', will quickly catch on to the precision strategy they need... they may be learning just now how thorough and unforgiving the community really is Smile

But hey, looks good so far, so I have hopes. Bringing in a story arc that doesn't have to directly with the video game takes it out of the realm of strict media-share marketing, like others have been - simply solving puzzles to unlock videos and pictures related to the product. Looks like there will definitely be a story-arc forming, so that's a Good Thing as it stands

Yeah, unfortunately it almost assuredly rules 42entertainment out of this ARG. But I think we should give this other company some time. They might end up making something just as entertaining as Bees.

Interestingly, http://206.16.223.59/ has an Unauthorized lock on it as well, albeit, not an IIS error.

Addendum: They seem to have a penchant for odd numbers.

Yeah, that's for the game developer kit that consumers can buy, XNA. Definitely not related, but nice to see MS using more IP addresses in that range, I guess.

Yeah, of course I'll give them the benefit of the doubt. Smile But so far, the execution has been... sloppy. And the ingame stuff we've gotten have been simultaneously slicker (in terms of web design) and yet somehow less exciting/inspired/well-written than ILB was. Maybe it's the explicit linkage of the ARG with Halo 3 promotional materials, but so far I'm having a much tougher time suspending my disbelief ("This Is Not A Game") in proper ARG player fashion this time around.

Ah well. Time will tell.

The sloppy presentation, while it does suck, is something that is to be expected when a company does something as stupid as post on one of the most populated forums on the interweb. ILB was practically a secret; about 3 people I know personally have ever even heard of it, much less participated. But the fact that those who did got such a grand reward made the whole idea of it much more interesting.

Now it seems either Microsoft or Bungie have gotten greedy, and tried to make this a big tie-in to the most wanted game of 2007. They weren't counting on, it seems, the entire population of Internet to go at this thing as fast and as viciously as possible, leading to the discovery of the PM's website, something that is never supposed to happen until after an ARG is over.

I'm gonna say right now that if Bungie and AKQA can recover from all this and still make a well thought out, interesting-storylined ARG, I'll be very impressed.

I do not think the story-line is at going to suffer because of what they did, but it may inhibit the end user experience as we have to sift through all of the bungie.net morons and just the other useless people who are haphazardly trying to participate and add in their useless opinions to the game. ( No one on this forum of course. Very Happy )

I think it simply got too big. I really wish that if anything, they had just posted on HBO or even here, since this is such a big ARG central space and left the 12 year old bungie.net posters out of this.

It probably is better they did not post here, for then this space would have been flooded with same said people. At least we can enjoy it in peace here. Safe Haven if you will.

Plus, it would be a breach of the unfiction TOS.

My thought is that we will never have an ILB experience again in that, things just all worked the way they should have for us during that event. The build up, engaging story/characters, etc.

Now we were expecting something to happen and know alot more about these games based on our past experiences. A bit of the magic is left behind, if you will. Only thing to do is make the best of it, it's still fun.
