I agree, why would M$ hire him then tell him to put up SOTA.com when there is nothing there?

Here's an interesting thought... is anyone going to the movies this weekend? If so, pay attention to the trailers that air before, especially if you are catching FF2. Will they follow past behavior and sneak a link on the big screen?

As most have speculated, I doubt Bungie intended for the /comic link to be found this early, which might explain the delay in www.sota.com etc being linked by the DNS, while the direct IP address worked fine.

Hopefully the SOTA site is simply a launch pad to a better site (countdown maybe?), because if I have to look at those dumb shining stars for the next 4 months I'm gonna go crazy. Unless one of the AIs' hacks the SOTA stuff, I can't imagine it being update with much more than some info on the Transmission Log, and being used as a summary page. Most likely the Transmission Log/Countdown Page will be used for some puzzels as well as the halo 3 servers.

Yeah, I'm betting SOTA will be to this what the blogspot was for ILB. Which is good, because someone will need to keep summarizing this mess. Smile

For people who are still catching up or are interested, here is just some of the same information congregated and my updater script, which has all of the sota page cached.

The time is what'll make it obvious if this is a fake or not. Someone should go through the logs and see what time the .63 and .65 sites were discovered, and the subsequent discovery of the avery fane sites.

EDIT: Alright well here you go.

Per the post logs on this site,

.65 was first heard of at around 9:13 P.M.

.63 was first heard of at around 9:54 P.M.

Avery Fane's MySpace post was first found at around 10:23 P.M.

All times are CST.

It's tight, but it is possible.

Honestly, at this point I could see this going either way, so I'm not going to speculate any further. It only took a day for the other hoaxes to be debunked (if not less) so the truth of the matter should come out in the wash by no later then tomorrow afternoon. For now, I am going to focus my keen eye on .63, .65, and halo3.com. I'm not one to waste time going out on a limb.

Heh, strike that... I just remember, I drove 300 miles across state in '04 to answer the only payphone axion in AK during ILB, only to find some 14 year old local boy that lived up the street already camping it. Oh well, it was a nice day for a drive anyhow.

then again, the web design quality of SOTA is fairly reminiscent of ilovebees.com... /me would love to see SOTA get 'hacked' by ARCI Laughing

ziot - nice file checker... I'm adding it to the wiki Wink

SOTA is definitely canon... I'm pretty sure no one is debating that at this point.

Just noticed the following on http://www.averyfane.com/details.html

B91 W78 H99 HA58 NE39 SH43 SL60 IN85/81

Does that string mean anything to anyone?

I'm guessing they're tailoring measurements (back, waist, shoulders, etc.)

I heard someone talking about a PDF. Does anyone have a copy of this application or whatever?

The application is at

http://206.16.223.63/sota_images/SOTA_membership.pdf

It's been noted that you can't use the email address as mentioned in the pdf. Oh, and I guess we should keep our ears peeled for SOTA radio advertisements.

I'll see if I can find a video that has a clear shot of this Avery guy so we can get an approximate estimate on height.

on edit, it looks like it could be his measurements, his height is posted as 176 (just shy of 6 foot), and his IN (inseam) is about 3 foot, which is proportional to his height. so measurements sound right.

to notgordian: no need to find video, its listed on his site as 176 CM.

Didn't see this mentioned before, but there's an interesting "spelling error" on the SOTA evidence page. (It's probably in the main thread somewhere, I know)

Notice the shape. The Round nature with counterpoints seems to bee an ancient theme.

And froschkonig, thank GOODNESS. I'm not sure I could stand watching Densha Otoko DX one more time. >___<

looks to me like his measurements, in metric apparently. I did a partial string search, and came up with a similar configuration on some japanese dating sites. It's either their equivalent of Height/Weight/Waist/Inseem, or it's an industry standard format for wardrobe measurements. Seeing how is a self proclaimed actor/model, I'm gonna go with the latter of the two.

Probably nothing.
