Anyone else gotten relay errors?

Has anyone else experienced this? Were these e-mails being accepted before last evening?

Sadly no. The email has been bouncing since it appeared.

Meaning of Grok

I found that grok which came from the membership on the SOTA site means:
Grok means to understand so thoroughly that the observer becomes part of the observed - to merge, blend, intermarry, lose identity in group experience.
Sounds like the Flood mindset to me, or at least Gravemind.

Yeah, "grok" is from the Heinlein novel, Stranger in a Strange Land. It's use is pretty limited to sci-fi fandom. Trekkies back in the 70's used to wear buttons that said "I grok Spock".

I'd say the Flood connection is tenuous. Remember, don't wear "Halo blinders" in this experience. Not everything is going to be a direct reference to the elements from the games, enjoy the ARG for what it is. While there might be thematic connections, the chances of SotA having a connection to the Flood is very remote. (we went through the same thing with the varrao mites back during ILB)

Can I assume it is safe to go to bed now, that the countdown has served its purpose, we still waiting for the memberships to SOTA to open, because being a narcoleptic it is hard enough to keep your eyes open at the best of times Rolling Eyes

Africa

Hi guys, i'm new to this board and not sure if this was mentioned yet. But at the bottom of the evidence page on the society of the ancients website mentions eastern Africa, how our evolutionary brethren were there, and how that picture was from Tanzania. Also there's a link to an "alien" website which gives you numbers until the site's up. 001 012 034 053. I punched those into the longitude/latitude thing on mapquest and the location is in Uganda, about a mile from the Kenyan border. Also in eastern Africa. Not sure if this means anything or if i'm just losin it. What do you think?

Just a few notes on the tech related stuff:

An explanation for "550 relay not permitted" is at xrl.us/550err (links to microsoft knowledge base). If you want a summary, basically the server rejects the email because it doesn't like your computer, the IP, or something about you - sometimes caused because the server requires authentication.

Way back, when someone mentioned that websites on an ISP are usually "myisp.com/~JoeBlow", that's actually the case for most all servers in a default configuration. Obviously, myisp.com is the domain name. The ~blahblah part is a user on the server's personal webspace - so I would be "example.com/~redct" if my username was redct. The tilde (~) is from the Unix/Linux convention of having the the user home directory be "~". If you're on a Linux box (or anything unix, including mac os x), you can see at the command line by typing "cd ~". You'll be in your home folder.

Um, Holy shit
I just got some key and logged in to server 5?

"

Key Received

4 more keys are required before this server's content is available.

For your participation in unlocking this Forerunner database you will be rewarded. More information will be sent to you soon."

I went to the one site, it had some sound sample and gave me a key... what the heck is that all about?!

Ok, this is what happened.

I went to http://206.16.223.65/

it gave me some login that linked to msgames.microsoft.com
or something similar.

had me log in with my hotmail account. After that it gave me the above message. Before that though the transmission site gave me some weird ass sound file and a key. Which when I entered it it gave me the 4 more keys needed message.
