Thanks for the link! The book's voice is really creepy. I haven't found the key yet - not that I have spend too much time looking for it ... Confused More pictures, anyone?

Just received this goodbye email from June:

Quote:
From: June Haversham
Date: Aug 6, 2007
Subject: a goodbye
To: Janet

Hi Janet! It's been a whirlwind since I started here. I met Bridget (!!) and she's lovely (is she always tipsy?) Thanks for the present of Pride and Prejudice, I see what you mean! the real Mr Darcy popped in to say hi and thanks for saving literature and I really couldn't tell the difference Smile

I do miss Hodder and everyone there. Say hi to Julie and of course to Jasper. But I especially miss all the friends I made through the spidernet (I can't help using Miss Havisham's name for it now). It's impossible now I'm properly fictional to keep in touch but after all the drama in Swindon I did want and mean to let everyone know what had happened. Could you log into my old email (password is thursday) and find the right people to forward this to?

Thank you!

Hello Ffordian Friends

I must start by saying sorry for how brief this is and how I have not been in touch. I passed my assessment (yay!) and was shunted into the backdrop of another publishers, fictional this time (can you guess which one?) Swindon is a distant memory now that I am capitalised, like another country. But I still remember you all fondly as the best friends a generic publishing assistant ever had. I don't have much time to fill you in - we don't get lunchbreaks here due to narrativea ssumption - so - very quickly...

There's a lovely account by Pineapple (not her real name) of what happened in Swindon on her website. The address is http://www.simplypineapple.co.uk/swindon/. There's not much more I can add to it, although if anyone took photographs, it'd be great if you flickr'd them on myf's page here: http://tinyurl.com/2bh2as.

Amy popped in with Miss Havisham to say a final hi and bye. She said to say she'd gotten hold of a bit of a recording of what came over the radios at the end and has posted it in her youtube. I asked her how she'd gotten hold of it and Miss Havisham glared at me and said not to ask such silly questions.

Jasper Fictional Fforde (that's why he had the extra F!) has been re-imprisoned on page 49 of the Real Jasper's copy of Treasure Island. I hear he's quite happy now, the weather's warm enough for him to wear his pantaloons and he's busy writing sea shanties for all the pirates. Text Grand Central is bracing itself for a mutiny of said pirates out of the book any time soon.

If you read First Among Sequels, you'll have seen that The Great Samuel Pepys Fiasco (the fictional version) was erased. No wonder it was so desperate to break out. The real version (don't worry, my head hurts too if I try to make too much sense of it) has been tamed and placed online inside the competition site library. Although the password-lock didn't hold so it was just stuffed insidethewigwamandthewarpath.blogspot.com. It's quite tame now. Probably because it has all your wonderful scribbled words inside to keep it company.

Janet put up the competition winners (well done!) on unique-thinking. I only wish you could all have won. You were all great and though I never met many of you I miss you all. I'll try and pop into the background of the Next book by the real Jasper and wave a big hello.

Yours - but not goodbye!
June Haversham

Got a nice little postcard from Jasper yesterday (in an envelope.. very odd putting a postcard in an envelope but what the hey)

It says "Thanks for saving literature - Jasper - July 2007" which was nice, there were some numbers on the envelope and on the postcard, they could be issue numbers though (but why handwrite issue numbers ?)

Anyone else get one??

Oh and mine had a picture of a Juristech Narrative Proximity Device on the front...

Mr Fforde enjoys making postcards and other little trinkets. Sometimes they get auctioned off for charity and things. They are quite collectable, I think. There's some blurb about his give-aways here.

I did indeed get a narrative proximity device card, signed as yours is. My surprise pressie came in a Jiffy bag - as well as the postcard I got a signed proof of First Among Sequels, with a message thanking me for trekking around after those books. I was bouncing round the house after I opened it all Very Happy

So I'd like to say a huge thank you to JF and everyone else who was involved - the whole thing was interesting, tiring, infuriating, educational and, most of all, great fun Worshippy

Just wanted to join in the general thank-you-all - I had so much fun, even though I couldn't participate with my physical self. Please don't forget to upload your Swindon fotos to myf's Flickr album (thank you, myf, for adding the new pictures of your Ffordian fun goodies!).

I didn't get anything. But then, I think that might be because I put my old address and then moved out. Hmph. Sad

I know I haven't uploaded all my photos yet. My boyfriend still has them on his computer. One day I'll do it, I promise! Smile

Hello all!

Yes, I know these are rather belated...

Technically I have more somewhere, but can I find what the boyfriend has done with them? No. Typical.

If I ever do locate them, I'll make sure I get them up here for you all to see.

Couldn't figure out how to upload to the photo stream, so I put them here:
