I invite inquiring minds to talk about the decision-making system in the delta works flood protection system in The Netherlands. It is a completely automated defense mechanism that closes a huge flood gate to the port of Rotterdam. No human intervention is possible. Huge machine has its finger on a hairline trigger. Perhaps some parallels can be drawn.

Maybe the time has become fast due to us solving all the clues ahead of time.

I just can't wait until the end of the countdown. I hope that the outcome is not underwhelming and that some large piece of information is given.

The countdown just broke down to 000 032 0** *** from 001 000 000 000

And at the speed it's going, it looks like it will be finished in no time.

EDIT: And the countdown is SKIPPING numbers.

EDIT EDIT: It's already at 26. This countdown isn't going to finish when people expected it would.

see this explanation on the first page of this thread...

other than being a little faster now as predicted, it's still counting down by single digits with the correct starting value to tomorrow midnight, and reaching zero likely at tonight midnight.

Um, sometimes if you leave the applet running, it just runs off of your system clock, which for many is a little faster than the server clock for the countdown site. Empty your cache and refresh your browser to get the server side clock for the countdown. I am pretty sure you will see that it has not counted down that much yet.

I'm actually of the mind now that it could very well be intentional. If they want to preserve the notion that it's supposed to be counting down to the solstice, it'll always load with a starting value to reach tomorrow midnight - in essence why would AR being counting down to tonight? It thinks it's counting down to tomorrow night. So the effect is the important thing - it's counting down too fast because AR's been hacked (of course, this we already know). So I think something will be happening tonight, and the so called "24 hour window" is irrelevent.

Refreshing the page consistently to see the countdown go 'back up' kind of breaks the illusion, but there isn't really a way around that to retain the parameters for the reason of the speedy countdown...

/me plans to view the page at 11:30 and watch 24 hours tick away in 30 minutes Smile

I just hope the outcome is not the destruction of the known universe. ( I like to aim low on a weekday).

I guess if the universe will get destroyed, a good steak for dinner is in order. Last meal and all. Razz

But really, I am wondering what the countdown ending will bring about. Unlocking server 1 on the halo3 site? Could each locked server be a little piece of ARs legacy?

I don't see why not. We think of Halo3.com as a "big" site, but the actual server space for a site is a SMALL space indeed; AR could just write himself or his legacy to a single 3.5" HDD! Certainly a small space for an AI. Or perhaps SOTA will receive the gift?

Considering this, I doubt if the Zune will contain his legacy. So far the game has been internet-centric and I believe it will remain that way.
