[SPEC] "Iris" is AR's attacker

So, I was chatting with my friend, Shiroyousei, on gmail about Iris and Adjutant Reflex and whatnot, and she came up with a rather interesting theory:

Quote:
Maybe Iris is the thing that hacked Adjutant. Didn't the trasmssion log say Iris had been fully transfered somewhere around the same time AR stopped fighting whatever was attacking him? Could it be Iris was trasfered to him as a virus of some sort? Irus might be the "Older Life" that was metioned earlier.

[By "Stopped Fighting", she means when Adjutant said his "Security measures were being tested" She hasn't been following the game as closeley as the rest of us, you see Wink]

Anyhow, I thought this made quite a bit of sense. Any thoughts?

UPDATE: Another thought. Jeez, she's making more progress than me XD

Quote:
Wait! Another thought! When AR was talking about that older life form, he said "He plays with time even as he hides in its folds." Could that thing be messing with time by use of the clock?

Illy's reply:
Quote:
The thing is, Iris is a girl's name (And AR says *He* plays with time even as he hides in its folds")... So either Iris infected the computers, or she didn't XD

edit: made the subject a little less ambiguous -thebruce

interesting thought... not much to go on until more happens... the question remains then, where did Iris come from, and what exactly IS Iris?

I believe that the underlying question here is whether or not there will be a central posting entity at the b.net forums. It's been openly stated that we will be guided by an 'unknown' hand (punctuation from the article, implying we DO know the entity that will be the guiding force) but whether or not we have any further explicit first-party postings will probably answer that question.

I believe that AR has interacted with multiple unseen entities thus far. One entity/group it was compelled to resist; the more powerful one took it offline. I think these are different because you don't launch a slow attack against something that acknowledges lower rank than yourself. Also AR uses the term 'us', in relation to his position. Since it is unlikely that he is referring to humans on Earth, we can only presume other entities.

I think it is, as this thread suggests, unlikely that the Gravemind is attacker. In fact, it is explicitly impossible because AR says his motives are oblique, and alliances opaque. But there is no finesse in the Gravemind's actions; he wants to consume all live and bring it to himself. So far he has acted only in self-preservation; hardly oblique motives. So unless AR is transcendentally idiotic, he wasn't taken down by the Gravemind.

If I had to make my own guess, I would say that AR was the agent (or a member of the agency) responsible for pushing humankind in the right direction as we have seen in the halo.com comic, and that attacks have occurred which necessitate the intervention of a more powerful being or construct. This would fit in with the idea of the AR as a POST operation, a sort of monitoring underling. I do not believe that AR's attacker was Iris, but the entity with which we communicate next may very well be.

My apologies on the length.

Click on thebruce's profile there, view his posts and wind the clock back to '04, and find any conversation he had with Phaedra. If you can beat that, THEN you can apologize for length.

Oh, and that's good spec fwiw.

Meh. You should see some of the posts I have on the VMK forums. For some reason, Disney MMOs seem to inspire my philosophical side. Especially when other people complain about said MMO XD

Anyhow...

@phyltre:I sent your counterpoint to the originator of this theory (Wow. For some reason or another, that was really hard to word correctly XD) Along with a link to this thread, so she can watch for replies herself. Hope you don't mind Wink

I might be mistaken, but it appears that AdjutantReflex has been decommissioned on the bnet forums. His name is no longer yellow (although his group and previous statements still are.) I guess we should take it as a hint that he's good and dead, at least for the time being?

edit: Also, the group which AR was a member of appears to have grown significantly, from 12 members to 120, unless I misread. Sounds like a "small space" if you ask me, but you need to be approved by the group to join it. I've tried joining but perhaps now I'll try a bit harder?

You do know that those discussions were what brought a lot of people into ILB?

Really?! Wow, I generally avoid the VMK section on the WDWMagic forums like the plague. Its just a mob of over-caffeinated 10 year olds screaming "CAN I HAV CODEZ PLZ!!!!!!1"

/sorry OT
