Allow me a second to throw out some insane specs about AR.

Perhaps AR is a sub-routine of Cortana, which she sent to Earth as a warning. However Gravemind has fully breached her security and thus found out about the warning, and pursued.

Add to this that the flood assimilated Captain Keyes in H1, whom was in fact Cortana's commanding officer on the Pillar of Autumn. Is it possible that Keyes had knowledge of how to breach/destroy Cortana in the event that the Covies were inevitably going to obtain her? and thus Gravemind now has the same knowledge.

Dunno, about AR coming from Cortana, but I am starting to think that AR is just some sub-routine and belongs to a bigger "process". AR's naming convention doesn't neatly fit with forerunner AIs (no exponent of 7 before the name), it doesn't speak like a religous zealot so prob not Covenant. The part about this other process "out ranking" him could kind of indicate his is UNSC, but it's still open at this point.

Perhaps this other process is a remanant of some opposing forerunner faction that wasn't exactly down with lighting up all the halos back in the day?

UNSC hasn't been invented yet.

Beat me to it. This would have to be, by my reckoning, some sort of Covenant/Forerunner AI. I'm really interested to see if it plays out to be something on/in The Ark.

I posited a similar idea on the HBO irc server, though I didn't press it.

Has anyone uploaded all the images preloaded on the Zune so that we can all take a gander?

As well, Bungie is known for putting wacky acronyms on boxes and manuals; it would behoove any Halo Zune owner to go over *everything* with a fine tooth comb.

the clue might be hiding on every Halo Zune, not just one.

I'm gonna say AR isn't talking about Gravemind here. It doesn't make sense to me, especially considering this line..

He outranks me and anyway, is stronger.

It seems to me that whatever has seemingly attacked AR is another Forerunner AI. If AR is just in charge of the array, I'd say this new AI might have more to do with Ark operations or something..any position that puts him/her/it above AR.

Possibly wishful thinking, but, it seems that AR's mention of another, came about suspiciously close to our hypothesis that there were more than one entity attempting contact with us.

Could it be that it is monitoring our various postulations, and upon seeing the semblance of an idea that hits upon what it(AR) is trying to convey to us it confirms this ever so slightly? Maybe AR itself is under constant scrutiny by something else, and has been warned not to be obvious in its messages, but duplicitously manipulating us enough to come to a conclusion it(AR or whatever else) wants us to reach?

A re-interpretation of the Prime Directive anyone?

Something that I just thought of:

AR said he or whoever is replacing him is going to try something smaller, right?

Well, AR joined a group on the Bnet forums made by Lukems-a bungie employee- and there are very few members in this group. Maybe this smaller forum is where he is going to continue to communicate

prime directive

makes sense if a far advanced race is trying to use our own forms of communication that it would have to make us slowly ease into the knowledge, but that is assuming it wants us to know something, could it also be that the sentience or whatever AR is actually is trying to warn a few people out in the physical realm of the repercussions that would follow by the actions of the "other" in their digital realm, yet again i seemed ot have fallen to a rant.

just wanted to set the stage for the possibility of a kind program trying to warn us of something, and if it was think, it is still a machine so it wouldn't say it in a heartfelt manner of "hey!, dumb earthlings here is waz goin down!", to it it would be another process set forth to protect current sentient life in the immediate area of the the "place name of artifact here" (we are stickin with the Ark right?)

sorry for long post, but you have to think, maybe this makes sense from a machine standpoint...

Now if it only made sense from a grammatical standpoint. ....Smile

I'm going to have to second this. Why respond just to ridicule someone?

As for your original theory silent13, I think at this point everyone is keeping an open mind. I don't think anyone has decided that the AR is either good or bad.

For the sake of argument, a better and clearly stated argument will always win. I agree with his statement, but I think it would be better stated with a little grammatical correction. Yes, I am witty, but I mean no harm.

good point

one of the things i dislike about ARGs that are exciting have terribly LONG periods of wait, which can be brutal on the psyche

they are machines, and like beyond good and evil there really is no right and wrong, especially from the utilitarian view of a machine

darn it, where are the signs!!! Stupid lazy flame keepers!!!

I don't particularly like pointing out grammatical errors on internet forums, but in Grifter_7's defence, that post was really hard to read. Again, no insult intended.

Nothing wrong with stream of thought. I do the same thing. Just go back when you're done, and add in a few periods so that we know when to take a breath. Smile You're doing great silent! Keep up the great ideas.
