Ok, I was in class for 3 hours, so I may have missed something, but when did we find out the new entities name was Cronus?

We didn't.

I'm just calling it that until it gives itself a name to keep it separate from Adjutant Reflex when I think about it.

Cortana Letters the original Halo ARG
Shadowkiller wrote:
I am wondering if they are trying to tie in the original Cortana letters with this ARG. The original letters didn't seem very friendly then, and they had to come from somewhere. Just an idea, but probably wrong.
I've been thinking the same thing since this started. And I'm also expecting Halo 3 to tie back in with the Marathon story, as well. This would be an incredible way to acknowledge their long time fanbase.
For anyone that doesn't know, the 'Cortana Letters' were a series of 5 emails that were sent to the guy that runs bungie.org, the biggest Bungie fansite, by Bungie themselves between February and July of 1999. This was sort of a mini-ARG without any goals, just lots of speculation. It all led up to the first unveiling of Halo, which up until then was known only by the project name: 'BLAM!'
The Marathon games were all about AIs and rampancy, and these letters were being sent by a mysterious new AI that called itself Cortana. We all now know who this is, but if you go back and read here cryptic messages, you'll see some amazing similarities between her writings and Adjutant Reflex. Go here to check it out the archived letters:

Scroll to the bottom on the left column and look for 'Cortana Letters' to read them all.

i hope the halo 3 trailer's ending line is a reference to the cortana letters.
and the SOTA site's source code for it's members page also features a link to an Aaron Elliot, i'm guessing this is a reference to the poet Eliot in the cortana letters

As far as I can tell, the blue symbol is a mirror image of the japanese hiragana "te" (て ) which interestingly enough can mean "hand" (although if they intended that I'm sure they would have used the kanji 手 which looks cooler)

I have found it!
The Co-ordinates led me to it, but i kind of fell out the hunt over the last few days because i was reserching Oldupai/Olduvai Gorge - and the geology and teh reflection/rotation theories; But the one thing that was consistent in it all was the the Maassai tribes.
The letter is a maasai letter.
In the Link is a demonstration of the language and letters, If you look at the page i link you to (specifically) look at the verb structure examples and the letter/shape is there. I think it may be a Y or an plural-S. but that is purely my own conjecture.

Bring it on! Campermans' back in the game!
Do you think we will get a message written in maasai based on this?

But it would also be more recognizable as being an Earth language, wouldn't it?

That could very well be the case. The background audio in Halo 2's Mombasa levels had some dialog in Swahili, so I could see this ARG including maasai especially since the Kenya/Tanzania border features so prominently in the clues.
-- Steve wishes he could do more to uncover the significance.

Maybe it's just a "J"? In Ghosts of Onyx , didn't Halsey take an AI named Jerrod into that ark? Perhaps it's a reference to that.
