Remember the one person who put the glyph on the Stonehenge? It fit perfectly, and one of the arms pointed to summer solstice which was today.
Anyway, the arm with the circle is pointing North on the Stonehenge map. Just thought I would point that out.

I love how the glyph rests perfectly on the border of whatever media player you were using, just barely offscreen XD

Do you really think they had it all planned all the way back then?
If they did then, wow, Bungie does not mess around.

incase you didn't see my edit
Quote:
EDIT: The area inside the circle (specifically the four stars that are somewhat in a circle/hexagon are the ones that really match...)
also:
picture 1 (about 50% opacity for each)
picture 2 (just the ad)
picture 3 (mostly starimage1)

I'd gone to an astronomy forum shortly after the Starry Night ad aired, asking the experts there if any of them recognized the night sky shown in it. None of them did. So, even if the stars in that sky and the ones around the glyph do match, it brings us no closer to identifying what part of space we're looking at.
EDIT: Here's the astronomy thread I mentioned.
DOUBLE EDIT: To avoid being a total killjoy, I'll say that most theories about that scene held that it either showed two generic children on Earth, or a young Master Chief and his Spartan companion on the planet Reach. So if any astronomy experts want to try identifying the sky from that star system (Epsilon Eridani? Is that a real star?), feel free -- Celestia's a great free program for doing so. I think it's a dead end, however...

Should we be trying to match this map with Polaris?

An interesting theory a friend of mine came up with:
Quote:
perhaps the glyph's a symbol or hope, or resistance to whatever force we're up against. If this were true, the stars could indeed be a map, but the glyph might stand for the area where these virtuous beings hid. If I'm not mistaken (I looked up a few things on Wikipedia), the last Halo ARG (I Love Bees) ended with our location being discovered by the Covenant (they're the antagonists, I assume?). That image could be their map to us. This would, of course, mean that the 2 ARG's are somehow connected, which is unlikely, but it's just an idea.
I'm unsure about it being a "Symbol of hope" XD... but the rest of it seems rather plausible.

significance of the sky if it were to actually be the sky from the ad, it would be significant as that would be the sky above the ark... (now why THIS would matter, i don't know!)

Which would make it an African sky...

not nessesarily, because again, it could be just one of chief's flashbacks. to Eridanus or Reach.

You're assuming this is a part of the sky in the southern hemisphere?
I could go outside and have a look...

I redid Minasodaboy's pic with a better source of the starry night ad. 4 or 5 stars do match up, but it took a lot of resizing, tilting, etc. I suppose you can make any sky match any other with enough "adjusting". It was a great idea!! But I just don't think is gonna help us out much.

i totally agree with your skepticism! The two things going for it though are:
1) the image has to be resized so the star sizes match up.
2) the rotation (30 degrees for mine) makes the extended line of the glyph "perfectly" level.
(still i think my theory is probably total crap.)
