[SPEC]bacteria theory

This is an image of what i think is bacteria from the former countdown page:

This is a brief image from the Server 5 video of the same "bacteria":

the bacteria in these two images resembles the Marburg Virus, which is accociated with tunnels in Mount Elgon. Mount Elgon is what was found when you plugged in the coordinates that made up the halted countdown. my theory is this: the forerunners picked up this disease while in Africa. It killed their race and mutated into what we now know as the Flood. i could be dead wrong, but there you go. Smile

Re: [SPEC]bacteria theory

I seriously doubt that a hemorrhagic fever like Marburg could "mutate" into a zombiefying plague like the Flood. If they were based on any kind of more familiar disease, it'd probably be something like a fungus or parasite.

That's a really interesting theory, although we shouldn't jump to conclusions - but thanks for the info. The bacteria actually just reminded me of the Bungie Logo that played at the start of Halo 2...

I think it's a good theory, but I think the Flood was created by the Forerunners.

I believe the flood were created and contained on the Halos for research. I think Guilty Spark says it during Halo: CE, don't quote me on that.

BoogiePop, it's revealed in Halo 2 that the halos were created by the Forerunners as an end-all weapon to destroy all life (hence the mention in the server 05 video of it being a suicidal plot), thus depriving the Flood of their hosts. They believed that no life at all was better than the Flood winning. It's been a while since I played it, but that's how I remember it going.

Unless you've got facts to back it up, never state something as the truth.

Actually, that was first revealed in Halo 1. Y'know, in the
Spoiler (Rollover to View):
cutscene at the opening of Two Betrayals?

Did you play Halo 1, Tonamel?

And regarding the nature of the Flood, they're commonly referred to as parasites in-game. They also seem to have spores, like fungi.

this is correct, the Halos wipe out all life large enough to sustain a flood-parasite.

Well the topic at hand is where the flood came from, not the measures at which they were willing to kill them. As of now I have no idea where the flood came from as I can't find any information. I could have sworn it was revealed that the Forerunners created the Flood, but that could just be me mixing sources with previous speculations.

I admit it. I haven't Embarassed

I should sometime. My roommate's got it, no reason not to, really. And if I plan on following this, that's actually a reason to do it.

Ok time for some wild spec from myself but here goes.

We are going to get detailed information about the origin of the flood, maybe the forerunners were close to finding a cure or more likely a way to directly affect the flood from the firing of the halos,

Maybe the study of the flood over the last 100,000 years yielded some results but there has been no one to act on the information, until now.

Maybe us feeble humans are being asked to lay the ground work so that when MC comes to push the button in Halo 3 instead of wiping out humanity and the covenant races, it the flood that gets killed.

Like I said slightly wild spec

Here's an idea, because I haven't seen it floated around before. We don't really know the biological design of the Flood, but we do know that they "infect" hosts. They take control and sort of re-animate bodies, as they use them to reproduce. What if it's a combined micro-to-macro structure? As players of the game, we see the larger physical Flood, but they operate at a cellular level like micro-organisms in order to facilitate the process.
