 		Heh, this is really hard. I've never been very good at picking up what a voice is saying is there is something within the immediate frequency or very high or low... Just how my ears work - the ears of an Audio Student... Hehe. I can hear it if I read it - and i'm working on chopping out all the really high pitch stuff. In your project, try cutting down or turning off 1000hz and stuff... I'll edit if I can get a cleaner one...

Guys, I appreciate the tenacity with which you are approaching the ARG, but frankly you are wasting your time on this particular reverse-speech venture. Why? Because there is absolutely no real science involved in the "reverse-speech" phenomena that people love to look for - taking the whole spiritual question out of it (i.e., people claiming that Satan talks to you through backwards rock-and-roll Twisted Evil ), there is no reliable way to construct normal and useful FORWARDS sentences that ALSO construct normal and useful BACKWARDS sentences. The message we're supposed to get from the deep voice is in the FORWARD speech...

...unless Bungie has somehow discovered a reliable and useful way to encode useful messages as backwards speech, in which case they would be selling that method to the highest bidder (my employer would certainly be interested) rather than using it in a silly ARG. Very Happy

My suggestion: don't waste your time on this particular bunny trail any longer.

Now that I'm thinking "space shuttle," to me the image looks more like a far-away view of the Shuttle taking off from the launch pad (attached to the big orange fuel tank but missing the 2 solid-rocket boosters on the sides). Smile

Too much noise in the image to tell what we're seeing here - if I think "alien head" then I immediately see two eyes and a weird slit nose. Hopefully they'll provide us with more obvious clues as to what we're supposed to be seeing here.

Oh, Bungie has done backward masking before; in the first Halo game it's how they rendered the dialog of the Elites in-game (reversed dialog from the Human sergeant and put it through a filter), and in the second game an entire poem was backward-masked into the soundtrack as an easter egg. (And a puzzle. One that hasn't been entirely solved yet, I might add.)

No, it doesn't immediately make us want to head on down to the lobby and get ourselves some snacks Wink but Bungie has inserted reversed audio into games and puzzles before.

Yeah, I know what you're saying, but I have this nagging feeling I've seen that photo before; astronaut on the left, low shot of the tail centre, and the Earthscape to the right. A spacewalk in the cargo bay while the Shuttle was "on its side" instead of "head down". I just can't find that particular shot again...

-- Steve did a search in NASA's photo database, but it popped up 700+ pages of results. Confused Got some digging to do...

 		hey guys.

after a 3 hour nap.i went back working on this.
at one point, im starting to hear the name tabitha after the space shuttle part. im not sure, ill upload my work so far, in a few hours.

 		I cleaned up the audio a bunch. This makes it pretty clear the last line is
"perhaps through other's eyes"

Also, there isn't anything hidden backwards. At all. Anything you hear is only a coincidence. Even the spoken word wasn't meant to be difficult, it just was because they had two people read it and merged them.

To clean it, I split the channels, inverted one, and remixed it as a mono. Then I used the equalizer and noise removal to remove most of the echo. Then a little amplification.

Please let me know if this is helpful. I'm new to the community so I don't want to break any unwritten rules.

 		Yeah, good stuff everyone.

There's a burst of static at the end of the orignial .mp3, at 42-43 sec.

I slowed it down, and there is something there - it seems to change pitch.

Has anyone more experienced looked at this burst of "static"?

New idea Anton! If you're still searching through the NASA pics, try looking for a panoramic view of the shuttle. Since the frame that you selected seems to be part of a sequence where the image seems to be moving back and forth, perhaps it is a static panoramic picture that they moved the camera back and forth over, thus creating the blurry movement. This might allow us to find a picture with a better Earth scape. I would offer to help out with this search, but I will be tied up for the next two days. I'll try to search when I can though. Happy hunting.

 		This is brilliant. You've done an amazing job guys.

But this changes everything. Where once we thought we were hearing "Perhaps there are others of us you will find you will be able to save us all", but now "Perhaps through others eyes you find you will be able to save us all"... that sounds like a huge clue. Through others eyes? Hm...

 		Somebody suggested earlier running it through a visualiser, the burst of static someone else mentioned reminds me of Year Zero.
