[SPEC] Chronology Speculation (Halo firing/Comic)

This just occurred to me thanks to one of the other forumgoes pointing it out.

The comic of what a lot of people have assumed is the Ark being built took place 100000 years ago according to the comic itself. We also have conclusive evidence (read:the log from the server and 343GS) that the halos were fired a little over 100000 years ago (somewhere around 10100 if I remember correctly).

Assuming that these dates are correct and no on has lied to us (for shame!) then there's some interesting little bits that we still don't know.

Clearly something survived the halos being fired, as evidenced by N'chala and the "Gods" that were constucting something. So did the Halos do their job?

If the Ark was indeed integrated into the 7 Halos, then we can assume that what's being built in the comic is NOT the Ark.

If these machines are Forerunners, then the Forerunners clearly survived the Halo's firing (Where are they now?!).

Am I missing anything?

It is most likely that the Ark on Earth was built before the firing. From the comic it looks like humans were sufficient to be infected by the Flood, so the Ark probably had a duel purpose of firing the Halos and saving the indigenous species on the Earth from that firing.

From the Halo books we know that humanity was found on other planets once humans started colonizing other planets. It is possible that the Forerunners seeded humans on other planets, likely saved by shield worlds like Onyx, to make sure that we survived.

Everyone keeps referring back to the halo novels and I haven't read any of them. Looks like I've got a good bit of reading to do this weekend.

The Ark wasn't necessarily built before or after the first firings. I'm speculating, but suppose that the first firings did not succeed, and the Forerunners built the Ark for the purpose of a failsafe?

I think the books portray Earth as the birthplace of humanity with people spreading to other parts of the galaxy once they had the proper technology, like advanced ship, cryostasis, and FTL travel.

I'm pretty sure that's false. The only time I've heard of "indigenous humanity" was in the Cortana letters, and that is generally considered non-canon, as they were written even before the first game was released.

My theory about timing: the Halos were fired 100,000 years before the events of the Halo games. Keep in mind that they take place more than 500 years hence. So, when the comic tells us (in 2007) that it is depicting Earth 100,000 years ago, that would still be ~500 years before the firing of the Halos. So the "Gods" shown are probably just Forerunner machinery constructing the Ark in preparation for any "last resort".

I still maintain that the Ark had to have been created thousands, if not millions, of years before the first firing of the Halos. If you have any questions about "reseeding" I refer you to this: http://carnage.bungie.org/haloforum/halo.forum.pl?read=791609 , which is a good read for any Halo fan. It also points out the big Noah's ark correlation:

Noah's Ark = Ark
Noah's Flood = Flood/Halo

Why would the Ark have been constructed so far ahead of time? I thought (though, not entirely sure) that the forerunner's awareness of the flood wasn't that long.

{ sorry for being a n00b Embarassed }

Besides, just think about it, why would the Flood still exist if the Forerunners didn't want it too? That's what containment is about, preserving the Flood.

and whether it's the real deal or not, there must be some truth in it.

If it is real, then it's not exactly polite to go around blabbing said information to people who are interested in not having the game spoiled for them...

I'm sorry, should I delete them, or spoiler tag the whole thing? Sad

Yes. Duh.

And that's assuming that you even have permission to spread any inside info in the first place.
