[TRAILHEAD?] Miyar's House
Myspaced based game

Checked myspace today & had a friend request from [url-http://www.myspace.com/miyars_house]Miyar's House[/url] checked into it & this is what I see:
Quote:
About me:
Welcome, welcome, to my House of Abandonment! I am Miyar, and I am just dying to see what you make of it.

Of course, I don't live here, but you're always free to take a look around. As you navigate my house you will come upon puzzles, riddles, and even other people trying to find their way through.

Perhaps you will solve the mystery; perhaps you will make it through.
Who I'd like to meet:
This game is played as a group, in that all players will work together to move on to the next level. Updates to the storyline will be posted in blogs. Every blog will end in a "problem" that must be solved to continue. You can either post an answer to the problem being posed, or offer a suggestion that you think might help someone figure it out.

and the first blog entry:
Quote:
September 29, 2007 - Saturday

1: WAKING UP

You open your eyes and jolt awake, in the driver's seat of a car you don't recognize. Your whole body is unfamiliar. You mentally scramble for an identity, and for a memory of why you're here.

You tilt the rearview mirror toward yourself and try to recognize your own face. Unfortunately, it brings nothing to your memory.

Well, if you can't remember who you are, this may well be your own car you're sitting in! Damn it, what is that thing police officers always ask people for?

You check the glove compartment for license and registration, but all that's there is a slip of paper that says:

"Those who go by ten alone,
have their future writ' in stone."

Damn it, what does that mean!? You decide to ignore it for the moment as you continue to look around for information on who you are.

If you would have gone somewhere, where would it have been? Frustrated and anxious, you attempt to yank open the car door, but it won't budge. You see another slip of paper stuck in the handle.

"Before you leave, you must look
for a copy of Miyar's least favorite book."

Looking around for a key to get out of the car, you see what's behind you. In the back seat of this van, two rows of seats have been removed, and in their place are piles and piles of books. Another slip of paper is taped to the back window, right above a small keyboard. A key sits in a locked container next to it. The slip reads:

"When you've found it, type it in
and your time in with Miyar will begin."

What do you type in?

My first guess is
Spoiler (Rollover to View):
Bible

Well. This looks rather intresting...*shoves glasses back up nose* First puzzle is pretty hard, though. What happens when you guess 'bible'?

I'll check it out when I can. I think you were supposed to post your answer as a comment, though. Since Red found it I think she should have first crack at it?

If there are piles of books in there, is there any way to investigate them? Perhaps that will give you a clue as to his least favorite.

well the two straightforward clues are clear which leaves the
Those who go by ten alone,
have their future writ' in stone

and I would have to agree with Red's guess, unless there's a copy of the

Torah
(I'm hoping I remember my RE correctly there.

P.S. Not to steal Red's thunder but for an explanation :
Spoiler (Rollover to View):
The ten alone is the ten commandments, hence writ in stone. My thinking is if they live by the ten alone they must be Jewish as don't follow other teachings (i.e. Jesus).?

AAHHH! Very good point! I think both of you should post. Maybe the PM is waiting for some activity. After all, he/she said it should be a group effort?

Well Miyar logged in, and has approved our comments, added more friends, and that seems to be it...

oh and she seems to be a year younger, I'm sure she was 18 before?

EDIT, the blog page has changed background, but can't spot anything else.

EDIT 2: rethinking the puzzle if the first clue indicates the religion, and we are looking for the LEAST favourite book, then we have been heading in the wrong direction, so I've submitted a new answer.

I said 'Book of the Dead' as their favorite book could easily The Bible, Torah or some other religious book. It's an ancient Egyptian book that is said to be cursed.

Speaking of rethinking....

I think I got caught up in the "flavour" of the text & finally saw what we were really looking for (of course, I've been wrong before) is:
Quote:
"When you've found it, type it in
and your time in with Miyar will begin."

IT is a book by Stephen King - one I loved, but know many people who really don't like it at all - plus the instructions in this line specifically say - Type it in.

so running on this line of thought, I left a comment saying "I type IT in"

Ooo IT, haven't read that one yet. *wikis IT*

Um HELLO, check this out.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/It_%28novel%29

"the power of a unified group" is noted on the wiki. Hmm methinks we have an idea.

Slightly spooky and great for an ARG near Halloween.
