[SPEC] Halo, the Forerunner & Adjutant Reflex
Huge post, lots of fiction spoilers

This will contain a bunch of Halo spoilers from the books, games and otherwise, but I think if you're a part of this ARG you're leaving yourself open to those things anyway. However, if you don't want pieces of the fiction spoiled for you, don't read ahead.

Okay. Rather than starting with theories about the recent events, I'm going to start back 100,000 years ago. This is going to be long.

---Story Start---

The Forerunners, with intelligence and technology far beyond our own and a civilization spanning the galaxy, get started on a new project to help their race. To create a weapon in an untold war, or in preperation for a future war maybe. But the end result was the same. They created the Flood. At first it was just a curiosity. Safely held at bay and able to be examined safely. But a cataclysmic accident lead to the release of the flood, and whole worlds fell quickly to it.

In an effort to fight it back, the Forerunners immediately turned their attention to trying to stop the Flood. They went through thousands of plans. Weapons, defenses, immunities. Each one of them unsuccessful. Quickly being pushed back further and losing more colonies to the now space-born Flood travelling the galaxy in search of food, and faced with quickly diminishing choices of action, they decided to build a weapon of last resort should the situation become too dire to handle.

With enough resources, technology and work power to do so, they created the Halo's. They were designed in mind with several purposes, but one overbearing, highly important one-the destruction of all life in the galaxy to stop the flood. However, believing that there was still another way, science facilities were constructed on the Halo's and stations around them for examination, to come up with a cure or some way to stop the Flood.

Places all around the galaxy began experiencing the same problems that started the whole catastrophe. The Flood broke loose. However, with quick thinking and plans ahead for just such a situation, the Flood was quickly bottled up and it's advancing on the Forerunners slowed to a halt. If even only temporarily. With the materials in place and the safety protocols, along with a practically unlimited force of Sentinels to hold back the tide, they continued to work against time. (This is the case on Halo 05, and explains the 100,000 years war. The Sentinels had been fighting the flood outbreak 100,000 years ago, only to have to fight it anew 100,000 years later.)

But it became apparent that after thousands of plans, attempts and trials to stop the Flood, it had all come down to their last resort weapon. Designed as they were to habitat life on the Halo's so that maybe one day they could return, it was not their intention to stay. With the protocols put in place to protect themselves from the Flood on the Halo's themselves already in disarray, a device was created to sustain their race in a time-loop out of harms way, so that after a time they might awaken and return to take back their flood-free home. These devices were scattered all around the galaxy and housed the most promising of the Forerunner. (Ghosts of Onyx.)

Using the remote activation and dooming millions of his race to die in but a split second, the Forerunner that activated the Halo's lived on, protected by the special-made ship that remotely activated the Halo's from space. The only thing left awake being the AI built into the ships systems.(Array_Recorder_Data)

The plan worked. Most life all through the galaxy was wiped out. The flood, with no food, quickly fell back. However, unknown to the Forerunners, a flood "Hive Mind" went into hibernation until a new food source could be discovered. (Halo 2, Gravemind.)

Time progressed, plants and animals protected on worlds of safe harbor continued to adapt and evolve. Each telling different stories passed down through generations, always growing and changing, of the great flood and the way a select few weathered the storm on the Ark. The Ark was not just a single spacecraft, world or device but a whole array of worlds used to house, contain, and protect survivors of the Flood.

The Forerunners had not gone out blindly, however. And left the tools of their intelligent in the hands of one race, on one planet in the far corner of the Galaxy. It was this one race they expected would rise up and reclaim the Galaxy once more, to release the Forerunner from their slumber to a safe, new world.

100,000 years later, however, the race of Reclaimers, Humanity, was faced with extinction at the hands of other races that had grown and developed on other haven worlds. The leaders of the Covenant, however, knew much more about the Forerunner than they let on to their people. Jealous of their gods Chosen Ones, they set out to destroy Humanity, and put themselves in a more powerful position than the gods chosen, so that god may see his mistake and give his power to those more deserving of it and lead them into a new beggining. (The Great Journey)

However, during their war, the Humans and the Covenant stumbled upon a Halo. Awestruck by its beauty and design, the Covenant set out to claim it as their own. While the surviving humans of a destroyed world saw it as a safe haven and a place for one last stand against the Covenant forces pitted against them. (Halo 1)

The moment that the human forces landed groundside, all hell broke loose and fighting took place all over the Halo. With one of their new super soldiers on side, and superior ground-force strategy over the Covenant, they were outnumbered but not outgunned. The Covenant, however, was just as interested in learning more about the device of their gods. The forces were given orders to protect it by any means necessary and to cleanse it of the human taint until the Prophets could arrive and conduct the ceremony to lead them all into gods arms.

However, in their curiosity, the Covenant discovered information about a weapons cache contained on the Halo itself. Setting out to claim this weapon that would surely doom humanity, they inevitably released the flood contained on the Halo. Immediately things were set in motion by the Halo's systems. Sentinels activated and set out to push back the flood. But the sheer ammount and concentration of Covenant and Human forces at the sight of the outbreak caused the flood to spread quicker than the sentinels could handle, and a safe perimiter for containment couldn't be made.

The Halo's monitor, however, spotted what appeared to be a powerful reclaimer and quickly bought him to the now flood-infested Library to activate the halo array before the flood could get out of control. The key was retrieved. But upon insertion into the Halo's systems, it was not activated as planned. However, it was enough to bring the other Halo's up to activation. Not armed, but activated. As well as breaking the Chryo-freeze on the entity that had activated the Halo's 100,000 years ago. Believing that the Reclaimer that he had entrusted had become corrupt, he set out to find another to take his place.

In the monitors search, however, he discovered the human ship, Pillar Of Autumn, and began to download all the data on the reclaimers. It was short lived, however, as the Halo was destroyed. At that moment, stopping the flood became a near impossibility as one large pocket of the galaxy had just been guranteed safety from the Halo's activation.

Meanwhile, the few surviving Covenant forces escaped Halo with more than enough data. Data that, contained within, included information about an Ark and its location. The prophet that was on his way to activate Halo quickly changed direction with this new information and a force of Covenant to activate the Halo's from this sacred Ark.

The surviving Human forces arrived back to Earth to celebrations at their success. They had lost many but proven that a Spartan could face up against a fleet of Covenant and come out on top. But it was short lived, as the Covenant arrived and immediately found humanity all over their gods sacred site. Fighting their way to the surface to the relative area that the Ark was meant to be, the Covenant was sorely disappointed at the lack of anything forerunner. Their losses were already great, and so, gathering up surviving forces from groundside, they fled in the direction of another set of coordinates. Another Halo.

As soon as the Covenant arrived, they set out to find the Key to activate this Halo. But it immediately went bad as grown forces attempted to get through the shield to their prize. All was quiet within the shield save for a few lone Sentinels that caused huge problems for the inexperienced Covenant ground troops. The Humans that followed them, however, found another way in, and immediately things went downhill. The Flood Hive-mind had been awoken by the monitor that he had captured 100,000 years ago as it reportednew arrivals on the Halo. The hibernating flood was released upon the helpless Covenant and Human ground forces. The Sentinels quickly activated, and the fighting once again started.

The moment the shields protecting the rest of the Halo from the flood was lowered. The flood immediately went to work commandeering whatever it could find. Led by the Gravemind, they immediately targetted the human ship docked above the Halo. Meanwhile, the Covenant, pushed forward by the death of a Prophet, retrieved the key and the humans that held it and returned to High Charity, quickly followed by Gravemind and an army of flood. High Charity fell. Gravemind arrived, but was too late to reach his prize.

The forerunner ship that had activated the Halo's remotely a hundred thousand years ago.

Meanwhile however, fighting was still taking place on Halo as Covenant forces from High Charity fled to escape the Flood and join the fight on Halo. The Covenant now spit in two by in-fighting. The Elites, seeing their allies turn on them, were quick to take up the fight against the enemy of their enemy. Halo 05 was mere seconds away from activation. The Array was bought online. The Halo's were armed and ready to fire. (End of Halo 2)

However. The Ark systems had been online for a few hundred years already. The Forerunner had put a safety system in place so that, after so many thousands of years, the device under the soil of the Reclaimers would awaken once more. The AI built into its systems working quickly to find a way to bring the word to the reclaimers hundreds of years before the 100,000 year anniversary of the great flood that destroyed the galaxy such a long time ago.

However, something else was watching and waiting for just that event. Adjutant Reflext as we knew the AI sent to warn us of the coming storm was destroyed by an entity unknown during its communications with the AI on the Forerunner spacecraft. However, it communicated enough that the Forerunner was released from its stasis, to send us its transmission.

---End Story---

Who do I believe destroyed AR? I am not sure. The possibilities are endless. It is possible that, Gravemind, having infected the Halo systems through 2401 Penitent Tangent so long ago may have access to some aspects of the system, and thus, destroyed AR ("Something that once was malevolent is stirring.") However I cannot think of anything else that would want to stop us getting the full story without time travel being some way involved. And I don't want to take that into consideration.

However, after careful consideration of the nature of the Ark on Earth, the way AR acted upon his arrival, and the Forerunner ship that was on High Charity, I believe there is a tie in the information. In Halo 2, Cortana commented how there was something fighting back when she tried to access the ships systems. I believe it was a Forerunner AI. That Forerunner AI was talking to AdjutantReflex about the Summer Solstice in order to get proper landing coordinates for the Ark. What malevolent being with knowledge of the Halo's that is around our time would have access and ability to do such a thing? Gravemind has shown the ability the overpower AI's in past. And possibly even Cortana herself.

I apologise for the huge length of this post, but I felt it was worth going into great detail with.
