I happen to be one of those people. Smile

HERE is this year's Lunar Calendar. So we're watching for either 6/30 or 7/1 depending how you interpret "beginning of lunar cycle".

It depends. Does that lunar calendar mean that the new moon will be the night of June 30, or the morning. If it's the evening, then I would guess that the first day of the lunar cycle would be July 1st.

since my emails bounced back yesterday, I believe that it will open on the first of the lunar cycle. I read somewhere that someone said it was the 12th, but according to the lunar calendar I say, that wouldn't work. According to this calendar the new moon is either the 30th or the 1st.

Okay, so I got off my duff and checked... (As opposed to the last time I posted in this thread where I didn't bother to find the link to the pdf.)

The new moon is on the 30th. The membership form indicates "The first day of the new lunar cycle". Which would make the 1st of July the first day of the next lunar cycle.

However, I would point out that the .pdf is not linked directly from the SOTA site. Unless I'm very much mistaken, and a quick search has not indicated that I am, we just sort of found that .pdf, through general snooping. So technically, it hasn't been officially revealed to us as far as I know yet. Which means that they may never use it, or that this next lunar cycle may not be the lunar cycle they're referring to.

I hope that it is though.

When you view the "members" page on the SOTA website, when you vie the page source code, you'll see a commented-out section (for the layman, the code won't activate) that lists the remainder of the URL to find the .pdf file.

Here's what the code looks like (just the extract with the pdf reference):
!--
a href="sota_images/SOTA_membership.pdf" target=new color="#00FF00">Click here to fill out the Membership application.
Membership Chairman – Aaron Elliot.
--

So if you put the "sota_images..." part after "www.societyoftheancients.com" you get the rest. Most of you already know this, I bet. Sorry.

EDIT: ack, it was interpreting the code as HTML... changing so you can see it

From what I understand the New Lunar Cycle begins with the New Moon, not the Full Moon.

The current cycle began on June 15th and begins again on July 14th.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Table_of_lunar_phases

Did anything happen on June 15th? I don't remember?

edit: CookTrain recalls AR stating that it has begun on June 14th
[i]Second edit: on the 21st Server 05 opens. The 22nd is the First Quarter of the Cycle. Next Quarter = Full Moon on the 30th, then Third Quarter on July 7th, followed by the New Moon (New Cycle) on the 14th.
