Take into consideration that New Mombassa had to be rebuilt, for it to be destroyed, and the Ark found.

New Mombasa was not built on the ashes of Old Mombasa, if that's what you're getting at. New Mombasa is just the 26th-century version of the city that sprang up after the space elevator was built. Old Mombasa still exists -- it's the slummy area you fight in before you cross the bridge. Well, not exactly slummy, but 21st-century office buildings certainly look shabby compared with skyscrapers from the future...

I may be looking at it the wrong way. From Halopedia's article on the Ark:

Quote:
In Halo 2 the Covenant ship carrying the Prophet of Regret jumped into Slipspace, for unknown reasons, just a few hundred meters above New Mombasa. This caused the destruction of New Mombasa, and unearthed a huge Forerunner artifact seen in the Halo 3 trailer. The Halo 3 Announcement Trailer depicts a huge structure firing a beam of white energy straight into the sky, through the center of swirling clouds.

So, what I was thinking was that The Ark was built UNDER New Mombasa. So maybe it would be better to say that New Mombassa had to be BUILT for it to be destroyed, and the Ark to be found.

who said the sentinels were building the Ark in the comic?

The comic states that "the gods were building their machines". Whether that means they were building the Ark or building a cover up for the ark remains to be seen.

This suck, I have to go camping all weekend, and I might miss something. Sad

No, I recall that the ruins of New/Old Mombasa were seen in the background of the start of the trailer. In the background before revealing the ark there was what appeared to be the left overs of the bridge that was destroyed early in Halo 2.

ARK?

in all practicallity, i believe the ark is immune to the halos as a means to same some life similiar to noah's ark

It would seem the Halos themselves are partially immune as well (Example - Gravemind).

And not to be too picky, Wouldn't the monitors qualify as sentient? I'm leading up to something - how floods would handle cyborgs? The inorganics portions would be immune, therefore, (not sure how to process this). Could provide some sort of insight on the logs, the meaning of life (in the poems), etc.

sen·tient
–adjective
1. having the power of perception by the senses; conscious.
2. characterized by sensation and consciousness.
–noun
3. a person or thing that is sentient.
4. Archaic. the conscious mind.

Hmmm, quite possibly the monitors could be sentient, but I think that is probably not the case since they are AI. But then again, Dcom mentions feeling no remorse so I could be wrong.

Did we ever figure out who or what Dcom is?

When I read D-Com I thought "Defense Communications"

Of course this IS Microsoft, so perhaps it stands for "Distributed Communications Object Model" Razz

Not necessarily. It's been confirmed that Gravemind is a Flood variant that forms when the Flood population reached a critical mass. It could have been wiped out in the original activation and the one we see in Halo 2 may be a new form. What would survive would be the Flood spore samples, which are neither sentient, not of sufficient size to be eradicated by the array. And since we also know that the Flood retain "genetic memory" it's not implausible to assume that a new Gravemind would be "birthed" with a great deal of knowledge and memory intact.

in terms of the cyborg mc, the machine suit responds to the man inside not the other way, as for gravemind, he is constructed of flood, halo doesnt kill flood. ai's, and other constructs are technically artificially sentient

I'm inclined to agree with URK on this too. One of the Stories in the Halo graphic novel actually shows this. As the flood take more elites on the ship they absorbed more and more tactical skill, leaving the surviving covenant to blow the ship up before it infected more.

 Did anyone notice?

On the final slide of www.halo.com/comic , the glyph that N'chala is painting to "tell the story" is the same as the image from the SOTA evidence files. Also it does mention that it is based 100,000 years ago. Around the time that the halo rings were fired. In the Cortana/Gravemind transmission from the first halo 3 trailer they say "perhaps through others eyes you may find how to save us all". I know that if I were to look through anyone's eyes, I'd like it to be a firsthand witness. Just a wild thought...

You can check the Gravemind bio at Halo3.com as well. Smile

Getting back to the original glyph topic, has anyone noticed that the O in the Halo title is a fairly similar shape to the glyphs presented thus far? The lower left quadrant is open and the left third is thinner, the dot in the middle is closed, and there is a small line extending to the right from both the dot and the outside of the circle. Since we seem to be seeing a kind of language composed of circles, lines, and closed/open dots, I think this might be relevant. Of course, it could just be an art direction, but I wouldn't put it past Bungie to have had something relevant to the Forerunner in the title graphic all along. For all we know the graph semantics were determined back in the original development days.

Phyltre to expand on your idea the glyphs could be a language. Perhaps the forerunner language. Just an Idea.

Yeah, that was kind of my suspicion. Actually, I was think a bit deeper though. In languages that evolve from pictographical characters, components of a "letter" tend to mean things. Anyone who has studied Chinese or Japanese kanji understands the principle--you can "decode" the meaning of a character by breaking it down into it's component brush strokes. I'm seeing sort of the same idea here--open/closed dots, open/closed circles, radiant lines, etc. It seems possible that the Forerunner glyph system might be decodable if we're given something similar to a Rosetta stone.
