The Elder Gods.
IE: Cthulhu's whiny siblings

(I'm sorry if this has been posted before. Also, forgive me for posting the same day I joined, I've lurked for quite a bit on this here forums.)

So, according to the GMs, this ARG is based off the Cthulhu mythos. The dream part is obvious, several references to Miskatonic (I keep forgeting how to spell it), one for Nyarlothep (sic).

So. Has the Blind Idiot God (Azeroth), the cloud freak with tentacles and a zipper for a mouth (Shub-Nuggerath [sic]), the Shoggoths, Star-Spawn, Pointy-Heads (okay, not realy Mythos) and other oddities appeared, or are we just scratching the surface?

So far (I've been out of the game for a few weeks, so I could be wrong), all we've seen is the watercoler with Cthulhu, and references to Yog-Sothoth and Chorazos.

Though I have a theory that one of the players might be Nyarlathotep, who delights in taking a human guise and messing with us mere mortals.

I will go on the record, and say that none of the men over at Sentry Outpost could be described as "joyous."

You're telling me you couldn't imagine, say, Exu typing with a poopoo-eating grin?

'Poopoo-eating grin' may just be the best phrase of the day.

Also, if your theory proves correct, it would be really damn cool.

The one of "Nyarlothep" was reported as "a huge mass of crickets". Hence "the creeping chaos". The other form was a hacker with no face calling himself "Mr. D". I know Wikipedia has a bunch of forms of the elder gods, I'll go check.

The woman's dream about the players running to the summit of a mountain away from something MIGHT be that one story... Mountains of Madness? I know on that one a team of Miskatonic guys go to Antarctica and find Penguin-eating Shoggoths on a mountain.

The shoggoths are basically big-ass amoeba, so if any characters shriek about a massive blob dissolving everything in its path, it can be a shoggoth. If anyone sees some sort of dinosaur/fish thingy with tentacles, it's Star-Spawn.

He's got a much bigger part in this whole thing than people are aware of, I'm sure of it. No PM with half a brain is going to introduce a character who says "Hey, I'm a wizard" and then after a bare handful of posts say "Okay, good luck with all that!", and have that be that. He's either the ringmaster behind The Most Batrachian Show On Earth, or he's going to be instrumental in trying to stop it.

My personal theory is that he's being set up for something bigger way down the line, maybe a few episodes in the future given the stated episodial nature of the ARG.

The Chorazos Cult is in, so what about the Creeping/Crawling Chaos's other cults? Look on Wikipedia, there are a bunch of cults of Nyarlothep.

Oh, him too. I doubt that "StuR" looks like "Hastur" by accident.

I just PMed Exu about this whole thing; if he responds, I'll let yez know.

EDIT: Exu needs to explain this shit here:

Quote:
Attend.

According to the practices of Council Conclave, this Unspeakable Edict is delivered as adjunct to the Agreement which already binds. It has been weighed and measured by our Conclave and enacted as a direct extension of the Agreement.

By Edict, from this day, no member of Council may discuss, archive, share or dissiminate materials regarding WoI via any electronic medium. No encryption, security measure or metaphoric code is ever sufficient to provide reason to violate this Edict. Making copies of Council documents or discussions of such, including this Edict, is specifically included and forbidden from electronic transfer of any kind.

Any discussion of WoI or storage of WoI must be limited entirely to the physical world, either through handwritten correspondence such as this Edict or in person as during Conclave. These mechanisms have protected us for centuries; hence, we will limit ourselves to these less corruptible processes. Any existing materials that you have authored and stored in electronic media that would violate this Edict must be de-published, deleted, destroyed and/or demagnitized within six months.

Conclave reminds you that a violation of Edict carries the same punishment as a direct violation of the Agreement. The harshest possible penalties available under your organization's charters are expected to be enacted against first-time violators. Organizations themselves will face direct punishment from Conclave if there are second violations.

With my own hand I set this down as the will of valid Conclave, to remain Edict for one generation unless Conclave takes further action.

Novus ordo mundi,

The Mouth of Conclave MXXXVIII
