Quote:
Can you feel it?
Beating at the heart of the Universe.
Skin too thick to be sure.
It's alive though.
I'm certain.
What do I do with life?
I think we can assume this is the entity that terminated AR. It still has his (her?) icon, and we have not received any information to the contrary, so let's start with that assumption.
Thoughts on the above:
"beating at the heart of the universe" is an interesting quote, if only because it references the cosmos as a whole. In almost all things Halo, galaxy is the scale of the game. Universe suggests larger, more fundamental scope.
This almost sounds like a God musing about what to do with the life that's sprung up in his sandbox.
To rose: Gravemind is a (or maybe the ) intelligence within the Flood. Of course, the Flood is what most consider to be the antithesis to life mentioned in the Server 05 video.
To me this sounds like either the AI is trying to figure out what to do with life that has sprung up since the last Halo firing, or something like that. Too little to tell, however.

Is there a way to verify whether this is real? Doesn't Bungie take it down if it isn't?
Well the username is exactly the same as the original poster(no capital i substituted for a lower case L) as can be seen by searching for all posts by Adjuntreflex on Bungie.net
Also, the colour of the text in the post and the user designation of CompoundIntelligence as opposed to member point to the account being special.
The only way this could be fake is if a rogue element in Bungie is having us on or the account has been hacked. Either way I think the forum admins would step in pretty quickly.

What is gravemind? Can you elaborate for those of us not in the know?
Gravemind is a flood form that is encountered in Halo 2. It looks like a giant plant(think little shop of horrors) and can speak. It seems to be a directing intelligence for the flood. See here , here or, indeed, here .

It seems like this might be a new AI. Or at least the second AI entity encountered got altered in some fundamental way, as it is speaking in a very contrasting way from before.
Either way, it is nice to have a concrete update, since we were left hanging on the clothes line in the backyard during a rainstorm for the past few days.

Thanks! I have to plead my ignorance of Halo2 - don't throw things! I know a lot about Halo -the flood totally creeps me out - but, I've never played Halo2 all the way through. I'm not a good console player, my son is, but I'm getting the PC port of Halo2. I'm looking forward to learning more about the forerunners as the game goes on.
I'm thinking that the flood gravemind wouldn't have any question of what to do with life - take it all over -seems to be there mantra.

Is it really that important if it's AR or some other AI? These things haven't exactly had much of a personality so far other than "Hey guys: Here's a few lines of vague dialog"
I can't listen to the pulse right now cause I'm at work, but have we found a way to get a wav or mp3 of it yet?

Yes. However, Gravemind's motives do seem somewhat muddled. You'll see what I mean when you punch your way through the story arc.

I don't believe we've seen any evidence that gravemind or the flood are not completely organic. It could be possible, but I just don't see the character as being enough like an AI or somehow "outranking" a Forerunner AI enough to take it over.

No, I do not believe the entity in control of AR's matrix is Gravemind. I had suspicious at first, and there are some very coincidental elements to the communications posted, but that may be due to historical events more than anything else.

for cutscenes of the gravemind check here and here .
It is also believed that the gravemind is the speaker in track 05 (Mausoleum Suite) of the Halo 2 Volume 2 Soundtrack when said track is played backwards. (ref=Whisper of the Storm )
However, the gravemind speaks in iambic septameter and the new post doesn't follow that, so I dont think that the gravemind has anything to do with this.

I believe this quote happened after the 1st firing of Halo and it is not present time. The quote is talking about the possible signs of life, inside the Ark maybe? Outside the Ark? If you remember the findings from "Server 05" in "Array_Recorder_Data" was the internal thoughts of the "intelligence" responsible for the first firing of Halo. I think this is a follow up to that. Is AR is telling a story?

I thought that when I read it too =] . But if the "beating" is the new pulse sound, would that make the spinning thing in Server 5 "the heart of the universe"? And does the "skin too thick" mean that what we are looking for lies in the center of Server 5? just a thought...
I'd like to expand on that a bit an and speculate that if it is tied to AR, that he's either going to communicate through it, or to it.
We know that the original AR was terminated, and he did say that he was going to find another location/way to communicate. This pulse and the slight changing of the text file could be the beginning of that communication.
Or alternately, it's still a method of communication, but not from AR, and rather TO him/us.
Does that brainstorming make sense?

Remember that the Flood absorb the knowledge and intelligence of their hosts, and collectively store it in form(s) like Gravemind. Therefore, it's not difficult to believe that Gravemind may very well be the most intelligent entity in the galaxy, if you will, at least at around 2552.

i think this is a recording of the universe after the halos are fired. At this point the ai is just sitting there realizing the universe has been annihilated, until it begins to sense something it didnt expect. LIFE. Now it is wondering what it should do since life was supposed to be destroyed. What is that life?
us?

I like this theory a lot. Only thing is I don't think WE would be at the center of the universe. Maybe it's Gravemind he's talking about? Or something new we haven't seen before?
Although he does state "Skin too thick to be sure" as if he has a suspicion on what it is, but can't be sure because of whatever protected it from the Halos (Not Onyx or something similar because he'd recognize and expect Forerunner technology, but some kind of natural immunity to the Halos?).
This seems to be the story now of how the Flood still remained after the Halos were fired.

This is what I was trying to say last night. I don't think that this new entity is the gravemind, I think it might be referring to it.
Like I said before though, I doubt it.
