Beating at the heart of the Universe.
Skin too thick to be sure.
It's alive though.
I'm certain.
What do I do with life?

The line "Skin too thick to be sure" makes me think of a planet with something inside, the 'Skin' being the crust or the mantle.

Could this be a reference to the ARC? I haven't read any of the Halo novels, but isn't there supposed to be a planet or dyson sphere or something with life regenerating capabilities inside?

The fact that it has now become "alive" makes me think that the system has been activated, or has come online and AR is trying to decide in what capacity he will use it.

This is probably somewhat OT and pretty out there, but I just thought I'd share this theory that popped into my head. What if Gravemind started out as a Forerunner drone or Forerunner and after witnessing the Halo's activation, decided that maybe the Flood weren't the worst things out there: they assimilate life and, in a way, preserve it, whereas the Forerunners chose to destroy all life in the universe when faced with the threat. So he chose to find a way to control them and aim them towards a goal.

I thought that when I read it too =] . But if the "beating" is the new pulse sound, would that make the spinning thing in Server 5 "the heart of the universe"? And does the "skin too thick" mean that what we are looking for lies in the center of Server 5? just a thought...

Well did anyone else think about AR's Question? AR wants us to tell him what it is a pulse does with life. A pulse is what tells us that something is alive, it is a sign that life exists. Does anyone else see it this way?

RE: A Pulse

Maybe the positioning of AR's second avatar in the Starimage1 file denotes the location of another Halo...

Anywho, I have suspected for a long time that one of the Halo's has been hidden in close proximity to Earth.

Also, I used to think way back when the Iris ARG first started that AR's second avatar looked a lot like a cave drawing of 343 GS or 2401 PT or another monitor... I wish somebody would get a pic of GS and that second avatar and overlay them over each other. Have you guys seen the Covenant Glyphs PDF file at Bungie.org?

I don't know about that. According to canon, humans have been colonizing other planets for hundreds of years, and had ~800 colonies before the war. Surely the UNSC would have encountered a Halo so close to Earth?

Could this be a reference to a Dyson sphere? I've never read Ghost of Onyx, but I seem to remember it plays a part in the story. (Please correct me if I'm wrong.)

So, could this post be referring to AR's controlling consciousness wondering what to do now that it has found a Dyson sphere that it is sure contains some kind of life form?

Another question: I went to the thread that is linked in the first post, and it is gone. What does that mean? Are we still treating this as a valid message?

Am I the only one who thinks of MC when reading this line:

hmm. I thought the question was what would AR do when it finds life and I thought the answer was that it would explore or try to understand that life? Although maybe the answer to "what do I do with life?" is "kill it" or maybe "quarantine it" or maybe "absorb it."

I thought it found the pulse (or felt the pulse) and then asked those questions about what it had found. Although a pulse doesn't always mean something is alive does it?? Couldn't it just be a signal?
