AO website

I am able to get in 100% of the time by linking through ethanhaaswaasright.com. I have never been able to get in by going straight to alphaomegathegame.com.

Am I the only person who has never had trouble getting into their webpage?

I think there might be DNS issues somewhere down the line. Can any of you that can get to the site tell me what IP address it is?

That did it. Site's up, but they are having some serious DNS propagation issues. Looks like they moved it to another host to handle the load.

What if...

I had a thought. A strange thought. What if all of the things we have seen were being created on the fly? What if they never intended to create the Triton website? What if the entire "game" we have been playing was created for our benefit because we were sure that there should be something extra?

For what they were intending, it seems that the EHWR website would be enough. We were the ones who saw something more there. We saw potential. Isn't it possible that the only reason this got to the point where it is because of the communications we were making with an email address owned by TM?

Initially there were no auto responders other than the hint one on the website (at least that is what I remember).

Everyone talks about their being amateurs. Sure. I will agree with you. But isn't it at least even possible that they were just trying to fill a need that they never even dreamed existed on the fly while trying frantically to get ready for a release of their game and also go to a couple of conventions?

It seems to me more a case of them biting off more than they could chew, than that they ever intended to leave us hanging. Don't get me wrong. I would still love to finish the "game". But I also think, if this is even close to reality, that we should cut them some slack.

If this is true, then we asked, they tried to deliver. Sure, we can yell and scream at them now, but it would seem that this was our fault from the start Smile

It's not that strange a thought. I think the truth is somewhere in-between. I think it's almost certainly the case that the ARG community forced them to take steps they hadn't counted on.

They posted what the divinus code is for on the AO forums:

Quote:
For everyone who solved the puzzles on the EthanHaasWasRight website you will soon be able to use your code at the Alpha Omega Store, for a limited time, to receive discounts for various Mind Storm Labs and Alpha Omega products.

Looks like some of you hit it right on the head...

Be nice if the guys at MSL would sit down and clue us in on what was going through their heads. I realize though they've got bigger things to worry about now with the website, two conventions upcoming, and the eventual launching of the game itself.

The only way I can make sense of the timelines is to treat Van Mantra like the Dread Pirate Roberts from the Princess Bride movie. The Mezin track down VM and kill him, and some other guy across the world puts on the VM hat and continues the work. So VM the idea never dies.

BTW, the allegation that the vids were marked "Cloverfield" so that's why they were pulled is nonsense--Paramount doesn't own and can't copyright mere words like Cloverfield any more than they could copyright the word "soap".

The argument is fine. It's not a question of copyright or trademark. It's a question of internet administration mechanics.

YouTube only has two methods of removing videos. They can remove them one by one, by plugging in the number/letter combination generated to identify the clip on the server. Or they can mass remove videos based on a text search of the "tag words" the author selected and/or their "description" of the video.

Here is an example:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ukHbEDPz10U

The video above is original, but it includes "cloverfield" as a tag line. So the video might be removed if Paramount asked for an instant purge of every video about "cloverfield." The only way to avoid this is for YouTube employees to view each video their text search pulls up before deleting it. This takes time, so it would not tend to satisfy a panicked media company.

Google is working on a method to search videos based on its actual content, using digital analyzation of video and sound content. This would allow YouTube to remove videos more accurately. The reason they're spending tons of money developing this is that they're tired of taking flack from media firms and users alike over inaccurate text search removals.

That's pretty much what I said. It wasn't about copyright infringement, although YouTube expressly states on their site that Paramount did, in fact, claim copyright infringement. Besides, at the time, there were only about ten vids that were even about Cloverfield. Anyway, it's moot now.
