Nope; nearest is the Perseids (named after Perseus, hero of the Cassiopeia story), but they're not until August 12. It should be a good show, incidentally--it's a new moon that night.

Well, if the letter is legitimate, who better to send it to than a video game designer that's just around the corner? Send it anyone else and we would have never heard about it.

BTW: Mind Storm Labs is listed in Florida's Department of State, Division of Corporations.

- Go to http://www.sunbiz.org/corinam.html
- Search for "MIND STORM LABS"

You can even download their articles of incorporation, which is public record.

Considering that it's illegial to incorporate with ficticious board members in the State of Florida, that about clinches it for Mind Storm Labs in my book. They're the real deal.

organizational suggestion

i'm gonna make a radical suggestion here:

Now that you have a forum in which to spread out, would it be useful to use the existing Triton thread (look down the index to find it dormant) for discussion of the PDF and all things Triton, and create a new thread specifically for discussion of this new Van Mantra letter? And yet another thread for discussion about MindStormLabs would be a [META] thread, as you are talking about something external to the "alternate reality" of the game, and instead digging behind the curtain to find the product being promoted -- or is it?

If the conversations aren't too overlapping, I could lock this long trailhead thread and divert people to the specific subjects. This is common practice around here, nothing personal. If things are linear enough, then you are welcome to continue using a single thread.

I'm not sure it matters if the letter is genuine. I don't see how it could contain any clues if other people didn't get it. After all, you could have easily thrown it out or used it to line a litterbox, rather than share it with everyone. I can't imagine any point in delivering a one-off letter like this, therefore I call BS on this. Either it's a complete fake, or someone is pulling your leg.

Or the puppetmasters couldn't pass up the chance to freak someone out.

Not to be picky, but it's a Limited Liability Company (LLC). Just the lawyer in me.

Anyhoo, found interesting tidbits running the Van Mantra/Haas diary pages through the Smithsonian Astrophysical Observatory (SAO) Star Catalog, available here: http://www.astrometry.org/saocatalog.php. This lists over 250,000 stars in numerical order.

279, 417, and 6 are all stars in Cepheus (remember that Cepheus was the husband of Cassiopeia).

7691 and 9102 are both stars in Draco, which is usually considered to be Ladon, the dragon that guarded the golden apples of Hesperides (11th labor of Herakles).

I believe this is not mere coincidence--there are, as I said, over 250,000 stars in the SAO catalog. That said, I can't find any connection between Draco and the Cassiopeia myth in my personal library of mythology books (much better than anything on Wikipedia); still looking.

We should probably do this, and lock this into the "historical background" sort of thread.

I'mnot sure how it should break down, but however we break it down, I would lean towards a [META] for Mind Storm Labs.

Ok, Draco, Cepheus, and Cassiopeia are all "circumpolar" constellations, meaning that they are within 45 degrees of the North Star and therefore visible year-round if you live north of the equator. The other circumpolar constellations are Ursa Major, Ursa Mino, Lynx, and Camelopardalis.

Did I forget to mention that Al-mijisti, or the Almagest, was the star catalog created by Ptolemy?

Also, Cetus was the name of the monster who ravaged Ethiopia in the myth.

The stars in Draco and Cepheus that may or may not be IG are not stars that make up the constellations themselves; they're just in that region of the sky, so if there is a connection, it's the constellations themselves. The main connection, of course, is that they all surround Polaris, the North Star.

Is there any way that '279 fh 7691', '417st jn Eh', and '6 ld 9102' are some kind of astronomical monikers? I don't know much about astronomy but I do know there are multiple names for stars.

Also, at the rate it's going, assuming there'll be more journal pages popping up at all, I'd say we should watch for info on Rukbah ('knee' - Delta Cassiopeiae), Segin (Epsilon Cassiopeiae), Zeta Cassiopeiae (which has no nice short name), or Achird (Eta Cassiopeiae). Three stars of Cassiopeia down, several more to go?

Intereresting, probably unrelated: Achird is more or less the same kind of star as our sun, and looks the same to us as if we observed our sun from somewhere in the vicinity of Achird.

Also, hi: long-time lurker, first-time poster, inveterate note-taker. Apologies if I repeated something, but I tried to comb through the 38 pages of posts first and don't think I did.

Oh and speaking of stars Triton is Neptune's largest moon. Feel free to trout if it's been said.

Any meteor showers schedualed for the end date (08/01/07)? Just a thought.

Yeah, the Delta Aquarids should be just ending on that day (peak July 28th-29th). This would account for the stars falling info Van gave us. The most interesting part for me is that it is a northern-hemisphere shower, and go through the constellation Perseus, which of course is the person who rescued Cassie's daughter.

THEN its the Perseids, as Almijisti mentioned above.

And no one knows where this debris came from. ooooh, spooky.

Okay, try this on for size: while I'm convinced EHWR and 1-18-08 are separate entities, I, like you, would like to play one big ARG. Here's some circumstantial evidence:

The numbers on the news cast of the 1-18-08 video may not be '163,' but '613,' as in the sign 'slow, children playing' is not linear. Revelation 6:13 states "and the stars in the sky fell to earth, as late figs drop from a fig tree when shaken by a strong wind." Ethan Haas/Van describes stars falling many times. This could be a connection?

Bear with me, this is but my third day playing, and I'm sorry if I upset the powers above - feel free to delete if it has been discussed.

New meta thread:

[HAAS][META] Mind Storm Labs, Red Interactive Agency etc.

Did the name of the upper-level just get changed from "ARGs with Potential" to "CF with Potential"?

I've been on all night and I didn't notice when that happened, but yes. I guess "ARG with potential" was a little contradictory, though this is more clearly an ARG than 1-18-08, which so far is...well, I don't know what it is.

Still working on that Cepheus, Cassiopeia, Draco angle.

Yeah, you know what? Because I dont like that they are not connected I am just going to be oblivious to reality and pretend they are connected! We should just rename ALL the threads to VOLTRON THE MOVE! while we are at it, because he sure said "ITS A LION!" I heard it! I KNOW! Voltron VS C'thulu VS Godzilla VS The Carebears!
