I just posted the 5 niv.wav files in the audio thread. NIV2.wav talks about the I Ching, one of 5 chinese classics.
http://www.sacred-texts.com/ich/index.htm
It appears to be another divination book used by making six binary decisions (a hexagram) called casting the I Ching. This definitley ties in with the human genome though: "The sophistication of this method has not escaped modern interpretation, and the four-valued logic has been compared to the biochemistry of DNA amino acids. How a Neolithic shamans' divination technique presaged the basic logic of the human genome is one of the ageless mysteries."
NIV3.wav also ties the I Ching in with dna by saying: "64 possible combinations in the I Ching. 64 possible combinations in human dna"
I will be skimming over the I Ching now to see what I can find, but check out the other files too.

Along these lines..

The only I-Ching that really jumps out at me would be #24
http://www.paranormality.com/iching_24.shtml

because it most resembles this image from Franklin's Square,
(found by tracing the numbers in order from 1-64)
http://mathforum.org/alejandre/magic.square/ben.ms.lines.html

but 64/2=32.... not 24 *shrugs*

I really am not seeing much from the I ching itself, seems alot like that book of fate clue, except this actually ties in with the human genome. So far, from what I can tell, the genetic code, the I Ching, and the D4-D5-E6 physics model are all just different representations of the same fundamental structure. However, I do not yet know how we are supposed to use this connection.

How funny.

The IChing and the Book of Fate are both widely-used scrying devices.

Much in the same way the Squares are used to scry, but generally only in 3x3 or 4x4. The only 8x8 squares that are used are called the Square of Mercury, and is used in constructing its Sigil.

See: http://www.angelfire.com/journal/cathbodua/Sigils/Sigils.html for more information on that.

The IChing and the Book of Fate are both numerical scrying tools - in the case of the BoF, you are meant to draw 12 or more lines in however many rows you choose and these lines undergo a convoluted counting process which eventually brings you to a detailed answer from the book's archives.

You need to draw more than 12 because there are 12 Zodiac symbols - much like the IChing, which reference the Chinese zodiac, and the Squares, which have a planetary number assigned to each NxN up through 9.

This is one area of occultology that I never really got into. I'm a Tarot, Rune, and general symbol-girl.

EDIT: Here is the actual Square of Mercury (please excuse the colors - they're part of the official magic square). Significantly different from Franklin's square, but the magic constant is still 260.

TRANSCRIPTIONS
NIV.wav files

NIV2.wav

Code:
I-Ching, the Book of Changes, is the oldest of the classic texts. With six lines stacked from bottom to top in each hexagram, there are 64 possible combinations that can result from each divination."

NIV3.wav

Code:
64. 64 possible combinations in the I Ching - 64 possible combinations in human DNA?"

NIV4.wav

Code:
"Heaven and water go their opposite way:
The image of Conflict.
Thus in all his transactions, the superor man carefully considers the beginning."

NIV5.wav

Code:
"A cautious halt halfway brings good fortune. Going through to the end brings misfortune. It furthers one to see the great man. It does not further one to cross the great water."

I think he's trying to point us back to the original "This is the beginning of the Ancient Word" square and 64 is a key...

Well, it IS an 8x8 square. And 8x8 = 64. That's about as "beginning" as it gets. Perhaps it's where 64 sits in the square?

If I recall correctly there wasn't a 64 in the original until we completed the magic square.

So far we've been pointed towards the Book of Fate, the I Ching, and one of the images from triad genomics is of the Tonalamatl, another divinatory almanac. I get the feeling we are missing something with all this divinatory stuff....

Where it should have been, then.

It's almost like NIV5 is telling us to just hold on a minute. "A cautious halt halfway brings good fortune. Going through to the end brings misfortune."

But, in the true spirit of puzzle-solving, I like to think it's just another clue. So far, both NIV4 and NIV5 have said things along the lines of referencing back to the beginning.

What did we do before we did anything else with that first square? We just figured out that there were numbers missing.

Ugh, it's way too soon for this before caffeine.

They do, in essence, speak the ancient word. There are very few more ancient concepts than that of prophesy.

The Judgement
Conflict. You are sincere
And are being obstructed.
A cautious halt halfway brings good fortune.
Going through to the end brings misfortune.
It furthers one to see the great man.
It does not further one to cross the great water.

The Image
Heaven and water go their opposite ways:
The image of Conflict.
Thus in all his transactions the superior man
Carefully considers the beginning.

The Lines
Six at the beginning means:
If one does not perpetuate the affair,
There is a little gossip.
In the end, good fortune comes.
Nine in the second place means:
One cannot engage in conflict;
One returns home, gives way.
The people of his town,
Three hundred households,
Remain free of guilt.
Six in the third place means:
To nourish oneself on ancient virtue induces perseverance.
Danger. In the end, good fortune comes.
If by chance you are in the service of a king,
Seek not works.
Nine in the fourth place means:
One cannot engage in conflict.
One turns back and submits to fate,
Changes one's attitude,
And finds peace in perseverance.
Good fortune.
() Nine in the fifth place means:
To contend before him
Brings good fortune.
Nine at the top means:
Even if by chance a leather belt is bestowed on one,
By the end of a morning
It will have been snatched away three times.

Slightly off topic

Hi again... hrm, with all this non-lurking I have been doing.. maybe I should just suck it up and register. hehe... anyhoo

On a side note... since my brain is getting overwhelmed(sp?) with all of this so far, I'd like to point out one little thing.

We have yet to begin.

Remember, we are still only in the Prologue.

This ARG supposedly doesn't "really" start until August.

http://www.christopherforrest.com/playthegame.html

"THE GAME WILL BEGIN in August 2007, with a press-release posted on
this website and e-mailed to ARG players around the world, including the U.
S., Canada, England, Germany, France, Italy and Japan. THE GENESIS
CODE ARG will utilize elements and clues hidden in the novel to assist in
online game play."

Let me repeat a small part of that...

That's kinda what I keep thinking, especially with these two IChing references that tell us to stay at the beginning. Perhaps, yet again, we're just moving too fast.
