Weird bipolar string of numbers where the first one (6) seems out of place.
It's a count of the numbers from 1-64 going both forward and backward.
Not sure what schema determines the mixing of the two (1-64 and 64-1)

Umm...huh? Haha...can you explain what you mean?

Just start counting the individual numbers from the beginning. You'll see what I mean.
Then do it from the end, as well.

You're right...I do see what you mean. But then, what does the six mean? That's the only one that doesn't fit, i think.

Yeah, maybe it was meant to be 64. Maybe, also, it is supposed to be 64, and the fact that it's not is a clue...

And tipsila, I tried just putting the smaller parts of the junk DNA into a decoder, but it didn't work....maybe the larger parts will

I just has a thought...

I was thinking along the lines that "This is the beginning of the ancient word" was just a reference to the beginning of the ARG. But I then saw it in conjunction with the 8x8 code. What if the code actually contains the literal beginning of an ancient word? Perhaps the key word to the ursprache.

Contacting Joshua

I called Dr Ambergris and got his voicemail. I snipped of the very beginning where he says his name, sorry. So I thought I would send him an email and got an autoreply:

Dr Joshua Ambergris wrote:
It isn't safe for me to receive email any longer at Triad Genomics.
We're going to have to use more clandestine channels to communicate. I
don't know who to trust, so I've hidden clues on how to contact me --
they are located in places you should be able to find if you truly are
one of my allies. Good luck and Godspeed.

Thanks, James.

OK, here's what I've gathered.

Inside Junk DNA, Dr. Ambergris (I spelled that wrong, didn't I?) has discovered an ancient prophecy. This is from his first Myspace blog. If we assume that he calls this prophecy the Ancient Word, then it would make sense for that 8 x 8 grid to be the beginning of the prophecy... if we could only translate it. Somehow, each number represents a letter, I assume, and he's gotten these letters from DNA.

My head hurts. But it's a good kind of hurt.

"This is the beginning of the ancient word" is probably a reference to the Popol Vuh, the Mayan creation myth that starts with those words.

Wikipedia's translation uses "root" instead of "beginning", but other sources quote it verbatim. Looks like we're looking for some form of story within the DNA, I'd presume.

I wanted to inform you guys that I have disabled the Unfiction account of 'Quiz' due to a violation of the Unfiction TOS. The account was purposefully registered as an in-game character and he sent various people PMs posing as a character, which is isn't allowed.

Now, standard procedure would have me lock this thread, but I don't want to spoil your fun if I don't have to... I'm awaiting an explanation by Quiz and the assurance that these boards will not be used in an in-game manner in the future before doing anything else.

As obtuse as the puzzles may be, at least they're well-written. Laughing

I have no knowledge of coding, but since all clues point us in the direct of the number 64... could the 8x8 code be in base 64?

EDIT: I don't really mind PM's posting on here, but it is intrusive and a bit of a failure of imagination on the PM's part.

^^ that sounds about right... Ambergris' myspace mentions Mayan culture, so I'd assume that's what we're looking at.

For what it's worth, I doubt it was supposed to be a 64... not that I understand the reasoning, but the official press release from the publisher has it as a 6. I posted that link earlier, but here it is again.

http://www.thegenesiscode.com/files/The_Genesis_Code_Press_Kit_-_Christopher_Forrest.pdf

It's on the second page, along with an email address for Christopher Madison and Dr. Ambergris.
