The Email

I got the email about the white envelopes...am watching snail mail as well cuz when I registered on the GC website, it asks for your mailing address. Maybe its just wishful thinkin, but if some of us got the email and didn't register wouldn't if follow that the PM is watching us here and just maybe he'd send an envelope to a registered user from unforum that lived light years away from NYC but who would have loved to have been there at TF even if there were no MIB to be HAD.......I was just sayin....

God's Handwriting

Looks like the Doc is back in town. I sent him a message early last week and he has replied with a hint:

Quote:
From: James
Date: Jul 14, 2007 7:26 PM

Dr Ambergris

Gods handwriting, much like his book, makes no sense in it's literal translation. This is what I have:

Knowledge of the summoned was written in the to 'DOES NOT EXIST' of God and given to his watch so that it would enlightened the down from generation to generation

Is it strange on purpose? Is it a kind of magic square?

James

Sometimes things that do not appear to make sense are actually the most important. And what edition of the NIV did you use? Different years, different words.

Good luck and Godspeed.

My copy is an electronic version on my PDA that I had to massage somewhat to get to run (but has never been wrong, off or missing any passages, to my knowledge). It's based on the version published in 1984.
Anybody else want to check it? Maybe with an online version.

I think Doc may be a little lazy, though as the last "the" in the decoded text is very near what I think is the correct word.

I can try to work on it a bit...

This is what I came up with:

"Knowledge of the summoned was written in the to "?" of God and given to his watch so that it would be the down from generation to generation"

This is was Rogi came up with back on page 19 of the forum except he had "and" instead of "of" after the missing word. I think we are all pretty close and need to solve the riddle of the missing word. I also think the Doc had a couple of errors.

This is the online NIV Bible I used: http://www.ibs.org/niv/booklist.php

I went back and looked at the 23rd word (which we all have as "the" (clue 27 7 25 5)) and found that "handed" appears as the 26th word in the verse. If the Doc made two mistakes here, meaning to provide the clue 27 7 25 25, and also miscounting by one word, "...so that is would be handed down from generation to generation" makes much more sense.

This phrase is from the first NIV.wav file found on the "Handwriting of God" page; the one you play when you click on the Doc's picture.

I agree on "the"/"handed" and am sorry for the one I got wrong.

Just a guess, but I'd say another couple of doc's mistakes might be:
*Listing 1-24-2-3 (to) incorrectly. It could be 1-24-2-21 (hand).
*Using Acts instead of 1st Corinthians for our missing word. Instead of E-14-37-18, it would be G-14-37-18 (writing).

Making our complete message:
"Knowledge of the summoned was written in the hand writing of God and given to his watch so that it would be handed down from generation to generation"

I like it! Now what or who is "the summoned?"

My best guess would be the the summoned are the church.
Not in the sense of a building or specific assemblage, but the people who fellowship/study together and hold each other accountable to their tenents.

ETA: That could be expanded to say it is all followers of a specific belief system. Since our source was the Bible (Old and New Testaments included) I'd go with "Christianity".

Specific to our puzzle then, we could be talking Ten Commandments (tablets literally written by God) or the Bible in general.

I'm thinking along a different line. Keeping in mind the plot of the book, I think the "handwriting of God" is DNA and that the idea is that the human genome contains "text" that can be deciphered and leads to an understanding of "Creation" however one may define that. Also, because the Doc has exposed us to Mayan mythology, I think Christianity would be too exclusive. I think the Doc would argue that the many different faiths have in one way or another "stumbled" upon this secret and have alluded to it in their own ways.

Agreed.
I was speaking only to this particular (NIV) trail. Not Tonalmatl or any others (iChing, etc.) we have yet to see.

TWO THINGS...

Two things:

First, sent an email to the publicist for both ThrillerFest and Christopher Forrest to try to scam a white envelope and contents..no joy YET!

Second, there is a link on TG's site now to sign up for their newsletter. Don't remember that being there. In any event, I signed up and got a thank you pop up that said I was already registered there...possibly linked to the book's email database on their site???? Has anybody else signed up at TG?

I signed up and got the already registered reply too. It must be the same list as the book site, but they figure some of us might be strictly in-game and not found it i guess.
