I'd be careful tossing out charges of people being blind. We don't know at all that the monster is for sure being referred to as "the parasite". And that site is just this

 		This is worth noting.

When I called and got the Mezin message, After the 810781078107 it didn't hang up. There was maybe 20 seconds of silence. Then "wurwurwurwurwurwur" then click.

Rewatching the trailer, I hear this sound. When the Statue of Liberty's head is flying through the air, it makes this sound then crashes against the building.

I should have recorded it. Sad

ok, from all of the forums i have been reading today about this movie coming out the monster in the movie is being dubbed "the Parasite" for now, no real name given, but after checking out the wikipedia for info on this movie coming out in 1-18-08 i found this info and website, strange coincidence that this site has a countdown on it, no one is mentioning it and when i bring it up people are still saying they arent related????? come on man, check it out for yourself

I understand your point... I don't think you're grasping mine, even though it's the exact same point: you can't say things are related just because.

That was only one tiny argument to why I don't think they're related. I'm having a hard time seeing how, if they ARE connected, they can be bridged. I'm a writer as well as a viral marketing professional and I already gave my opinion on the only way I see them being connected, which would be very difficult to pull off given the stylistic differences.

As it's already been stated, it would be like taking Blair Witch and mashing it with National Treasure or Da Vinci code. Not impossible, just very complex and extremely difficult to do effectively. So if it turns out that they are somehow related and it becomes a believable tale, then my hat's off to whomever wrote up this whole storyline.

For now, I'm enjoying the mysteries of the 1-18-08, and I'll enjoy the Ethan Haas stuff. But I am enjoying them separately.

Ethan Haas is a character from an online mystery that may or may not be linked to 1-18-08.

Personally, I'm of the belief that it's not as there doesn't seem to be any real way (at this point in time) for the two stories to work with each other.

For example, for this 1-18-08 "game", something happens on January 18, 2008, just after midnight in the span of a half hour. Some beast thing demolishes the city. Further, we know that it is a relatively small budget for this film, and it is being shot essentially with handheld cameras.

None of that fits into this Ethan Haas/Mezin Source game. For example, Van is talking with us currently. In a completely different kind of style than the 1-18-08 trailer.

The only way I see the two stories coming together is that currently this Van character is trying to drum up some kind of army of sorts to fight the mezin source. He'll amass this "army" from Aug. 1-31, 2007 (as per what he says in the game). They fight the Mezin for a few months, but then something HUGE happens Jan. 18, 2008.

Enter the 1-18-08 stuff/videotapes.

Still, though, it's hard to believe because the creative styles as well as the storylines, at this point, are vastly different.

And for everyone talking about the Paramount link and the stuff they pulled off YouTube, it's not too crazy to believe that Paramount can and does work on many different things...

I've been lurking here for quite some time now (ever since this odd trailer hit) and I have to post my thoughts....I think Van is from the future(story-wise and he is the leader of the remaining human population) and I believe that this Meizin's coming was fortold by his friend Ethan and that what we saw in the trailer was the beginning of what Ethan predicted (i'm assuming Ethan died in that incident) and now Van has somehow formed a way to communicate with the past (using this he can build an army and hopefully stop the incident his friend fortold from happening)...dunno just my two cents

 		Honestly, I think we have two different things going on here. I think the story of the ARG is leading to the events depicted in the film, but I don't think we're supposed to think the existence of the film itself is "in game".

 		My personal opinion is that the ethan haas story is going to provide a backdrop - a lead-in to the movie, and that the characters in the movie will not know of this van or ethan haas. i mean, we are not given any indication in the trailer that the characters knew something was coming - they are not the 'followers of ethan', and we don't see (or hear) a 'van' in the trailer.

although I am not a writer, I could easily see these two stories working together - in the same universe, but not combining together into the story of a single character, per say. The super-smart ARG people just get a rich backstory of what's going on in the film, whereas we just watch the people deal with it in the movie.
