I'll try this here, but the idea is to work with what we really do know and agree on...

In our mythic childhoods when we put together ship models, if it began to look too avant guard we then tried out the printed instructions. What if we just go back and look at the basic things that are obvious:

* It makes a moaning, groaning sound, like some kind of beasty.
* It causes moderate earthquake rumblings at great distance.
* Given the distance, it caused a fireball much larger than any past beasty from idiotic giant monster films (of any brand or toy TM). The fireball was at least 40 stories and *Godzilla* was 40 stories itself. The moaning thing should be able to get Godzilla stuck between its toes and hardly notice.
* The explosion sent fireballs miles into the sky, and some of these had reports like bottle rockets the size of cars (were they cars on fire, sent flying, gas tanks bursting seconds after the car is on fire?).
* People who catch a glimpse of it on the horizon say, "animal," reiterating the first point above.
* The thing can throw, like a baseball pitch, the 17 foot long, 20 ton head of SOL (fitting double meaning there) at least two miles. If it was at Rob, the ricochet is was either lucky or very nicely done (golf putt applause). In any case, the thing thinks and is mean spirited.
* Rob's reactions do seem to have a hint of the "oh, darn, I was kind of worried about this happening," sensibility to them.
* New York is a bit warm late at night for January.
* The interesting thing at the Slusho site is that someone has gone down to the bottom of the ocean and taken something (humans are the parasite?) from something that must be kept cold.
* In the Slusho/History site, the *octopus* swims up. Over and over. They don't swim up, they swim along the bottom, left and right, like the fishes and the crab does there.

In terms of interpreting this, for my part, a modern tale of Cthulhu (mountain size, mean, vengeful, octopus-head) does not yet leave my mind when looking at what's here so far.

For those of you who don't wish to go through 260 pages here is a summary of everything that is known so far about this movie:


*The project name is cloverfield
*its being produced by Lost's JJ Abrams
*It will be released 1-18-08 (seriously, no extra trailers on that date, etc)
*It is set in New York
*Plot: After an alien has attacked and destroyed NY, someone finds a video camera and watches it and this is the entire movie
*The only official sites so far that have been found are www.1-18-08.com and www.slusho.jp
*Ethan Haas websites have NOTHING to do with this project
*The budget for the film is $30 million, principle shooting has not yet begun or just very recently begun as of this post
*The title for this film plus possible extra info will be released next thursday (july 26th) at Comic-Con in Sand Diego
*The general consensus at Paramount is that JJ Abrams cut the trailer himself and is working very closely with the project
*some photos of the set have been leaked including what looks like a disaster aftermath in a NY street, a picture of a woman's torso being made into a casting mold, a group of weapons (RPGs or rocket launchers) and another aftermath photo at Coney Island

*The monster or monsters are internally being referred to as "The Parasite"


That's about all the info that I feel is legit and pertinent right now. Anything else is pure speculation and has led to over 250 pages of some interesting theories but all dead ends. I'm sure we won't know too much of anything new until Comic-Con next week. Hold tight everyone.

The "plot info" is decidedly not canon yet. The quote did not come from anyone affiliated with the production company, film crew or paramount. Take it with a LARGE grain of salt.

The filming has started, per the photos/location requests/coney island filming info we have.

Now that we're back to speculation, from the info that is out so far I'd like to share my new thoughts on the film.


1st, I believe Rob and everyone at the party will be dead by the time the film starts (if the camera is found in the aftermath it's pretty safe to assume no one lives through it)

2nd, I think JJ Abrams is deciding to do the movie this way for a couple reasons. In the trailer someone says to Rob that it looks like he should have left earlier. I don't Rob knows what is going to happen to him, but I think this line is used to get under the skin of the audience as well. It adds a level of frustration and sadness to the story since he probably had a chance to leave but decided to stay longer for some reason.

Too often a typical story has a happy ending where the conflict is resolved and everyone is fine in the end. If this is to follow in the footsteps of the Blair Witch in story structure, I think tragedy will be one of the major themes. And just like the Blair witch, I don't think we will be seeing too much of the monster. Im sure we will see some glimpses of what is attacking NY but Im assuming most of the movie will be Rob and his friends attempting to get out of NY or at least far enough to save themselves.


The overwhelming pathos combined with a handheld consumer level camera will be enough to evoke strong emotions and a sense of reality from the audience and hopefully make up for any flashy and costly special effects. We will feel the fear and pain these characters experience and Im sure this will bring back memories of 9/11 for some and the humbling realization that at times there is nothing you can do to prevent adversity.

do you have a comlete list of all anagrams that lead to clues, websites, ect?

so far the only ones i have are a story about a bell hop named
mandrake wig which was meant as waking dream which turned out to be part of a URL

then theere was some sort of newsletter about remembering
wand prowess which was new password

basically im looking for a pattern, or a template. It seems to me JJ is a creature of habbit. if it aint broke don't fix it right?

if those two were two word based anagrams how many more are there? and how many of them are names?

did any of them spell out words in a different language?

how many fo them were strange phrases in a story, such as the slusho history page, and how were they emphasized, what was it that stood out, that lead people run them through the anagram o matic?
