Is it just me, or did all the *.swf files turn into empty Quicktime files? Check it out and let me know.

There's something that doesn't make sense to me... That thing about an alien destroying NY and a clean up crew finds the videotape footage of what happened (I SO don't believe this theory) - How is there a clean up crew if alien monster dude destroyed NY (and presumably it's inhabitants) Coney Island is in BK, so ummm... I'm lost

What we can deduce from that is that said "monster" dosn't completely destroy NY. It also tells us that the monster either goes away or is killed hence the ability for a clean up crew to do some cleaning.

What is the *exact* origin of that "rescue crew" tidbit? If it's AICN, I read that comment more as an example and as a possible theory rather than definitive fact. Not that I have much faith in AICN to begin with, but still...

The "rescue crew" isn't definitive fact in my book. Then again, barely anything is around here.

ARG or not?
Some thoughts...

I think people were too quick to call this an ARG (mostly due to the whole Ethan Haas red herring). But I also think people are too quick to say this is NOT an ARG.

Think of it - We have six months before the movie comes out. If this ARG moved at the pace we demanded, they'd run out of material in no time. It's a full time job maintaining an ARG that moves at a constant pace.

The fact that thousands of people work on each riddle, and pursue each clue, and every avenue of logic, makes every single clue crackable. If Bad Robot want to have any free time to actually make the movie, they have to spread out advances in the game.

Imagine having to keep coming up with riddles that will be presented to thousands of people, covering every country, every profession, and every area of knowledge. It's hard and time consuming.

I think we just have to accept the fact that we probably sucked every single bit of information from what we have been presented so far. While some people think it's pointless, and that this thread is n pages long without having achieved anything, I think that we have amassed a lot of data that may very well help us out further down the line.

We should be patient and wait for the title to be announced at comicon. That may very well point us in the right direction, and we can move forward.

Once again - I'm certainly not sure that this is an ARG. But I think we were quick to call it one, and also quick to say it wasn't one.

Patience, people. Patience. Just like real life doesn't move at the pace we want it to, so does alternate reality. We have 6 months of game. A big chunk of it will probably be waiting. If you don't want to wait - don't read the message board. If you have to figure out everything for yourself, I bet you'll probably be busy for the entire time. But we are a massive think tank, so complete coverage of something as simple as a still photo takes no time at all.

Maybe someone who played The Lost Experience and answer this...did Bad Robot actually run the game, or did they job it out?

My answer would be "neither".

My understanding is that TLE was a project by Carlton Cuse & Damon Lindelof & Javier Grillo-Marxuach (which probably had the approval of Bad Robot but not their involvement) in partnership with people at Coca-Cola (for the Sprite site) and Verizon (for the Broadband site) and Daimler-Chrystler (for the Jeep site). There were so many moving parts -- even the "official" blogs felt like they were free to play their own side games -- that I can't imagine "Bad Robot" or JJ Abrams having any direct knowledge from day to day about the specifics of it all.

My point was that running a full time ARG that has daily, or even weekly, updates is a formidable job. I just doubt it would be done as a movie promo.
Plus, it's beside the point. Forget the part about Bad Robot for a second and focus on my entire point.

Do we?

By my observations, the pictures have come out in a pretty good patter thus far:

1) July 2?
2) July 6
3) July 12
4) July 20

I'm really not sure when the 1st one appeared, so I'm guessing the 2nd is pretty close.

1-2 = 4 days, 2-3 = 6 days, 3-1 = 8 days. 4,6,8.

If pic 5 comes out on the 30th, all will be in the pattern.

As for the timestamps, I'm looking into it.

Came out on the third.

3, 6, 12, 20. 3, 6, 8

Actually, it didn't come out on the 3rd. It came out on the 2nd. It's a common misconception. A lot of people think Transformers was released on the 3rd (day before 4th of July). It wasn't. It came out on the 2nd as well.

I know because I bought the tickets in advance online and my family saw it on the 2nd.... It was promoted as coming out on the 4th. People who generally go to sneak peaks assume the day before. For this movie, it came out two days before. I probably have my tickets somewhere if you actually need some proof.

Which gives you 2, 4, 6, 8. Looks like a pattern to me at least.

That makes things much more interesting.

I'm looking forward to the following:
- A new trailer with new clues premiering before a new movie.
- The name of the movie to be released.
- Some sort of link between the movie(s) before which the trailer(s) are airing

Then you don't know your history of ARGs. The biggest and best ARG done yet was a promo for the movie "AI". I suggest you read up on Cloudmakers.org.

Well, I would call this an ARG, but... Where's the alternate reality? The only thing we've found that's remotely ARG is the Slusho! site, and that's as far as it goes. No fictional people, no myspace pages, just an official website and a trailer. Unless Slusho.jp leads us to some more sites, I'd say this falls under the dubious category of "viral marketing". Dum dum dummm...
