I didn't know that AKM was founded the same year Lovecraft died. That is pretty damn hot. People were saying it could be short for Arkham, but that doesn't make a whole lot of sense. At any rate, AICN says it isn't a direct Lovecraft translation, so there ya go.

Well, Lovecraft-esque movie is my favorite theory, if only because the Slusho history has a lot of uniquely Lovecraftain elements and also does not require creative math and looking random crap up in the Bible. But if AICN says it isn't one of his monsters, then that's what I'm going to assume unless something major happens.

Since J.J and company seem inclined to give us nothing good to pursue, I would suggest we attempt to tear apart the information we're getting from behind the scenes, to try to determine more about the setting of which these events are supposed to take place.

We have a direct link to Slusho and the L.A. shooting set thanks to the image of the Film L.A. Notification of Filming, which lists the movie being filmed as Slusho. We know that a fake Sephora store was built - there are 2 Sephora stores in L.A. and neither are at the filming location. We also know from the Sephora Store Locator that there are 12 stores in New York City, and one on Staten Island which we'll exclude since it's inside of a mall. If the fake store is supposed to closely resemble a real Sephora store in New York City, it would appear similar to one that actually exists.

Searching Google maps for Sephora New York City, I found a very close match: at 119 5th Avenue, on the corner to East 19th Street. It's not exactly the same, since many of the New York locations have a trademark black and white striped awning which is similar to the black and white stripes on the L.A. fake building. However, it lies on a street corner and the architecture is similar. It's the best fit out of all of the stores in NYC.

What this tells us is that as the movie progresses it also progresses northward through NYC.

Well, it's something.
