 new lead/possible comic tie in?

The link below goes to a newsarama article about 2 new titles IDW publishing is releasing at Comic Con on Friday. The last line of the post is quite interesting as is the cover on the right (is that the CN Tower in Toronto or the Space Needle in Seattle?).
Also to my fellow 30 Days of Night fans, that cover on the left looks like a new 30DoN series is coming. Very Happy

The name of the image is sysadmins. The three characters are nerds. Probably based off a webcomic. My guess is no relation.

better not let the Cthulhu theorists see this. In the right poster, the guy on the left, he has a Cthulhu shirt on. I'm thinking no relation too, but who knows what ideas it might set off.

it was really the last line of the article that piqued my interest

If you're your a websurfer, you've already probably got a good idea of one of them.

Is there anythin else with a lot of online buzz and comic-con related that could be tied to either image?

Has anyone translated the kanji on the Slusho.jp site(seen on the large Slusho cup when you point to a button)? Do they say what they're supposed to say?

Yes, and here's a pretty good discussion on it from someone who has lived in Japan for 10+ years:

kyouwatou

Thank you, DeadbyDawn. Sis Bear- you were close- that was the kanji on the "rice crackers." For those like me who missed it, the page in the Slusho Zoom! thread discussing this can be found http://forums.unfiction.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=20076&highlight=kanji&start=60 here. Look for the post by Genosis.

haha fair enough rhialto that right hand pic definitly fits with a Cory Doctrow story more than the Cloverfield monster attacking toronto or seattle.

Damn you Doctrow! You win again!

It happens to the best of us, and by it, I mean feces, and by the best of us, I mean other people. I'm surely not the best. Just a guy with ideas other people have already thought of. Very Happy

The disparaged and chaotic nature of the threads here only make it harder for those new to 1-18-08 to come to any sensible conclusions not previously discussed. That being said, instead of turning away new players by being unnecessarily vicious toward them, we should redirect them to a very obvious sticky thread on previously thought out theories, speculations, and solves that has been either connected to the references sticky or on its own sticky page.

You're incorrect.

The stick contains two solves: the 1-18-08 and Slusho sites. Those are the only solves we've found based on the only things we've found that could even remotely be considered a solvable clue.

01:24: A bit into the third roar and the "whirring" of the SOL Head[01:29 trailer time]

That's another way to do it; didn't notice the suggestion to use the Paramount logo as starting point. These are all four of the significant scenes in the clip, so maybe there's something to this angle. Not sure if this yields anything we don't already know, but right now, I'm willing to consider this the means of deciphering clues about the 1-18-08 pics.

I do think "quiet, he's coming" is significant, but often overlooked. I know it's literally supposed to be Rob that's coming, but given that it takes place off screen and as such, is fairly obvious foreshadowing of what's to come. It may indicate that monster has a gender, which is male, and that it's not a female or mother coming to protect its frozen eggs turned to slushee.

The first roar is the first clear clue--it is a "thunderous roaring sound," and not obviously mechanical, so we know it's a monster (duh). During the revelations discussion, I checked to see if this was a shofar sound, but lowering the pitch of that sound didn't compare with the roar. Then I lowered the pitch and tempo down about 50%. At that speed, it surprisingly sounds like a wolf or dog growling right after the "inhale".

Slusho guy is our first clue to the slusho website which is confirmed related, but so far yields nothing that advances the ARG save what appears to be a back-story of sorts. BTW, am I the only one who thinks slusho-guy is tanked?

Flying of the SOL is another signifcant scene; the whirring sound still doesn't sound quite right to me and I think it's a clue. Others, however, believe it's just an attempt to capture what the hollow, windowed head of Lady Liberty would sound like flying through the air (an interesting project for a sound engineer, I'm sure).

Let me take what you have (and good work, by the way) and put another spin on it entirely. This is going to use some knowledge I have about ARGs to do some meta-game thinking. That's my disclaimer that I'm about to wander into Wild Speculationland, so take that for what it's worth. Oh, and this'll be a long post, too, so feel free to skip over it at our pleasure.

Generally, ARGS don't deal with the core of the movies - the big thing or event. They deal with something off to the side that the movie might mention obliquely but that has an important impact on the world in which the movie takes place.

A couple examples: In the A.I. ARG (AKA: The Beast), the game revolved around a murder that ended up dealing with a referendum to allow robots the right to vote and the cause of the big freeze at the end of the movie. They didn't touch on the little boy android or his gigolo companion or anything like that. Similarly, the Transformers ARG dealt with Sector Seven, which the movie used basically as a prop and a setting.

So, involved in the movie world but not really a fundamental part of the plot.

That gives me a pretty good reason to believe that whatever these clues might point to, it won't be the monster attack on New York. It might lead to a backstory about Rob and the origins of the monster, but not directly as such. Making sense so far?

So if the timestamps refer to specific points in the trailer (and it's a curious concidence that they seem to do just that), I suggest that they don't refer directly to the big obvious things like the monster's roar or the television broadcast.

Consider that one clue we've found (which matched a photo timestamp, BTW) comes not from what's "important" in the trailer but what's written on a shirt that is pretty much flashed right in our faces.

So perhaps if we're going to consider the timestamp/trailer time coincidences a clue worth pursuing, we should look "around" what is happening. Maybe there's something that's obvious, but we've been overlooking because the "important" parts of the trailer have been occupying our attention.

new clue in trailer??

so i downloaded the HD quicktime file from apple and dragged it into final cut pro. this gave me a video file with 4 tracks of audio, which you can listen to separately. now, since the video is in surround sound, each track has different sounds on it from the mix.

the main track has the man saying "i saw it!! it's alive!! it's huge!!". when i mute that track, i no longer hear it's huge at the end, and now i hear:

"i saw it! it's alive!"

and another person says "in the subway!" (possibly "it's in the subway!").

i will try to upload the audio file (any recommendations on a good site to upload to?) but can anyone make anything of this?

That's what the Search is for.

But if you can come up with a concise list of what's been discussed and dismissed and can provide reference links to it, I'd gladly make a sticky.

Didn't know you could do that with Quicktime...

While you're at it, could you do me a favor and check to see if there's an isolated track or if you can even hear that woman's voice saying "They Live" right at the start of the first roar. I know it's been mentioned on here before but that is definitely what I hear and I'm not really prone to hearing things that aren't really there. I personally have played that section a number or times and have had several other people listen and confirm it as well. I'm not sure what THAT MEANS exactly in relation to anything really. It only seems to imply that whatever THEY are there are more than one of them...
