And on a totally unrelated but funny note....as I was reading the above, I was distracted by elvis' av...right at the same time on tv the song Funky Cold Medina started playing (movie track) and they synched up all of a sudden. Since this is the thread to nowhere, I figure I can slide in something totally irrelevant too Razz

It was still funny though.

Re: Nike Zoom

Quotes about Nike not carried over for sake of space...

Yeah, you're right about that. It's a bit soon for anything major like that.

Also- what does Nike gain? If we see shoes enough to make it worth their while, the movie is no longer worth MY while. And a billboard here, a billboard there, I don't buy it.

And lastly- if Nike had signed on- don't we imagine that'd be a budget booster? Smile

infocom is famous for two distinct things: their text adventures, and their "feelies" which bring a part of the game into the real world. Now, a text adventure is nothing more than interactive reading like we have now, but it's the second part that can make this thing more interesting and allow a dimension of progression we don't have as of yet.

Let's jump forward a month and speculate a bit. Let's say we start getting reports coming in from both New York and Los Angeles of new street vendors test-marketing Slusho. (I'll spoil it for you, it's just a repackaged Slurpee. They're supplying the equiptment and flavors and using the promotion to actually test market for themselves.) But that's not the point - a few people from these forums actually go out and get their own sample of Slusho and a free complimentary keychain or rubber stamp or some nice cheap stickers. Along with posting cool phonecam shots of people at the slusho vendor getting their fix, taking sips and pretending to turn into monsters, they also post shots of the keychains or stamps or stickers, and we notice they're made by Fictitious Point Marketing Conglomerate, LLC. We try Googling and guessing at URLs and eventually come up with a website which just so happens to list Robert Hawkins as assistant head director of marketing. Who knows, it might also list a few more of the products they're currently marketing besides Slusho - like Advanced Thermodynamic Couplings, Monster Genetic Research, and Mr. Sparkle; all which may eventually get websites.

The point is that the next link in the game might just actually happen in the real world, with 'feelies'. We know Rob's brother can get Slusho rather easily if he wants, and yet we can't get any of it for ourselves because it's not a real product. If it becomes a real product, even for a small promotional campaign for the movie, we'll surely go out and get some. Hell, people will be packaging it in ice and selling it on Ebay, right beside the keychains, stamps and cheapass stickers. For $100, Luanne.

It's probably important to note that Nike has had zoom footwear in it's lineup since at laest 1995 (see link below). The "Zoom" name has been associated with lots of footwear, as it makes sense from a marketing standpoint. "They shoes will make you fast, ZOOM!" The name has been attached to basketball shoes, running cleats and others, and I believe is most recently tied to leBron James' footwear line. I highly doubt that Nike has anything to do with Slusho.

...and hopefully Atlanta will be a part of that test market so I can get my hands on something. Seriously, movie and game aside, if they have flavors like the ones I've been making on the Slusho site, then I'll probably be getting it just because it'll taste good. I'm a bit of a Slurpee, Slush Puppie, Icee kinda guy anyway.

I agree that the main reason for him wearing the Infocom shirt was to let us know that there will be "feelies", if not a full blown ARG. The shirt looked newer, as appose to one he'd had sitting in his wardrobe since the early-90's.

sorry if this has already been noted, but im new here, and didnt feel like reading 340 some odd posts...
but if you go to the apple trailer web page.
http://www.apple.com/trailers/paramount/11808/
you can find out several things about the "monster"
1.it's definitely large, and strong enough to rip steel
2.it has claws od some sort
3. It's more than likely derived from the water, notice the wake from the statue of liberty to the city, the size of the wake and the destruction to the two buildings once again give us an idea to the size of the creature.

im sure slusho.jp has been discussed inside and out.
but one thing that is kind of unsettling is the talk of being whales...
and well "slusho is people"?
ya sorry for being so late on things

Okay, I'm going to post this once more, since people still are insisting that "Slusho is people?" means that slusho = people. I sure hope that the guy from 1-18-08news.com reads this.

The quotes made on the Happy Talk page of the Slusho website come directly from emails that had been sent to the satoshiSPLATslusho.jp mail address. It's acknowledged by people who have sent in emails on this very thread who have had theirs listed on that page.

The line "Slusho is people?" is direct play on the infamous and revealing quote from Soylent Green, a movie where the product is literally made from dead people. Some inquisitive fan of the movie simply sent in an email with the quote, intending to provoke a response - during the early days when all we received was an autoresponse and not knowing that these emails were going to be hand-selected and used in the Happy Talk page. The people who manage the Slusho website probably got a laugh out of it and added it to the list of phrases on the Happy Talk page to let everyone get a laugh from it. They figured we'd all be familiar with the phrase, since it's often parodied in pop culture. Unfortunately a bunch of people, desperate for any clue to a game and unfamiliar with science fiction predating Star Wars, convinced the more gullible people following 1-18-08 that Slusho was made from people.

What have we learned here?
- Slusho is NOT people. A question does not signify a statement of fact, especially when that question is coming from an animated whale.
- You should watch Soylent Green. You won't find any awesome special effects, but the whole second half of the movie kicks so much ass, it will be worth your while.
- Don't trust what people tell you in emails, especially if they claim to be working on a movie set and have insider information. Harry Knowles is a real hollywood insider, and even he was misled by a movie set "spy" regarding those 1-18-08 posters.
- Please stop looking for faces in clouds, smoke, fog, fire, or explosions. It's completely subjective, as Rorschach tests will tell you. Look hard enough at any indiscernible shape and your mind will force you to see something in it. Besides, it's clear we were not supposed to see a monster in the teaser trailer, otherwise it would have been clear as day.
- and lastly: Speculation does not signify facts nor findings. It's purely your interpretation of what's been discovered.

Those last two were mostly directed at a specific individual, but we've already long determined those happy talk quotes came from emails sent to them.

Crow I was just getting ready to make some points about that XD. Anyways hold up lemme pull the pic I took up.....

Okay so oddity about the creature is for how large it is....the claws don't seem far spaced off. look at the SoL....it has three claw marks where the head is ripped off, and then a fourth one near the statues waist.

Also I'm having a tough time trying to figure out a basic fram for this thing, since it seems to have girth in both its legs and shoulders but not in between. Notice how the rest of the buildings that the creature walked through are damaged only at the tops and bottoms. with the one exception of (again) the three claw marks on the building on the left hand side.

Well said, Kayberry. (I just watched that 1-18-08news.com 'special report' and it's regoddamndiculous).

The fact that the Happy Talk comments are from actual comments, from actual people is darned interestin'. That still leaves two possible code sources on that page: they could have selected comments to use based on general content, but also based on the presence of certain keywords; and, the order of the animals might still encode something. Or, it could be some combination of keyword and animal... if there is any kind of code hidden in all that.

But, most importantly, thanks for reminding everyone of what the Voice of Reason sounds like. Wink

OOG

There's likely to be no shooting tonight in NYC. Lots of flooding going on in Manhattan. You should check out the news footage, some of it is like the Day After Tomorrow - subways being closed due to flooding, some streets were also flooded. And then there's that giant monster smasking things up. Laughing

INFOCOM

does anyone (over age of 25) remembers that company [/quote]

Man, I totally remember INFOCOM. They were the absolute best. Zork, Sorcerer, Hitchhiker's Guide, The Lurking Horror. Sigh. In fact, I was a beta-tester for Steve Meretzky at his post-Infocom gig with Legend Entertainment. Neither here nor there, though.

Anyhow, the only thing I can add from my knowledge of INFOCOM games is that when you'd get stuck, you'd often have to search out certain characters in the game to ask them questions. The questions would sometimes seem random until your necessary path of action became clear.

For instance, let's say you're at work and you want to go to the bathroom, but there's no toilet paper. You see a janitor standing idly nearby. So, you: ">Ask janitor for toilet paper." You get a stock response like, "The janitor shakes his head and shrugs," indicating that you're barking up the wrong tree. Eventually, though, after hitting, kicking, and jumping on the janitor to test for clever responses, you get lucky and hit on a useful question: ">Ask janitor about bathroom." You get an unexpected response that urges you in a new, possibly useful direction: "The janitor throws down his broom and tells you that if you want to clean the bathroom, you'll have to do it yourself. You see an abandoned broom lying on the floor." So you take the broom. You still have to use the toilet, but now you have a broom. Perhaps it could be useful.

I'm sure you get the idea by now...

The subways are effed now, yes, but I think that everything should be cleared up by the evening rush. I'll be in CP on my bike so I'll keep my eyes peeled for any large monsters, or less large people being filmed.

Two comments on that....

1) "NO REAL THAN YOU ARE" is both weird and intriguing.

2) Only the Dutch would put a four-year-old in a Speedo.
