[SPEC] New Screenshots Containing Clues?
Strange glitches in IGN screenshots from yesterday might be a clue...

If you visit IGN and view yesterday's screenshots that they released, you'll find that in some of the images, transparent rectangles are randomly inserted into the image. I have so far found a blue, red, and green one. I have posted them below:

Blue Rectangle 1:

Blue Rectangle 2:
http://www.phluxstudios.com/H3/blue-rectangle2.jpg

Green Rectangle:

Red Rectangle:
http://www.phluxstudios.com/H3/red-rectangle.jpg

Also, the area depicted in this image looks very similar to the email that started this whole thing:

I'm currently unable to do a whole lot of speculating and thinking about this, but I thought I would post it for those of you who have time to see if there is something to it.

When the Xbox Flash was released it was found that the email was a picture from Desolation. See the resemblance? As for rectangle boxes IDK. The green box seems to be highlighting something on the ghost.

Good catch

I noticed one of the boxes as well, but I originally considered it to be an error when my pc loaded the picture.

However, I'm at a loss as to how the colored rectangles might relate to Iris.

yes this does look like it worth investigating further.

I looked quickly for strings in the two "blue" ones, but I didn't see anything.. maybe someone can suggest something?

Those images need steg'ing, but I'm not the one to do it. (Wish I knew how and had the tools necessary on my work PC...)

I didn't find anything with Steg Spy. I'm not using StegDetect so someone might want to try with that. However, I am doubtful that IGN is in game.

Well don't forget that IGN will get their screenshots from Bungie, so Bungie might be dragging them into the game Very Happy

Warning, TINAG violation here: The memo from MS stated that "Iris" would take gamers across the web, etc., etc., etc. (I'm paraphrasing) so perhaps they are going to utilize everything they can to promote this thing. I don't think this will be an ARG full of mystery as ILB was, more of a fun game that basically feeds us the story of the Forerunners that we're dying to hear. I can definitely see them using multiple mainstream outlets to accomplish this.

On a side note, IGN broke the ILB story and that's how I learned about it.

these rectangles are red blue and green, if someone knows how to make them semi transparent maybe they can be layered on top of each other to reveal what is hidden

I think an overlay of red, blue and green would give us a rectangle of black.

I do like that idea, though, maybe someone with requisite photoshop skills could take a look at comparing just the rectangular bits side by side or layered over one another.

I don't think overlay will produce anything. The rectangles are all different sizes, though the two blues, and the red and green are similar in size. I tried overlaying the two blue rectangles, and nothing leaped out at me.

These definitely seem to be some kind of puzzle. I was playing with the levels in the images (there's a way to hide things that way) and couldn't find anything. I went to check the sizes of the rectangles, figuring maybe they'd be some kind of IP address or something to the actual heights/widths, but they're not drawn exact to the pixel. Only other thing I can think is to maybe cut each out and rearrange them on a larger canvas.

I tried cutting them out... There doesn't appear to be any congruality to lining them up besides each other in any configuration... I also made them transparent and overlaid both the original images AND the rectangles on their own, again nothing came of it. I also tried putting each image as a channel in it's own right making red red, blue blue (both of them) and green green... I couldn't see anything in that either.

I also went over to IGN and see if there were any other colour blocks to match up with the blue>blue we already have.

Naddah... Zip... Zero... That isn't to say I'm not just massively incompetant and missed something Razz But I tried all I could think of.

This picture from Bungie's website
http://www.bungie.net/images/News/InlineImages2007/BetaBeyond/Halo3_Epitaph_Environment-03.jpg

Is the exact same picture that is on IGN's website except for the colored box

http://xbox360media.ign.com/xbox360/image/article/800/800896/halo-3-20070701092758950.jpg

Maybe we should do something with the one on bungies site

It's also VASTLY larger... so maybe there is a detail in the big version that is pointed at by the IGN highlighted version...

EDIT 1: I'll crop out the section highlighted in the smaller version from the bigger version (if that makes sense Razz) and post it here....

EDIT 2:
