Nice solve, Tarim and Jwiv! Smile

Storywise, since Pat & Dave were the ones who created the software for busting TimeHoles... And since Archibald Plasm gave us the website address that led to the download...

Does that mean that Pat & Dave have created Archibald Plasm as an Augmented Reality Game (just like they made the ARG We Love Beef)? In other words, is A Plasm an Augmented Reality Game within the Alternate Reality of the MeiGeist world?

I think so. But I'm not sure if that makes sense. Wink

(By the way, my home computer's been really slow ever since I installed my new antivirus software [ironic, huh?], so I haven't been able to be in #Geist as much as I'd have liked. Sorry!)

Sounds like a good theory...It's like a play within a play sort of thing.

OOooo. Good thought! You might be right.

Has anyone tried to email Mr A. Plasm with this name to see how he responds...or anyone else from the MeiGeist world from before, just to see?

I suppose the next question is,

Does anyone have the means to try out the software, and if so what is it?

Ok I delved a bit deeper (accidentally decompiled it) and it appears to be quite a fun game, although the application I did it with doesnt have particularly good emulation tools so I would be quite interested to know what someone who has a mobile gadget thinks of it.

{Word of Warning} Do not try to look at the file like I did as it was too much of a behind the curtain peek

I did. Waiting for a reply....

edit: I meant that I've emailed Mr Plasm back. I'll also see if any of the past emails will work.

Installed the game and played around with it for a while.
it's kinda fun, but I had to stop 'cause my morning break was over.

You can install it on an SD card, which is nice. There are some "Max Headroom" type audio glitches in the content, but nothing dropping out, I think. That might be my PocketPC not being an HP, though.

Playing area is ~football field size to as large as you want to make it.

For max fun, one person should set the initial five points and let the other players find them.
The five points are the timehole, itself and four spirit zones. On each for Archibald, Hector, Angina and Grammama.

You just walk around till you find a spirit zone and follow the directions the spirit gives you.

Grammama tore up the family portrait and tossed it to the winds of the timehole. You have to find the pieces and put them back together. The spirits help you collect the portrait pieces, if you do them favors (So far, this was going from one spirit to another collecting items like a brooch, a bicycle, a "pocket barometer", a cup of tea, a piece of cake and a kiss and delivering them to another of the spirits).

I got that done and went back to the timehole where all four pieces of the portrait were waiting to be reassembled. I hit the "FIX" button and....

and....

and...

Another timehole breeze came up and scattered the pieces, again.

I will try again, later.

It's worth the download/install just for the audio. There's something extra funny about Brits who ham it up using exaggerated Victorian accents.

I'm pretty sure it isn't, but the girl in white on the lower right looks a lot like Rachel Dratch from Saturday Night Live.

Took a while to get everything set up and that only left me with a few minutes to start things up in my backyard- which turned out to be too small.
If I understand this correctly you need to enter the corners of your playing area which should probably be something like a public park. HP's mediascape site has another similar game based on a theme of defusing bombs.

Not understanding that the timehole is "supposed" to be the center of your area. I set it and then walked west till it said I could set a new point (About 100 feet), then I went south about 100 feet and set the next. Went east maybe 75 feet for the fourth and south, again for about 75 feet. And, finally west again for about 50 feet.

So my field is about 100x175 feet.
I'm sure it could be smaller if you let the GPS "settle-in" and get down to 3D resolution. The software probably uses the GPS' current accuracy zone for its windows and I'd guess makes sure you have a couple of "zones" between spirit portals. I could see it working within a 30-35 foot radius, if you take your time setting up the field and the "birds" are sending good signals.

ETA: Replayed the game. (One more round of just grabbing the pieces from the spirits and hitting "FIX" at the timehole).

No special clues or anything. Just the pic I posted previously and the satisfaction of releasing four wayward spirits.

Pretty cool technology, though. Lots of gaming and other possibilities. I'm thinking the primary market is in something like self-guided tours, though.

The way this game is set-up, it can be played anywhere at anytime with just a few minutes of preconfiguration. It'd be a fun diversion at family gatherings, for example.

In case it should matter... I misspelled "Grandmamma", earlier.

Wait.

/me is confused.

You set the locations of the spirits, or the game does automatically after you set the coordinates for the playing location?

Either way... I want to play now! Smile

I'm pooling all my resources to find myself a PDA w/ GPS. And I'm determined to do it! Smile

I believe you set the dimensions of the playing area and then the game randomizes the timeholes within that area.

I believe you set the dimensions of the playing area and then the game randomizes the timeholes within that area.

When you start a new game, it asks you to select a central spot for the timehole and then tells you to walk around as you are too close to an existing location. When you've gone far enough, it allows you to select the next location (First spirit node) and so on till you've laid out all five points.

I should mention that there are some oddities within the distribution.
Like two copies of what appear to be the same ghost picture seen when you are approaching a set location (spirit node) and some audio files that I don't remember hearing in the game that sound suspect only in that they are slowed down. ("Press the button to select the [nth] spirit node.").

All of these files could very easily have been left in inadvertently and I suspect that's all there is to it.

Awesome, let those of us that are sans the right toy know how it goes. It sounds like a neat widget, but sadly not compatible with my current GPS.

OK, so the neighbours think I have lost the plot as I made the timehole in my back garden and walked around outside the house to set up the other spirit nodes. Back and forth I went dishing out tea and cake to finally get the pieces only to have them scattered as Rogi did and have to walk around the neighbourhood once more with my husband laughing at me from the front window!...........Well worth it.
I now have an identical jpg!
