Tarim's friend Chocolate Jon (no relation to Licorice Jon) has lots of toys. So, today we set off, with all the necessary TLAs, to the local park. Pat and Dave (great to hear their dulcet tones once again) guided us into finding ourselves a timehole and some spirit nodes.

Low and behold, Archibald K Plasm himself did appear. Well we wandered around, talking to him and his family about their portrait - but they didn't seem interested in giving us anything Sad

Tarim should probably spoiler this - as it's obviously a crucial part of the solution: If you're stuck, wander over to a nearby kiosk and get yourselves an ice-cream. Suitably fortified, we visited the spirits once again. This time, they gave us all sorts of strange things to deliver to various other members of the family. If the portrait should get blown away - then just go and pick up the pieces again - it doesn't take long Smile

As a game - it's certainly worth playing once - and it did lead to a great discussion on the walk home about various possibilities for games using this technology.

That's it? Just randomizing 5 locations over and over? Doesn't sound particularly replayable. I wonder what it's purpose is then?

[META/VIDEO] Making of 'TimeHole'

Well, I was wandering around YouTube, and...

Look what I found! Smile

http://youtube.com/watch?v=uI10gNRazOI

Hazel and Jon explain the making of TimeHole. Yay. Smile

(The first three seconds of the video are worth clicking the link, I promise. Truly hilarious.)

So is there an ARG attached to this project? does audience interaction with characters in the series influence character progression. Sorry for the questions. LG15 was slightly before my time here at unfiction so I'm not certain how it all worked.

I'm not sure how much you already know about LG15, so I'm just going to start from the beginning.

In June 2006, LonelyGirl15 (Bree) began posting her video blogs on YouTube. People assumed she was real. Her friend, DanielBeast (Daniel), also posted videos on YouTube. Both Bree and Daniel would comment on videos, reply to other comments, and send messages. Early on, the interaction appeared to (note: appeared to--illusion of control) influence Bree's decisions.

In August 2006, people discovered that she was actually a character (not a real person). (People were basically stalking the Creators of LG15--bringing up wedding photos, etc.) In September 2006, the Creators revealed themselves.

The story of LonelyGirl15 continued on, introducing new characters and such. The messages and interactivity continued and expanded; a new forum at LG15.com allowed for direct interaction with the characters.

Around September 2006, an unofficial ARG called CassieIsWatching began. It was very creepy and had elements from LG15. However, it imploded in October 2006 when it tried to follow the events of LG15 too closely.

Around October 2006, another unofficial ARG called OpAphid sprung up. It used CassieIsWatching as a springboard to tell its own story. OpAphid occured in the LG15 universe, but did not touch the LG15 story directly. In November 2006, the Creators of LG15 brought in Glenn Rubenstein (the PM of OpAphid) and implemented OpAphid as the 'official ARG of LG15,' and it became canon.

So basically, LG15 had ARGish elements (interactivity and TINAG), but lacked extensive puzzles or the ability to truly influence the story; these things were added by the inclusion of OpAphid.

In March 2007 Glenn left the LG15 team due to internal conflict. Therefore, after March 2007, OpAphid was no longer canon in LG15.

The LG15 team tried implementing a handful of puzzles throughout LG15 (some involving phone numbers, for example); however, none of them were as in-depth as OpAphid.

All-in-all, I would call LG15 Chaotic Fiction; however, I would not call it an ARG. (OpAphid, though? Definitely an ARG.)

In April 2007, Maddy Atkins, a fan-ARG, was launched by Jeromy Barber. It ran for about two weeks. During the run of the ARG, a character from OpAphid, WarPylol, made an appearance in the form of a video. This hinted that Glenn Rubenstein, the PM of OpAphid (which ended after he left the LG15 team), was involved.

(As a fun ARG note, Labfly [the PM of Sammeeeees] began writing for LG15 around May 2007. Around that time, a live event for LG15 fans was run in San Francisco.)

In July 2007, Maddy Atkins Pt. 2 launched. This ARG is publicly known to be run by Jeromy Barber and Glenn Rubenstein, and it involves all the characters from OpAphid, all the characters from Maddy Atkins, and a variety of new characters. Although OpAphid is no longer LG15-canon, Maddy Atkins gave Glenn Rubenstein a chance to give closure to the OpAphid story. Maddy Atkins Pt. 2 is still running.

Also in July 2007, KateModern was launched. KateModern is the official LG15-spinoff, and it takes place in Great Britain. The videos are located on Bebo. The story of KateModern operates in the same universe as LG15--however, you can follow KateModern without watching LG15 and still enjoy it. The Creators have said that there will be some crossover between LG15 and KateModern.

Like LG15, KateModern involves viewer-interaction through public comments and messages. Also, there are some puzzles to be solved. Hazel Grian, PM of MeiGeist, is one of the writers for KateModern.

In August 2007, LG15 had its Season Finale. This involved 12 episodes being released, one every hour for twelve hours. It involved live events (fans could see characters at the real-life locations as the story unfolded) and puzzles. It was quite ARGish. Season 2 launched a few days later.

Also in August 2007, KateModern had an 'exciting day.' (Sorry, I don't know what else to call it.) There were several (5, I think) videos released that day, and there was also a live event where KM-fans could see the characters. Again, very ARGish.

Basically, LG15 and KateModern are two separate stories. Both are ARGish but are not necessarily actual ARGs.

Thank you rekidk for the detailed explanation. It was very well done and I think I understand as well as I'm going to. I loved Meigeist and if Hazel is involved, Arg or not it's worth a look. just wanted to know what I was jumping into. From your little synopsis,it sounds like LG 15 could be a case study on the best and worst of cross media entertainment
Thanks again
Michelle
