I have a Garmin iQue M5 and would love to try it out. I'm guessing that the resourceful folks around here are capable of reverse engineering/recompiling the WM2003 version and getting it to run on say, a laptop with any kind of connected GPS.

#14

Hi Everyone,

This is my first time out, so I'm still getting my footing. I sent our friend an e-mail to see if I could get my foot in the door, and to see if he'd offer any more info on where he lived or what he did for a living. No new info:

Quote:
Dear Casual-Friday,

Thank you for your correspondence and condolence.

I would love to tell you all about my life but
I don't know what was happened!? I know I used to be a very important person.. But now I'm just floating around in agony! I do miss my family so very much.

Mr. A Plasm

But he did send Butterfly #14. Nice to meet you all!

I only got the email from dave, so i feel a day or two behind... I also have none of the hardware, however i do have access to a GPS if needed. I wonder if it really HAS to be those specific items - I personally don't touch HP products.
I think it's unlikely that it would be limited to HP- after all HP just grabs Microsoft's code and adds some of their own images to it. I am more worried about the Sirf references in the GPS device requirements- hopefully they do support NMEA as well..

That will require some trickery, but here's what you can do:
install the WinMobile emulator that's available on MSDN somehwere, then install GPS Gate on the emulator to forward GPS signals from your laptop's GPS port to the one on the emulated WinMobile device. A little painful but it should work.

http://franson.com/gpsgate/

I still have a Dell Axim PDA around here somewhere and can yank the GPS receiver out of my CarPC - so I am all set for timehole hunting. Fingers crossed that this is not limited to the UK :-/

My email to A Plasm went unanswered Sad

Good news!

Patrick (TimeHole Forums) wrote:
To make things clearer - you may be able to use other mobile devices then the ones stated on our hardware page. But we have not checked them!

To run our Timehole software you will need a mobile device. (This could be a PDA, handheld computer or a mobile phone). It should have a touch screen and a GPS. It does not matter if this GPS is built in, fits in a slot at the top, is connected via Bluetooth or a cable. A PDA is a 'portable digital assistant'; a hand-held computer with a little screen and no keyboard.

The mobile device should be running;
'Windows Mobile 2003, Second edition, Pocket PC version' or 'Windows Mobile 5.0, Pocket PC version'.

Good news huh!

Our calculations show that Timeholes can be found in every shire, villiage, hamlet, town and city in the world. Not to mention all the places in-between!

All you need is the correct equipment to see them.

(Again I'd like to stress this sudden appearance of these Timeholes has NOTHING to do with us)

So, this should be more accessible than we previously thought. Smile

Not for some of us. I just emailed them that all I have is a little old cell phone (and I've only had that for a couple months).

New e-mail from Pat and Dave:

Quote:
Hello everyone,
Patrick and I have been tinkering around in the garage and we think we
may have come up with a solution to the little Timehole problem (that
we definitely did not cause.) Our tool kit will let you see and hear
the living dead! As well as helping you to identify the location of a
timehole right on your very door step! Although at the moment it's still
a bit unstable – Keeps zapping Patrick and making his hair four
times bigger then it already is! But we're working on it! We'll let you
know as soon as you can download it!

Here are the hardware requirements
http://www.timehole.co.uk/Hardware/

Until then; Our house is filling up with butterflies!?

Pat-
My Hair looks dashing, thank you David.

Big Love.
David and Patrick

I'm feeling left out

I sent this message yesterday evening:

Quote:
Dear Mr. Plam,

I think we have some connections in common and I am writing to offer my assistance to your cause. Please consider me a trusted ally.

Nel Bot

and got no response. Seeing that I had a typo in his name, perhaps he was particular about that- I sent this today:

Quote:

Mr. Plasm,

I wrote yesterday to offer my assistance on behalf of the acquaintences we share. I would be a useful ally if you are in need of assistance.

Kind regards,

Nel Bot

perhaps I will hear from him yet...

I sent an email yesderday as well and only got a reply last night which what sone others already received with number 18 of the butterfly images.

Quote:

Dear Hoggy

Thank you for your correspondence and condolence,

I am not of this age and so it takes some time for me to work your new fangled difference engines. -Though in my heart I believe that it is similar calculus that will save me.

You ask how you can help? I think you may need a portable difference engine that can speak to the stars to find me. .... Then we will talk in person.

Mr. A Plasm

So dont give up hope. Mr Plasm likely getting a lot of emails from people to help him. So cant be easy to reply to them all straight away. In fact if words spreads enough about the time holes it might be impossible for him to reply to everyone. So dont feel left out. remeber there is also the timehole forum where you can post and perhaps get a reply from Pat and Dave

I dont have any of the hardware requried but will follow this and see what happens.
