And your evidence for this is what?

I think he was referring to the history page on slusho where it says that Noriko loved libations. A libation is a 'ritual pouring of a drink as an offering to a god.'

But I believe that could just be due to her love of drinking, not because of her devotion to her religion.

I studied Japanese (very briefly) years ago. I am not fluent or anything like that, actually I suck at Japanese, but thats another story.

I have avoided translating the site like the plauge, since Japanese is kinda tough to translate, but I thought I would give it a crack.

For those who don't know Japanese has three different texts. Kanji which is borrowed from Chinese Kanji and in some cases given Japanese definitions (used for special case words and common words), Katakana which is for general Japanese words, and Hiragana which is used for phonetic spellings of non-Japanese words from other languages.

I started with the "Store" button since it has only 4 Hiragana characters: シヨツプ (read right to left) this translates into Pu Tsu Yo Shi, or putsouosi. For reference the english word "programming is translated into hiragana as: プログラミング or Puroguramingu. Engrish for programming. My question is what is putsouosi, put so you see? It seems is if that would be a miss use of hiragana though. It may be nothing, I don't know.

Customer Feedback is Kanji and Katakana
Downloads is Hiragana
History is Kanji
Happy Talk is Hiragana (with hyphens)
Flavors is Hiragana (with hyphens)
The bottom text is 6 with Kanji and Katakana

I know that the topic of translating the Japanese has been covered earlier, but I haven't seen the proof. It has always been somebody who knows somebody etc. Anyway I am looking into this further and will let you know if I come up with anything else.

Hey, I'm pretty sure the English translation would be "shop". Hiragana is Shi Yo Tsu Pu - since the yo is small its read like "shyo" and since the tsu is small, it's silent and gets sort of read as a pause. So its "shyo-pu".

I took four years of Japanese and, with the exception of some Kanji I'd have to look up to get the exact meaning, everything we've heard so far seems accurate. Just for fun I looked up the Kanji for the text below "You can't drink just 6" and it roughly translates to "6 cupfuls would not be enough", for example.

Also, we should remember that the history appears to be written to at least simulate a somewhat awkward translation from Japanese to English, which means there are bits where the English word choice may not be entirely appropriate.

Donkey freestyle
yes I did name a post Donkey freestyle

like donkey = ASS

Somehow I just wasted 15 minutes reading the wiki page on Donkeys....

A donkey is known as an ASS, but also commonly as a Burro
Burro/Burrow/Borough (NYC has 5 boroughs)

Christ rode on a donkey, also Mary while she was pregnant

The Ass may have been the symbol of the Egyptian God, Set/Seth

OK, this I actually can see a twisted relation in:
The ass was a symbol of the Greek god Dionysus, particularly in relationship to his companion, Silenus.

Dionysus
Quote:

Dionysus or Dionysos (Ancient Greek: Διόνυσος or Διώνυσος; associated with Roman Liber), the Greek god of wine, represents not only the intoxicating power of wine, but also its social and beneficial influences. He was also known as Bacchus to the Romans. He is viewed as the promoter of civilization, a lawgiver, and lover of peace — as well as the patron deity of agriculture and the theatre. He was also known as the Liberator (Eleutherios), freeing one from one's normal self, by madness, ecstasy, or wine.[1] The divine mission of Dionysus was to mingle the music of the flute and to bring an end to care and worry.[2] There is also an aspect of Dionysus on his relationship to the "cult of the souls", and the scholar Xavier Riu writes that Dionysus presided over communication between the living and the dead.

Silenus was described as the oldest, wisest and most drunken of the followers of Dionysus, and was said in Orphic hymns to be the young god's tutor

Following the libations theme, although it's a pretty big stretch...

Earlier in this thread (page 5) I translated the whole website (before the changes). The japanese is what the english says on all of them. Nothing hidden there. There used to, however, be some different japanese text, but it has since been changed.

I'll repost it here just for clarity.
"I took the time to translate the other Japanese text on the page (the link buttons and such). Nothing extrordinarily groundbreaking but thought I'd post it anyway. I also made note if the links actually take you to a page or not.

Also while Libations techincally and in the strictest sense refers to the ritual pouring of a drink in offering to a god or gods in a colloquial sense it is any drink, most often used for alcoholic drinks

Libation also refers to the breaking a bottle on the hull of a ship prior to it being launched. Which is only a coincidence with Ganu's oceanography.

Orka
Orka

Ok, I know that something about this has already been brought up, but this is just too strange of a connection for me not to post something.

We know that the donky on the history page is thinking about a blue oven mit. If you google "blue oven mit" you will find the information on a blue oven mit made by a company called "Orka"

If you then wiki Orka you will find information on a character called , "Orka" that appeared in the Submarinier Comic Books.

now, if you read the story about Orka it reads as this

"Orka was originally an Atlantean soldier in the army of Warlord Krang, and aids Krang when he attempts to usurp the Atlantean throne from Namor the Sub-Mariner. When this attempt fails, Orka goes into exile with Krang. Orka is then chosen to be the test subject of Dr. Dorcas, the marine scientist who created Tiger Shark, one of Namor's arch foes. Courtesy of a belt with a psionic amplifier, Orka is given the power of a killer whale (drinking slusho turned Noriko into "the samllest whale" which is the Orka, a killer whale"), and aids Krang once more against Namor. Namor, however, defeats Orka who is buried in an undersea avalanche (Just as Noriko is lost at sea) . [1] After another defeat at the hands of Namor, [2] Orka accepts the offer of the Brand Corporation (a subsidiary of Roxxon Oil (could this be another version of our slusho!?)) who augment Orka's natural abilities and remove the need for the belt. Orka is then sent on a mission that brings him into conflict with the Avengers, but is defeated by Thor. [3]

Years later, Orka escapes imprisonment [4] and joins Deep Six, a team that also consists of Attuma, Nagala, Pirahna, Sea Urchin and Tiger Shark. The group attack the United States but are defeated by the Avengers. [5]

Orka has also been in conflict with other superheroes such as the Fantastic Four, [6] She-Hulk [7] and the Defenders. [8] Orka then joins the team Heroes For Hire, but is killed soon after in combat by a Doombot - a robotic copy of villain Doctor Doom. [9]

[edit] Powers and abilities
Orka is a physical freak amongst Atlanteans, being 24 feet tall and the strongest of his race (Namor is a hybrid - half Atlantean and half human). Orka originally wore a belt provided by Dr. Dorcas that which by psionic means provided the added power of a killer whale to Orka's already considerable strength. The belt also allowed Orka to exist for indefinite periods on land although he was not at full strength due to dehydration. The Brand Corporation later augmented Orka's natural abilities, which allowed him to retain his strength without the use of the belt. The experimentation also increased Orka's endurance, but at the cost of his intelligence, which was reduced. Orka can also communicate with and summon killer whales and can also swim at superhuman speeds.

Now, the story of the comic character Orka almost reads exactly like Noriko's rise and fall. Just sounds way too similiar.

What do you guys think?

This is true, but the thing that makes me think we need to pay attention to the history (other than it's practically the only thing up on the site) is because there are instances where whoever wrote this shows more than basic "Knowledge" of the English language and grammar. Especially the dashes, those bother me because a bad translation would NEVER use a dash.

What I'm wondering now though, what would happen if you translate this back into Japanese? I'm just wondering if that would change a whole lot. I don't know much about the Japanese language, but I do know Spanish, and every once in a while a bad translation changes the meaning around. Maybe if someone had a lot of time on their hands they could translate this into Japaneese and see if something's odd?

The cheese

This is my First Post
I saw a person that posted something about the cheese and the oven mitt and after looking at what he said the first thing I thought of was the mitt was blue and the fish thought of cheese.
"Blue Cheese"

Now that I see this thing about the oven Mitt then the only thing I can think of is using cheese to fish with like wild cat cheese. Now I know that sounds funny but what is bait on a fish hook for. Well it is to trick the fish or to lure him to it. Like some kind of trap or something to mislead you a decoy.
Just a thought

There is a Namor the Submariner Film in the works for 2008 but Mostow is directing and writing it.
