I think between the cups, these two thought bubbles, and the names there's got to be something fairly easy that we're missing...

I was just about to ask the same thing.

According the people who decompiled the flash, the horse is referred to as a donkey.

Which might tie in with Abrams double use of the word ASS.

well... running "donkey oven mitt fish cheese" through the anagram server for fun, I get:

"Eh Ken, Tony vomited his feces."

Don't figure that's much help...more gross than anything.

Has anyone analyzed the music in any significant way? Not that I'd even know where to begin.

That's just wrong. Razz

--------------------------

Alright, I am stuck now on the exclamation marks. Granted they're used for emphasis but really, how many do you really need? On the first and second page, they use them naturally - just one. But pages 3 and 4, they start using excessive exclamation marks, and the specific statement that Slusho comes to life is followed by the oh so familiar 6 <--there it is again exclamation marks. And the final motto about can't drink just six, there are 3.

So...just messing around with a few preliminary combinations, I listed, in order, all the words followed by exclamation marks in their order of appearance, and in case it mattered, I noted their corresponding letter:

Slusho! 1,A
triumph! 1,A
refreshment! 1,A
satisfied! 1,A
again! 1,A
Ganu! 1,A
science! 1,A
else!!!! 4,D
all!! 2,B
whale!!! 3,C
find! 1,A
freshness!! 2,B
SLUSHO! 1,A
life!!!!!! 6,E
SLUSHO! 1,A
SLUSHO! 1,A
SIX!!! 2,C

TOTAL: 30

AAAAAAADBCABAEAAC

if you read it as its own content, it almost sounds like instructions.

Next, I arranged the words, in order of appearance, but also in numerical order, all the words (in order of appearance) with 1 mark, then the ones with 2 marks, etc. and got this:

Slusho! 1,A
triumph! 1,A
refreshment! 1,A
satisfied! 1,A
again! 1,A
Ganu! 1,A
science! 1,A
find! 1,A
SLUSHO! 1,A
SLUSHO! 1,A
SLUSHO! 1,A
all!! 2,B
freshness!! 2,B
SIX!!! 2,C
whale!!! 3,C
else!!!! 4,D
life!!!!!! 6,E

Next, I looked at the full sentences that end with exclamation marks, by order of appearance:

The Slusho! story is of magic and triumph!
Noriko Yoshida dedicated her life to refreshment!
she was never satisfied!
But tragedy struck for the Smallest Whale!
Noriko set off on a sea adventure to find the greatest, most tastiest ingredient to the world, and was never heard from again!
She left behind her only son, Ganu!
Ganu also liked to experiment, but not with the beverage-making enterprise that killed his mother, but for science!
And one fateful day, he and his teammates discovered a deep sea ingredient unique to anything else!!!!
While the team pondered miraculous ways to use it, Ganu had the best idea of all!!
And as he did drink lots and lots of the ingredient, Ganu grew from a small fish into an enormous whale!!!
He woke up with tears, he knew he had found the magic ingredient Noriko had set off to find!
make the tastiest drink, unlike anything on earth!
Because the ingredient was discovered on the deep ocean floor, under amazing pressure and in the most extreme cold, Ganu knew he had to serve the ingredient in a near-frozen state to preserve its freshness!!
He re-joined with his cousin, and combining the incredible drink-making knowledge of Noriko's business with the new ingredient, SLUSHO! came to life!!!!!!
Everyone who drinks a SLUSHO! tastes Noriko's dream, and becomes a small whale like Noriko - because you want to drink huge amunts of SLUSHO!
BET YOU CAN'T DRINK JUST SIX!!!

and next, by groupings, in order of appearance:

The Slusho! story is of magic and triumph!
Noriko Yoshida dedicated her life to refreshment!
she was never satisfied!
But tragedy struck for the Smallest Whale!
Noriko set off on a sea adventure to find the greatest, most tastiest ingredient to the world, and was never heard from again!

And finally, I removed all the single exclamation words/statements and looked at only those using more than what's normal:

all!! 2,B
freshness!! 2,B
SIX!!! 2,C
whale!!! 3,C
else!!!! 4,D
life!!!!!! 6,E

Something doesn't jive well with the excessive use of exclamations. It's pretty prominant on the site itself.

The one that stands out the most, both by virtue of what we see in the trailer, what we know in a 'meta' sense, and by the significance of 6 marks following it is this sentence here:

SLUSHO! came to life!!!!!!

Given the overall premise of the History story, and the secret ingredient, is this a hint? That it's not the site they're actually talking about but something recovered from the sea, contaminated or activated by the secret ingredient that seems to 'addict' everyone who consumes it?

I also checked to see if any of the exclamation marks might be links but couldn't find anything....

META question:

If Slusho! is a fictional drink, then so is the website and its content, namely the story of the history itself. If it's all fiction, does that mean that Satoshi at slusho is fiction? And if so, where does this leave Satoshi Kagashima - the named owner of the slusho website?

If it helps any, I ran the "cups" through a binary decoder, figuring an empty cup is zero and a full cup is one, with every spacing combination I can think of, and got absolutely nothing. I also thought there might be a clue in the name -- Slusho in kana (Japanese "borrowed" or "invented" words) would be "surasho"...doesn't translate into anything I know of.

I thought that might help. I should probably register...I'm obsessed with this now.

Meta will give you a headache, or a brain freeze in this case.

"meta" means that we know it is all just a game of fiction. Slusho is a fictional drink in *our* reality. However, within the reality of the Cloverfield characters, Slusho is a real company with a real product, and Satoshi is a real person -- he's sending out emails, right?

The fun of an Alternate Reality Game is that its reality leaks into ours, allowing us to interact with "fictional" characters as if they were "real". Just don't tell them they don't exist! (And this is why Unfiction and the unforums are considered to be Out-Of-Game, because the characters can never acknowledge these sorts of meta discussions.)

catherwood -

Yes....that's what I was thinking but wasn't sure how to approach, or consider, Satoshi Kamakazisushi or whatever his name is. I know it's a real person who registered but not sure if the name is to be considered a character or an actual person....and I totally get the brain freeze analogy.

Oh, and the "obsessed" one too for that matter. It's all got that "tip of the tongue" feel to it that's driving me nuts....or that tickle throat feeling and ya can't quite cough the shit up Razz

Slusho! loves your mails!! You Can't Drink Just Six!!!

First of all, hello all. I'm not new to the ARG Phenomenon, but this is my first "official post."

I saw that in this thread the Auto-Reply E-Mail back from Satoshi wasn't mentioned so I figured I'd bring it here. This is mostly for Tinag222, but notice that the initial SLUSHO! is always followed by an exclamation point. Then, at the end of that sentence are two more exclamation points, followed by the ending of the last sentences, three exclamation points.

If you can't add, that makes six. Relevance? Maybe.

A few notes about the website itself, disregarding any coding, when you click on the "History" section it takes you to an under water scene. Looking at it there are three things that shouldn't be there. The first being the "Donkey". It's not a horse, it's a donkey. There are no "Sea Donkeys". The second and third things being the two children.

That then takes us to the "Downloads" section where the two children seem to be flying kites, but another strange thing is that the Children don't seem to be standing on any solid ground. Again, children where they're not supposed to be.

When you first enter the site and you hover over one of the drops of Slusho, a frog appears and says, "You'll come back for more Slusho. Soon!" Seemed to me like a hint of updates coming soon, and people referencing the site often.

I'm sure I'm reaching, but every little thing could be a clue.

YOU CAN'T DRINK JUST SIX.

Re: SLUSHO!
SLUSHO! E-Mail

For what it's worth, I think that the exclamation point in Slusho! is as much a part of the name as the one in Jeopardy!.

Don't know what that means (maybe we ignore it when it appears in that context?).

I'd like to think so, but there are inconsistencies on the site itself. Example being, when the frog appears and says "You'll come back for more Slusho. Soon!" There is no exclamation point there, and we all know that frogs are stingy with grammar!

Shocked was that a shot? Razz

I haven't gotten to the graphics yet, just have to get the punctuation out of my system but I am very conscious of the graphics and their curiosities so far. I've been thinking about that too, these creatures with their thought bubbles, and the things they're 'thinking' about? Swiss cheese? Oven mit?

You know how some people are just freaked out by clowns? That's how I am with just about all forms of asian cartoons - I never could get into them because they all creep me out so bad....so it might be unconscious aversion to focusing on the graphics.

And whether it's just long time associative or not, I don't know just yet but every time I've read: can't drink just six, it's instantly followed by "can't eat just one"

So far, I'm leaning toward the History content providing the clues hidden in the story....or using the fairy tale style kid story and looking at it as adult real events behind the company...and how that might fit with Rob's disrupted trip to Japan.

And the others like myself who felt that Rob's and some of the others reactions to a giant alive roaring thing blowing up the city seems just a little cavalier or unfazed. In real life if that happened people would shit their pants. There are a couple in this group, if not the majority of them who seem to be reacting to it as if they watched a 3 car pile up down the street....and are still in that "bystander" mode of "eh, this isn't quite in my back yard but it's tripped out." The only time they're actually reacting is in flight mode when stuff is flying down around them.

Then again, they're all supposedly unknowns - maybe it's bad acting?

It may not turn out to be this in the long run, but I've become about 90% convinced that the story and Rob's experience are intrinsically laced together....and the clues are there, emphasized by the excessive exclamation marks on certain statements....

No one had SEEN a monster yet. They were suitably freaked out. Their acting is fine. Sure they weren't running along with the masses, but I think that's more to do with storytelling than anything else.

Maybe MAYBE Rob knows something but it's a stretch.

Point taken, but I think seeing a monster is a little moot in light of still witnessing the head of the SOL come careening down the street Razz

What? You've never seen that?

Jeesh, you're too sheltered!

It may, or may not have been a shot! Laughing

I like this thread much more then the other. That was just cluttered all up, and for some reason I thought it'd be a good idea to read all 90+ pages. But I did.

I'm with you on Asian art, just gives me the creeps. Maybe that's what they always intended?

Anyways, I think that the main point of the randomness that is the Oven Mit/Cheese is, I think, supposed to tell you that there's something not right with the sprites on the page. Something is wrong. It basically makes you ask the question, "Why?" a lot. Why would a donkey be swimming under water? Why would that very same donkey be thinking of an oven mit? It may be because those two things aren't supposed to be there, and something put them there. I really hate to bring up the idea of In Game Tampering" just because I don't think that's the goal here, but I can't help but wonder what in a floating donkeys ass, is going on here.

Also, something about the empty cup, full cup, spacing thing earlier. Maybe after you get that information, you're supposed to add in the first letters of "You Can't Drink Just Six!" Let's not also forget the contraction of "can not". If you remove the contraction you get,

"You Can Not Drink Just Six!"

Do my eyes deceive me? Is that six words to go along with the trend of sixes involving the mystery that is Slusho?!

Again, for those who can not count, that's six!
