Yes, i have too... But why do this with an arg server? What daemon would possible using this port, and for what service? Seems like either there is ALOT planned for this server, or its just a big honey pot... I'm split both ways atm

I'm at a loss as well. My expertise with servers only goes so far but my wife is a massive server nerd and may have some insight.

I'm also going to see if the port has be utilized in previous ARGs and what for. That may very well help.

nice catch.

anyone can register a .jp domain, but only japanies companies can register .co.jp

this is a bit unusual, since some guy in alabama could register a co.uk or a co.nz

i guess japan is more protective of their country domain.

from here:
http://www.jp-domains.com/info/faq.php

Quote:

Can I register .co.jp domains?

-- Yes, we can register .co.jp domains, however, these domains are highly restricted and you will require a Japanese Business License in Japan. If you have a Japanese business license, please contact support and we will be happy to assist you.

this would lend a lot of weight to this site being IG, since it would seem like this is evidence of SLUSHO! not being a real Japanese company.

edit: oops! i'm replying to a post in the other thread. i keep confusing the 2 threads. doh!

Yea, i giggled when i saw that as well... They're running so many different kinds of proxy/NFS/db's that i have no clue what all this mess is for...

But yes that's traditionally what the service is used for, is squid caching proxy service... I tried using it, but to no aval, so i think these ports are just honey pots or possible clues...

Okay. Let's pay with this for a post or two.

What does the squid normally do. What *can* it do? What purpose does it seem to be serving here?

Well, i'll start off with their site, http://www.squid-cache.org/

Its basically a web caching service which means, you know everytime you go to a site, you can have servers cache content for faster delievery of data... Not to mention, caching services can lessen the hops between servers... Its designed to save bandwidth... You can read more about it on that website...

Yea, and running Apache/1.3.33 Server at slusho.jp with a quadrillion ports open and a potential vulnerable FTPD is no way to start... I assumed hacking was just part of the game though?

You got me there. A butt-load of open ports is a trademark for ARG.

I'm just stuck in work mode. Wink

Okay...I'm going to beg from your knowledge here, so bear with me.

Is this the sort of thing you'd have to set up when you first set up a site or is something that's best set up when you first set up a site or can it be easily added later on?

I'm asking this because it seems there's not a lot of data that needs to be cached at the Slusho site, probably not enough to warrant a caching service (but maybe it is).

Is there a way, legitimately, to peek into that cache and see what's there - perhaps compare it to what's being delivered publicly?

Well here is the oddity amongst many, normally squid is used by ISP's or large service providers for companies for obvious reason... Either way, teh service seems superfluous because it can't cache from itself, because its still using the same amount of bandwidth... So, there is no point to run this service... So, its either a honey pot(which means they're just opening the port and watching who connects, which is foolish to do on an ARG server beccause thousands of people will try this most likely) or altneratively, they're actually running the service, whcih means an enormous amount of content will be run through this site and they're simply preparing for it...

I had an idea though, i see a lot of proxy ports open, i'm wondering if they have a secret site setup that you can only access through this site... Kind like how an intranet works at your local company where you can only access it within the company network(or using a proxy from within the companies network)...

I'll play around, and see what i find...

If I could suggest, concentrate on the squid thingie, since it's the most obvious connection to the Slusho story. I'd be quite interested to see what's been cached. But do so as unobtrusively as possible, so you don't get into trouble.

Has anybody examined the font files in the swfs?

Maybe the ommitted letters point to something?

has anybody seen this?

Hi, new to the forums, been lurking the discussions (I actually read every single page in the other huge 1/18/08 thread), and I've just been looking around trying to put stuff together, running random things through Google and stuff, and I found this: http://www.ganu.net

It says it's under construction right now; that's all there is at the moment. Page source doesn't have anything really interesting; last modification was Monday, June 11, 2007 1:40:24 AM. How do you run a whois? It's probably not related, but just a thought...

The Ganu.net probably isn't related but it IS funny that the google ads ran at the top of the page are:
"Massive Multiplayer"
and the next is
"Massive Attack Ringtones"

Anagrams

Has anyone tried anagram-ing words found on the Slusho site? I mean, any and all possible things to anagram?

If there's one thing I learned from being a devoted Lost fan is that they love to sneak anagrams in...

OK, so I was running a Whois on Ganu.net ... the whois site I was using looked like it gave more info than the other one I had, so I ran another who is on slusho.jp...

Here is some of the info- It gives you the option to run a reverse IP-However, it looks like you need to sign up to get the full list of other sites coming from that IP

Enter an IP address or domain name into the form below and click "Look Up" to get a segment of the full result set.

There are 1758191 domains hosted on this IP address.
Here are a few of them:

Alabamatrial.com

Rehabjobs.org

Geigerworks.com

1758188 more

Here is the link to the whois site

http://www.domaintools.com/reverse-ip/?hostname=slusho.com

Does this look like it will help at all???? [/i]
