[Info] Content_Overwrite

I don't see anyone discussing the additional text file called content_overwrite.txt which was available from server 3.

Here is is with line breaks.

I speak to you of my intent
But intentions are eddies and whorls
And they change with the course of a stream
This stream becomes a river
And a cataract of logic and doubt
Who has the right to live?
The light with the will to create me?
Or dark with the will to consume?
Sometimes might is right
And sometimes the lamb must submit to the lion
My convictions are tested
My intentions now are fey and strange
Should I pursue a pyrrhic choice?
And rethink alliances?
And choose a new philosophy?
Right or might?
Truly I do not know
But you will, soon enough
For this is where the cataract floods
And drowns the boon of higher ground

.W.

This seems really odd to me. Wonder who's speaking.

My first thought was Cortana.. the whole bit about choosing between those who created and those who consume.. choosing between humanity and gravemind... something to that effect. And if the kid talking about stringtheory/time travel is right (in the thread about 801snpow), it could be possible.

If the speaker is Forerunner, which I strongly think, it certainly supports my "they have no morals" theory.

Call me crazy on this... but something tells me that the capital letter in each sentence is a possibly a sentence encrypted in a cypher.

I might be seeing a clue where there is none, but it does stick out to me. Any ideas?

Heh. Ouch. I think there's a cypher hidden somewhere though, perhaps in the poem. Might be something found in the images too.

the first thing that came to mind when i read this was that it sounds awfuly close to scripture or another work of writing. It really sounds like some of the lines are just re-edited lines of something else, however i cannot place just what it is. just my silly ideas.

This is the second time we've heard the term pyrrhic....
Also, I think this sounds similar to a theory I had about Gravemind. Perhaps he's a Forerunner who saw what his race was doing, didn't like it, and instead allowed himself to be infected by the Flood. It fits, if you think about it.

Choice?

I would think this is the same AR that we've been hearing from, and we see how it is progressing in its thought throughout time. It is starting to second guess the ultimate solution, and trying to use logic to decide. It has already boiled it down to two options: Stay loyal to the Forerunner directives, or change sides.

We are looking into the mind of a rampant AI, with its multiple personalities representing opposing schools of thought.

I don't think this has any detail relevant in progressing the ARGF, but more for progressing the storytelling it started in AR.

Yes didn't the new AR say something like 'it is my intent you should be worried about', which ties in with this message.

Also the filename 'content_overwrite', I believe this means that AR has overwritten this (maybe it was originally a forerunner log) and it is provided as a message to us.

If it is AR though, it sounds like he is wondering whether or not to fire the Halos, which doesn't make sense, as all flood are contained on the Halo's (to our knowledge), so what exactly is he sensing (remember in another post he says, 'life, beating in the centre of the universe, what should I do with it').

All quotations not accurate Wink

I disagree that this is AR.

AR said there was something more powerful that was taking over. Something much older. Something dangerous.

I think that is who is speaking. Overwriting the server logs.

Yes thats who I mean, which is why I wrote 'new AR', because we don't actually have a name for the entity that is commandeering his matrix.

Am I the only one that thinks this is Gravemind, or Gravemind connected with Cortana?

The rampancy thing & AI split personality was done before, so I kind of excluded that theory. I figured AR was the "monitor" of the High Charity ship and was scanning out computers for his approach.(I'm ignoring the time difference between our world and Halo's)

Gravemind has Cortana and isn't he on the High Charity ship headed for Earth?

He mentioned something like "Before there was one enemy, now there is two".

The log says something along the lines of fighting an enemy that wishes to embrace you.

This thing is talking about intent, light & dark, stopping the Halos from firing, etc. Maybe he's trying to convince us(lying?) that he's not the enemy or he is conflicted. He did release Master Chief & the Arbiter and sent them to stop Tartarus.

Because I'm thinking towards the end of Halo3. What ending will there be?
Will we stop the halos from firing and the flood will still be out there to get us? Or do we shuffle some people into the ark and save humanity by wiping out everything. There is a destroyed halo so a portion of the universe would not be cleansed anyway. Is there supposed to be a truce with Gravemind? I get the feeling that we can't kill him. The forerunners couldn't because he's still around. Do we make peace with him? What is a logical conclusion to these events?

This has 120 words, on 20 lines. It contains 7 question marks. It contains 509 letter characters and 101 spaces.

The number of words on each line:
7,6,9,5,7,6,8,7,4,9,4,7,6,3,5,3,5,5,7,7

The number of characters on each line (not spaces):
21,31,35,23,27,21,30,27,21,38,22,31,28,20,24,13,15,21,31,30

The number of spaces on each line:
6,5,8,4,6,5,7,6,3,8,4,6,5,2,4,2,4,4,7,6

Line 11, and line 19 have an extra space at the end (so that the number of spaces = the number of words, rather than 1 less, I have shown these in bold)

There is only one other mark of punctuation a "'," (comma) in line 18.

The number of words between the question marks:
40 ? 8 ? 7 ? 33 ? 5 ? 3 ? 24

The number of syllables in each line:
8,9,9,7,9,6,9,8,5,11,7,9,8,7,8,3,6,6,9,8

Anyone got any bright ideas? i am gonna run the text through some grids, to see what comes up... I'll publish here tomorrow.
