[OT] Halo3 live action trailer Was that a trailer to build hype for halo 3? Or a movie trailer?

I'm of the opinion that this was done as a kick in the shins to the movie studios that pulled out of the Halo project. Sort of a, "Hey! Yeah you idiots (Fox + whomever else they had on the bill)! Look what we can do with this, and how much hype we can bring! SPEND YOUR MONEY! It's not too late."
It was pretty sweet looking. That Pelican looks pretty real.

That was live action? (We are talking about the trailer shown mid-way in the conference right?)

I'm not sure what to make of that trailer. It advertises "Halo 3", it's called "Halo: Arms Race" (and the description on XBL makes me think it's another story arc)... some of the scenes are quite obviously digitally rendered which doesn't say much about the live-action film (nor about weta digital compared to their past movies).
I think I'm leaning more towards new IP for Halo, possibly a teaser for the game (IIRC) that Jackson is working on. But if that's a teaser for the movie, it's definitely got some issues...
I do have to say though, seeing the ONI vessel slowly hover over the sunset... *mouth agape*

I hope the movie is way better than that.
It works for a halo 3 promo but they're gonna need that studio money for it to look any good.
Just to sum up my thoughts,
Promo = kick ass!!!
Movie = LAME

It was handy-cam shot footage at WETA workshop in New Zealand, showcasing their work on the props for the Halo movie.

Arashi: advertising "Halo 3", which is a point of confusion, as well as the fact that the CG scenes really, regretfully I say, not all that 'realistic' (easily discernable as CG) and wouldn't do justice to Jackson's movie/FX reputation.

Yeh, I agree with you about that - it is confusing to see the Halo 3 at the end, however at bungie.net under the E3 Media explosion news post it says the video is called "Arms Race" and it describes it as:
"A collaboration between Bungie Studios, director Neill Blomkamp, WETA Workshop and Origami Digital LLC, brings the first digital short depicting humanity's struggle to save Earth."

I'm fairly certain that it is going to be part of a series of shorts done by that director, to raise hype for Halo 3 and act as a cheap offering to replace the movie. There was some interesting stuff there though... anyone notice the 'Sol' during the text transmission. There was a SolCor... or SolCorp or something mentioned in the Cortana letters, but it was considered none cannon...

Lol, I thought the same thing - I watched it and at first I was like: wow, this text is kinda lame... then they were suiting up and I just said "Oh God, this is like Starship Troopers 2 quality"
Oh well, I was impressed with the props, its just the quality of the vid made me laugh

It was just a short that they hired some guy to make. Nothing special. The real star of E3 was the Campaign Trailer of Halo 3. I almost broke my TV after the live action Cg thing played because I thought that that was the only Halo thing at E3.

It looked like it was tv quality footage. Like something you would see on the sci-fi channel.

Well actually this isn't just some guy. Neil Blomkamp is slated to direct the actually Halo movie. It isn't quite in production, but Peter Jackson will not make this movie if Neil Blomkamp doesn't direct it.
