I'm struck by the theme of temperature (coldness) being essential to the Slusho secret flavor ingredient.

Combine that with the temperature being 63 degrees in NYC in January...

And recent posts linking to information about extremophiles -- organisms that can live in extreme temperature & pressure environments, under the Antarctic ice, or on the ocean floor, etc.

Did "global warming" *cough* cause some sort of hibernating parasite to, um, re-animate?

A couple of other factors related to this theme of temperature:

The object that appears in the donkey's thought bubble is an oven mitt. What's an oven-mitt for? To protect you from harm due to high temperatures.

Another recurring idea in the Slusho history is this business about consumption: "You Can't Drink Just Six!!!" (TM), and the allusion to Noriko drinking "endless amounts of beverages", and later, Ganu drinking "lots and lots" of the secret ingredient, and finally, the history site's encouragement that "you want to drink huge amounts of SLUSHO!".

I think there's likely to be a morality tale subtext about excessive consumption underlying whatever the basic plot turns out to be.

FYI

Had to share this for the fuel...

Last night I rented Night At The Museum on PPV again (loved that movie)...and was busy on here but I turned to look back at the tv at just the right moment when the news reports were coming about the MONH and these creatures traipsing across NY, and is this a PR thing from the museum - that scene - and the reporter is reporting from NY 1 newsroom.

There's the same little box there and it says NY1.

There was no tempterature shown, just NY1 in the same blue box. If you recall, for you who saw the flick, it's covered in snow outside, clearly winter, but I don't remember or know if it's mentioned in the movie which month it was supposed to be - but it's snow covered up the wazoo and there's no temp showing on the NY1 box.

If it's nice enough outside for me to wear a strappy dress, I don't care what the specific temp is. If it's covered in snow, I want an hourly update Razz

Maybe a little browsing of NY1 reports to see if they always show temps or sometimes show it, or show it when it's relevant to something might clear it up. The temp shown isn't unreasonable for anywhere that isn't constantly frigid - it really is the middle ground temp...and it's comfortable. Not "warm" and not cold. I don't live in NY so I don't know either way about their averages, but in context of the movie trailer, it would be interesting to know if the temp shown is normal for NY1 to show anyway.

Just because the movie's CALLED "1-18-08" and scheduled to come out 1-18-08, that doesn't mean it HAPPENED in January.

No, I don't buy the fact that the pictures are dated as such... They have to pick *some* date to define a chain of events, and it makes no sense for a camera to datestamp the time only.

Reporter Kirk Montgomery learned exclusively on Friday from a secret source, who is on the set of the film every day, that it is not a sequel or a remake (which precludes King Kong or Godzilla). It is not Voltron or "Lost"-related.

From: http://www.9news.com/life/entertainment/article.aspx?storyid=73653

Someone mentioned this in the big thread.

Now, this is completely unsubstantiated, so probably should not be taken seriously, but I've started getting a guy I work with into this thing, too, and he told his brother about it, who *supposedly* has a friend who is working on the set. I have no idea which set (LA/NY), what his name is, or anything else. But this mystery person told my coworker's brother that even he has not been told directly what the movie is about, but that he's heard rumors around the site that it is a "Rampage" movie.

I had no clue what Rampage was, so I looked it up. If this movie turns out to be Rampage I will eat my hat. Here's their site:

http://rampagegame.com/

I know I'm not the first one to throw the Rampage theory out there, but I felt obligated to let everyone know that info, however ridiculous it may turn out to be.

(C'mon, a giant werewolf?)

No, we're all thinking it happens on 1-18-08 because of the timestamps on the pictures from 1-18-08.com

**edit**

Ok, next time I read the full text of your post. My bad.

I don't think that's a very strong argument. The filmmakers are intentional in choices like that -- I'm sure that if they datestamped them that way, that's when they intend for us to think the events happened.

I just wanted to put my two cents in about the SOL head.

Now plenty of people are doing real world investigations of where the SOL head would have to travel to be in that part of NY during the trailer. I'm gonna take the "it's a movie" stance on that and say the SOL head being there is just symbolic. The statue of liberty is something we can all recognize and is a stead fast symbol in our culture. The fact that it was ripped down and thrown at the camera is just for the shock factor of seeing something we all know and love get destroyed. It solidifies how much of a threat this monster is.

I think there's some truth to what you're saying. Especially when you factor in that the SOL head in the teaser is, unquestionably, NOT a full scale replica; it's significantly smaller than the head of the actual SOL.

Is it?

The SOL head isn't as big as most folks think it is. From chin to top of the head it's about 20' tall and about 10' wide. The SOL head we saw in the trailer seems right about that size.

I'm guessing that the street is wide enough to accommodate cars parked on either side, with just enough room for two small cars to pass each other, maybe. If it's a one-way street, it'll be large enough for off-street parking on both sides and a school bus to pass down (which is the basic standard, so far as I know) Let's call the street 30' wide.

Well, I believe you're right. You have no idea how happy I am to find out I was wrong in my presumption (as I didn't want the teaser's sense of realism undermined by that one crucial element).

I thought it looked odd, too, so I went and looked up the dimensions a couple of days ago. It really surprised me because I've always thought it was a hell of a lot bigger.

Two monsters?

Has anyone thought there's actually more than one monster? The first roar in the party sounds very different from the roar from the explosion. Also, how the power flickers, and the shaking when it roars, but nothing like that happens again when it/they roar. It even sounds like two roars when the explosion goes off. So, what made the first roar shake everything so much, and flicker the power, when the 2nd and consecutive roars didn't seem to do the same, from what we can see.

Could be a lot more to the head of the Statue of Liberty as well. Whatever monster it was, decided to stop at the statue, and tear its head off and take it with it. Even small things, from the way the head was torn off, from behind looks like. Then decides to throw the head at random through a cloud of smoke, or maybe AT something? Who knows, it could be some evil monster from a country that hates America.
