no more clues... yet?

Most games/hunts for information on the internet of this scale i think would have turned up more if there was more to find. i mean we have to have at least 1000-5000 ppl looking for clues on what exactly this movie is about. So far only 2 websites in 12 days with this many ppl looking tells me one of two things.

1.) There is no more to find b/c they have yet to let us have access to it. No more sites no more photos untill they release them to us.

2.) There is a mastermind behind this who has planned all of this in advance and waits for us to find it all. Which means more then likely the clues are so vague and cryptic that we'd have better luck just typing in random web addresses in to our internet browsers.

I think opition one is the case. They have to stretch this game for the next 6 months an it would be too likely that someone on the inside spills the beans, or someone just gets really lucky and uncovers the truth, if this was all planned laid out for us to find. So it looks like we just have sit back and wait for new photos and clues to be dropped for us to find that will lead us to the truth... just my two cent on the matter anyway.

That makes much sense.....and I've tried keeping that firmly in mind.

However

It's JJ Abrams.

I was generally familiar with who that is from Lost, but I never followed Lost. I was aware from here there was a Lost game going on. I checked out a few things but I'd missed a whole season on it to feel I could jump in and catch up. I was aware of Alias and Felicity. After the trailer, I would go on to learn more about him and how he goes about things, from reading the slew of articles on him regarding the trailer. I checked out You Tube for videos of him prior to the release of the trailer, just seeing if anything was mentioned.

What I have learned from more than one source on Abrams, as well as hearing him say it himself, is that "everything is relevant" - if it's there, it's supposed to be there. Now I get that in common sense terms, it's a duh point. It's got more pull to it inside a game of some sort. The one I recall most of all is from Abrams himself in an interview when he said he prefers to make characters who are on the verge of a personal revelation and then watching how they evolve from it, the changes and such. On one video of him on the Jimmy Kimmel show, he was asked about the rabbit's foot and basically he waved that off as it means whatever you need it to mean, what you're afraid of. It was referenced in Lost tho, unless I heard wrong....but then last night I watched MI3 and I see the reference to H Kelvin on the post card, I see the Alias esque (slusho) scene with Ethan and the guy in the 7-11, and I see the Thanks to the Hanso Foundation in the credit....and the whole flick was chasing the rabbit's foot.

That told me that he tends to go with the nods or cross references between his movies....and initially I thought maybe that's all the slusho tshirt was about...just another nod, same as the H Kelvin in the whois.

But the slusho site was created last month.

The Transformers trailer came out last year which contained the url for sector seven and the password...and that launched the game. It was on into this year before the "commercial" trailers for the movie were shown, and then those were more aligned with actual footage from the movie. In the original trailer, several of those shots were never in the flick.

He seems well familiar with putting one of these games on the table. The timing of the trailer and the suggestions it's not ready yet would nearly go against everything he's really known to be doing and have done. And in the email to AICN, he is quoted as having stated clearly that they already had stuff out there for people to find.

All these are what pulls me over the line to "it's there and it's ready as it is"....but it' slike 60/40. Heh. I just can't see him doing all this before he was ready to launch it. It *was* launched with the mystery trailer. Both sites were already online and waiting. If it wasn't ready, they could've just as easily had it offline until the release of the new trailer in August.

What I feel really strongly is there is a missing link somewhere between slusho and 1-18...and without that, we won't be able to bridge the two in game beyond tshirt guy.

I also feel like it's page 3 of history that is the red flag area, and as it happens, that's the page with the gist of the slusho history itself on it. We got names, we got location, we got story. Whether there is also a puzzle there hidden in words or letters or cups I don't even begin to know - that's out of my league. But I feel that when it all comes out in the wash, page 3 will have had far more relevance than it's been examined so far.

I think we might have skipped a phase and went directly to Slusho. This probably means that we don't know what to look for. If we find this "missing link" that tinag talks about, we'll be able to unlock the Slusho website. But...

...WHAT THE HELL IS THE MISSING LINK?!?! Bang Head

Maybe nothing?

Wanted to put Ryouta Yoshida through an anagram machine. I omitted the letters D,O,T, for the possible . in the URL. I'm sifting through the results, but the weird thing is it found EXACTLY 163 possibilities... Weird.

EDIT: Sorry, put this in the wrong thread. Confused

Yea that's a coincidence. I think it'd take you a very very long time to take a number like 163 and find a string that was also a name that had exactly that number of anagrams.

Totally uncorroborated of course, but here's my thought- Rob got some sort of an IT job with Slusho. Meaning of course our main dude would have webmail/FTP access. The password could possibly be somewhere in his apartment, on the refrigerator, in graffiti, or on a license plate. Maybe some possible user names to try would be:

rob
robert
satoshi
slusho
admin
guest
user

And passwords:

abz3293
slusho
mysteryst
yourlifehasmeaning

...and so on. I'm going to play around with it a bit. Remember, this is a $30 MILLION operation. $30 million operations don't "accidentally" leave webmail setup on their server, or keep FTP services open. $30 million operations have content services that take care of things like that on much higher levels. IMO, the webmail and FTP logins are in-game.

I agree 100%.... i've lurked a lot of ARGs and there are patterns.
1) When there's an e-mail address with an automated response, you're added to a mailing list. Why do they give us an e-mail address if WE aren't going to get anything beneficial out of it? THEY are going to use it. same thing with the webmail. Million dollar operations don't miss things like open ports.
2) When there's a login prompt you'll need a name and password. ftp.slusho.com gives you a login prompt. Thus we need a name and password. Having not actively played many ARGs, I'm not familiar with login error messages but "Please tell me who you are" seems pretty customized to me! ESPECIALLY the lack of a period at the end of the sentence. that'd mean that the FTP had to get past **2** error checkers. 2 corporations let the period slip by. 1 when they made the server program they didn't think to put a period on it, and 2 when they installed the server they didn't disable FTP. Unless i'm just off my rocker or reading too much into something...

Guys, keep stuff like this in the big thread. It's what it's there for. We dont need speculation discussion in here.

In keeping with the topic of this thread - My thoughts

How I define the game play.

Alternate Reality = fictional world, no matter what the medium - book, video, tv or film, or on the internet. Characters within this world believe their world is real (see "This is not a game", i.e. TINAG) and any interaction by players with these characters supports that supposition.

ARG - an Alternate Reality GAME is where character interaction can be both automatic responses and personalized, where the players "hunt" (usually solving puzzles/codes/ciphers) for the next chapter in the story, but have some affect on the direction, twists and turns in the plot, and even sometimes the ending, depending on the interaction with the characters.

ARE - an Alternate Reality Experience is when character interaction is automatic responses only. There is still puzzle solving to find the next chapter, but the players have NO affect on the direction, the path, nor the ending. The story is set in stone. Like a puzzle trail that has a story.

Space's term Chaotic Fiction - an Alternate Reality in which the players interact with the characters to create the story as it goes, not really about puzzle solving to find the next chapter, but more about the next chapter is based on interaction between characters and players.

Extended Reality - the viral type marketing where the internet is being used to promote a commercial product (item, tv, movie, book, etc) that includes websites that may or may not appear to have interactive elements but there is NO effect by the players on the true property. There might be player generated content utilized on the internet to help players feel ownership and partnership, but it doesn't affect the product (as a recent example, think Heroes - the interaction was automatic response, the outcome predetermined by the authors, etc). This is being utilized more and more as an advertising medium (Save My Husband) or extension of art (Year Zero) or a means to show a back story to a tv show (Lost Experience). It's also a great way for these folks to harvest emails, track public interest, and generate advertising revenue with product placement.
