Well, it may be a possibilty that the monster does not come ffrom the water but perhaps space? I mean what with the Earthquake and all!! I don't really see how a giant monster walking to shore from the sea could cause an Earthquake and a power outtage!!!

By the same logic, I cannot believe that a colossal monster could sneak up on New York City (unless it was growing inside the SOL - but... how? why?!).

Damn those French bastards!!

I actually really like the idea of the SOL being a "cocoon" of sorts. Makes sense... the head being removed... the claw marks as it climbs out... pissed about pollution... chucks the head... I LIKE the idea.

News Helicopters VS. Military Gun Ships

They look like Apaches yes?

My point was the only video of the incident can't just be this one guy's camera he had at a party.

They might not have been bona-fide "earthquakes" but just impact tremors from the things massive foot-steps (ala Jurassic Park). And, the power-outage - maybe it damaged some underwater power cables during it's approach..? Besides, the lights don't actually go out - they just flicker (even when they're out in the street watching Lady Liberty do her Greatest American Hero impression - Smile - NYC still has power).

And, tygr20, I think you've got it - it's the result of a long-term plan by the French... they activated their 'fail-safe' monster in response to "Freedom Fries." Laughing

Slusho_Zoom! - I think that's got to be right. No way theirs was the only video footage.

NY1 is on the story...

before they even get onto the roof.

They would be mobilizing remote camera crews to get to the scene.

I'm not sure if NY1 has helicopters though. But the other local networks do.

what evidence points to the need for us to believe that there are 3 monsters?

The Evidence is that one of the nicknames of the movie is Cloverfield and a Clover has 3 leaves. that is why I suppose that they are three monsters

Also...

The city has traffic cameras set up all over the city.

http://www.nyc.gov/html/dot/html/motorist/atis.html

it would be cool if they integrated them in some way.

But, wasn't "it's alive! it's huge!" supposed to be some kind of big clue about the monster? (other than the obvious, that, y'know.. it's alive, and... it's huge). If that's true, and if there are more than 1 monster, shouldn't the big clue have been "they're alive! they're huge!"??

Interesting... I guess there was a time gap in the trailer? First roar... everyone chills for a while... turn on the news- they're reporting... hell breaks loose. Could this mean something?

The trailer is not straight from the camera...

I think the trailer would be edited down from the "straight from the cam" video.

There could be 20-30 minutes of video before the first roar. 5 before anyone turns on the TV. 10 more minutes before they go to the roof. Who knows.

Thatīs true... would be unlikely that Robīs video is the only footage thatīs not destroyed in the attack..

But there is another thing I have been thinking about:
How do you think that the film will unfold..? I think they have two choices:

a) the actual movie will take place as the attack on New York unfolds - everthing will be told from 'the eye' (or perspective) of the person filming the event with his camera. - the movie (in theaters) will only consist of footage from 1-18 (the night of the attack) from a single cameras perspective (no extra footage or cuts..)
This depends on the premiere of the movie - if itīs on the 18īth of January that the film opens in theaters, then the movie will be a sort of "live" event of the attack.

b) post-attack with news-coverage and footage shown of the events as seen by the people with camcorders. If this is the case, then theyīll be able use various clips and cut in scenes.. but then the movie will have to open in the theaters after the 18īth..

.. or perhaps the movie will be some sort of television news emergency broadcast..

If think the above options is important to consider, if the ENTIRE movie is recorded with handheld cameras (or home-camcorders) -

I donīt know if any of you understand what Iīm saying or if it makes any sense, but I just couldnīt help but wonder - the movie depends on the first-person perspective or the third-person perspective

Just a quick question: what does "ARG" stand for...?

Based on the trailer and the pics from 1-18-08.com, we can put the following time-frame together...

In the trailer, when Beth says "Rob, have fun in Japan" (just after blondie says "Rob's awesome"), you can see a clock behind her (to the right of her head, over a door in the background) - it looks to be about 11:15 p.m.

The shot pic is 12:01, and then the Jamie/Hud/Rob pic is 12:04.

The newscast is 12:32.

The closeup pic of the two girls (Lily and LenaDia?) is 12:36.

So, it seems like they couldn't have spent much time on the roof (in fact, did they all sprint up there?!)

P.S. - Henrik: ARG means "Alternate Reality Game," i.e., internet-based game w/fake websites, etc.
