i'm seriously beginning to think its that big tall bald guy "bull" from night court.

actually I think it's an alien that was originally non hostile, it came to earth to store its babies in a safe location, under the massive presure and deep freeze of the ocean, but Ganu and his pals find said unhatched babies not recognizing them as a lifeform, not even realizing they are alive, and start eating them, momma comes back to find this horror and goes on a major rampage, following the scent of her babies along the slusho delivery import route to new york. it's roaring in pain ad disgust, and when it comes towards our shores, at first it thinks the liberty statue is a person and it rips her head off at tosses it like a football 2 miles into manhattan where wham! it hits the 401 building.

Okay, but in the story the sea creature contacts Ganu in his dreams and tells him to put the special ingrediant in Slusho so they can become whales themselves.

Doesn't really jive. You're kinda selectively ignoring parts.

bah!! The dream was telepathically implanted by enemies of the poppler empire. Take that!

Or perhaps the sea creatures brain patterns were incompatible, and they sensed him nearby and tried to communicate telepathically to keep them in the cold, but because of the language barrier and incompatible brain patterns, he didn't get the message instantly like he should have, and when he fell asleep the information transmited to his brain's declarative memory created that dream.

Roight... Cool

It's also possible that Slusho! and its history plays no direct role whatsoever in the movie, that it's just a silly item that people mention, have shirts with, etc. Like the Apollo Candy bars. There will probably be someone marketing Slusho! drinks by the end of the summer with additional clues/codes.

I think it would be a bit weird for the movie to be based on the evils of slushees. It may be that we're overlooking the real clues at the site by missing some coded reading. Personally, I tend to think the slusho history itself is not as important as the clues about something found in the deep sea. Bloop!

You could be right, but that would make the whole thing pointless and kinda unfair. Plus, I don't think it would be a movie about evil slushy drinks - they're just a vector for unknowable evil from the crushing black depths. The fact that people got infected by means of frosty beverages might only be something folks who have followed the movie closely would know about. So yeah - the Bloop and the story being true aren't mutually exclusive.

From J.J's previous works I think we will not even find out what "it" is, even in the film. Looking at things like Mission imposable 3's Rabbits foot and pretty much all of Lost we know he likes to keep things from the audience

it seems like we are over complicating the whole monster thing too much, analysing this and that. what if it is something that is already in new york, something that is seen everyday but is inanimate, which would explain the line"it's alive" but has also grown very big. possibly something male due to the line on slusho "he is very big" but doesn't necesserally have a name that everyone knows. "i've seen it"
anything fit the bill in new york that could be that.
i'm just going along the lines of the biggest clue the we 'know' is a clue is that line in the trailer, "i've seen it, it's alive, it's huge" cos we've been told it's a clue.

maybe thats just a load of guff Wink

Glimpses Only?

Considering that the images are supposed to be captured by people in the path of the monster and trying no to get killed...

How many long lingering shots of the monster can we expect? Realistically who waits for a giant terrifying monster to get close before you turn tail and run?

Monsters you don't see are much more terrifying than the ones you do.

Thats the grand-daddy of giant monster movies, it inspired Godzilla. Your post also reminded me of another old monster movie called "Them", a man comes aross a small desert town completely destroyed. When he asked who did this the only survivor (a small girl) could only say "Them." You didnt even see the monster till most of the way through. It would be cool if Cloverfield followed this design. And for those curious to know what the monster was see below.

Spoiler (Rollover to View):
giant ants mutated from a-bomb tests in the desert

Hi, yes, um, if all those posters are in alphabetical order at the store, and comes after TRANSFORMERS and before THIRTY DAYS OF NIGHT, or other way around depending on the stores layout, we are saying that the movie is a T titled movie?

Ok, I went with that idea, and looked for a monster starting with the letter t, and found this...not only with a t, but from Japan as well...

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tengu

The Tengu. "Tengu (天狗, Tengu? "heavenly dogs") are a class of supernatural creatures found in Japanese folklore. Although they take their name from a dog-like Chinese demon, the tengu were originally thought to take the forms of birds of prey. It makes a noise like thunder and brings war wherever it falls. "

EDIT: Nevermind. Just saw the new high res picks of the poster. Definatly a trail in the water leading to the city. Wouldn't be a flying monster then.

Ok, so somewhere the other day I read a discussion about the trailer and how a voice speaks just before the first roar (I can't seem to find it among the thousands of messages, if someone can point me in that direction, thanks!).

With that said, there is definitely a female voice that says something just before the first roar. Having listened to it over and over, I can't see how anyone is able to not hear it. The more I have listened to it, I think it sounds like she is saying "The Wind".

Now, I didn't pay much attention to the whole earth, wind, water three monster theory that tied into the slusho page, but maybe there is something to it. Maybe there are multiple monsters and "The Wind", whatever aerial monster was the first to arrive.

Just a thought.

We aren't sure if the female voice says right before the first roar: "They Live" or "The Myth". If you do a search on those key words, then you should be able to find the posts you're looking for. HTH!

on the slusho! thread I posted a lengthy speculation, based off of crap that I followed from the slusho site. Its towards the bottom, about 6th from the last post on page 77.

http://forums.unfiction.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=20076&start=1155

Wild speculation, but thought you all might wanna read it.

I'm fairly sure this idea's been brought up. Really great idea, and good investigative work, but I still think this would foul up JJ's intent to make an original. Keep digging.
