ockam's razor, people. we don't need to expect multiple monsters when one monster is enough to do all of the damage.

as for the people surviving angle--what do you mean exactly? who survives? clearly there's a rescue crew, but from where? california? DC? texas? great britain? germany?

Well, if there was one monster, why'd it stop? The city is not fully destroyed, as seen in the poster, so why didn't the monster just destroy all the city? If there isn't another "good" monster, then what happened? Personally, I think the movie would suck if the military killed it during its rampage. That reeks of the American Godzilla movie. And what other ideas can you come up with that explain the monster stopping?

And, on people surviving, I actually think I explained it in the last paragraph, as the city survives the attack from what the poster shows.

Also, to support this, is the motive for the monster to throw the SOL's head. Why would the monster just randomly throw it unless it had a target? Perhaps *gasp* another monster?

Also, as this seems like the right thread, G4 said the monster will be Cthulhu, but, then remember, this is G4. Not exactly the most reliable news outlet out there.

Actually, Hoochie, I'm female. And I was attemting to use your sarcasm to prove a point about the general state of the entire forum. I guess my point wasn't very well made. My apologies.

Umm, using that link you provided, it says that the deepest part of the ocean (Marianas Trench) is 35,839 feet, which converts to about 6.79 miles. That's still a lot less than 20 miles, though. (The 1.25 miles thing comes from if you were to stick Mount Everest into the trench, the mountain would still be covered by over 1.25 miles of water.)

You are both correct; it's a typo. Meant to write 2 miles, not 20--didn't even notice the mistake. SO, it's still pretty deep...

Lovecraft influenced, perhaps--but what horror/fantasy director isn't?

Cthulhu, definitely not. Cthulhu, once properly awakened could destroy all of NY with a burb and drive everyone insane with a mere glance. He's basically a god (though that's not entirely clear) and immortal, so there's no killing him. He was only injured in Call of Cthulhu and just went back to sleep (after magically healing himself) because the stars were not right. Forget the Cthulhu stuff. I'm now thinking more along the lines of as quetzalcoatl-type thing. Not that god itself, but something mesoamerican influenced or the like. JJA was emphasizing an that this was an American monster.

The movie from 1966 about a computer? Although a Colossus would be cool, maybe that's why it ripped the head of the SOL off? Wanted to Say he was the new statue in town.

No.
Colossus is being directed by Ron Howard. Imagine Entertainment and Universal Studios are behind this one.

"It"

whatever "it" is I think it is safe to say it is really really tall to be able to reach to head of the SOL and then walk across the bay and leave the wake that "it" leaves and I don't think it would be a flying creature because a flying creature wouldn't leave wake across the bay and it most likely doesn't swim because how could something that lives underwater reach the head of the SOL so I say it is going to be something that walks like godzilla does

Godzilla lived under the water. It's not Godzilla, of course, but there's plenty of movie monsters that go in and out of the water.

Easy. It climbs out of the water up the statue onto the head. We see the claw marks, it was obviously clawing its way up the back of the statue at one point.
Has to be underwater, that's the only way that it would leave a wake.
