No Copyright Infringement – No images, content, domain names or other proprietary information can be taken from The Golden Jigsaw website (www.goldenjigsaw.com) or any participating websites. The Golden Jigsaw & it's advertisers are protected by international copyright laws and can be actioned in any territory.

This is, um, laughable.

Can I copyright my domain name?
Copyright law does not protect domain names. The Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN), a nonprofit organization that has assumed the responsibility for domain name system management, administers the assignation of domain names through accredited registers.

Although what you quoted is from US law, it's pretty valid in the UK as well. If they had mentioned trademarks (you can trademark the term in a domain) then I would have had more respect for their interpretation for the law, but so far, they are getting things wrong. Including not stating what jurisdiction they are operating in - I'm guessing it's English law?

 Another reply from GJ

This is the clarification reply from Golden Jigsaw relating to my mail to them posted earlier:

Quote:
In response to your queries about playing as a team and so on, I will attempt to clarify things as follows:

1. How the Terms & Conditions affect 'Team' Play:

Private conversations about playing The Golden Jigsaw between friends & colleagues are perfectly OK.

The moment those discussions become public in any way, they are in breach of the rules and the player(s) responsible for this would be ineligible to win.

If players are playing The Golden Jigsaw as part of a 'team', I would advise that they exercise extreme caution and ensure that they are not responsible for breaching the rules in any way, since there is a lot of money at stake here and one can never be too sure of the motives of other players.

If a player wishes to risk sending instant messages, emails or any other form of public communication containing links in whole or in part to clues, websites or the locations of pieces & another player or individual sends us proof of these communications, the player responsible for said communication(s) will be considered in breach of the rules & deemed ineligible to win.

2. Existing Information in the Public Domain

I would suggest that if a player is aware of anything they might be responsible for which is in the public domain that does go against the terms & conditions and could affect their eligibility to win, which were clarified for the purposes of simplicity by the guidelines I supplied you with yesterday, this information be removed for their own protection, because, regardless of when published, the ability for this information to be viewed on any occasion throughout the game's future could also be deemed as a contravention of the rules, in accordance with the points raised above

To reiterate, If we are provided with proof of any rule breaches, we will be forced to act accordingly.

I have had another conversation about this which will have great relevance here as well, and that is to say that certain players have commented that at the moment, the pieces are not as important as, say, the 500th piece, where things, according to their opinions, 'get serious' and our actions ought to be altered in accordance with their perceptions of this ongoing growth in the importance of the pieces.

You have to bear in mind here that every piece of the puzzle is covered by the terms and conditions, whether that be piece 1 or piece 1000 & the reason for that is we have to uphold the fairness of the game for all players, whether they joined prior to piece 1 going out, or any point thereafter, including future players, yet to join our ranks at the time of writing this email.

So therefore, any information pertaining to the location of, clues to, or website URLs in whole or part containing clues and/or piece locations which can be copied and submitted to us by any player or individual as proof of direct rule violations should be treated the same, whether piece 1 or piece 100 or any other part of The Golden Jigsaw puzzle.

To sum that up: If you publish something on the web or in any public communications that gives away the direct locations of pieces, direct clues and so on, you run the risk of somebody else actually using it against you to put you out of the game, so be careful.

I hope this clears things up and you can get back to enjoying the game.

For your information, We have a burgeoning online player community at The Golden Jigsaw Forums: http://goldenjigsaw.perplexorum.com which serve as the place to go to interact with other players and see just what people are actually able to say to each other, without actually breaking the rules! It also serves as a great example of what fun and enjoyment you can have as part of The Golden Jigsaw community when you join us.

Best regards,

Don Campbell

Basically on reading this IF you post a direct link or solved clue in public place and it can be proved to be posted by you as a player then you are in breach of their rules and could be disqualified from winning the prize.

So to be safe IF you are a poster of spoilers that give things away to directly then just make sure that you do not use the same username on the forum you post as and if at all possible use a different email address to play the game as is registered to your forum profile.

I don't think at this sage in the game people would really be that anally retentive as to complain about forums or people posting in the way as the GJ stated they had but later in the game wen th stakes are raised it would not surprise me for peoples attitudes to change and try and remove the competition.

To sum up, don't post publicly direct links to the solved anagrams or to the pieces directly and don't post requesting that information, private messages between players is acceptable though.

If you get deleted as a player for being a member of a forum where it's members have posted that information then legally they would have to prove that you actually read them posts before they could act against you in that way and if they act and can not prove it then you could take legal action against them as their actions would constitute an illegal action in breach of their own rules.

Just to be safe if posting in public and you want to be helpful to others use subtle clues or use private messages for direct solutions.

Please note that I am only posting this as a member of this forum and as a player of the game and the information is ONLY for your information, it is in no way an instruction or a rule of this forum but I would hate to see someone here be lucky enough to win the prize only to be shot down by a post they made on here for clue 1 way back when the game started.

Have fun and enjoy clue 11

Why would you be STUPID enough to give clues away?
Why would you be STUPID enough to give clues away?

Why oh why are you so intent on giving away clues?

Only a d**k would do that! Then go on to make a holy crusade out of it and try to trip up the game-makers by questioning their ethics and their understanding of the internet in an effort to make yourself look big!?!

The only one that looks daft here is you mate!

Dunno who you're making reference to (I'm assuming me, since I was the last post) but I guess everyone is entitled to their opinions. Question was asked, I answered -- guess helpfulness=dickishness these days. Rolling Eyes

Point of order.

The esteemed gentleperson from... Nowhere has lodged accusations of "d**kishness", which encompasses a much larger sphere.

If if is determined that the term meant was "dork", the Marquis of Queensbury Rules will be consulted and appropriate rebuttals should be made at such time.

A subtle clue if you need it

Spoiler (Rollover to View):
anyone struggling on this one just needs to think about yesterdays site and go and see its mum and dad

As for the pieces it's yet another word play game in store, I don't like these ones as much as the product ones LOL

considering it's for $1M, I'm certain the organizers will 'learn' strategies players use to solve the riddles, and they'll get harder and harder as time goes on. My initial 'strategy' is now useless with the new format Razz (but I'm still fully caught up with all the pieces so far)

There are no similarities, as far as I can tell, except that the __.__ clues generally turn out to be co.uk. The clues are mostly anagrams -- jumbled letters -- that lead to different parts of the sponsor web sites.
