And when the company behind the Golden Jigsaw pulls the plug because it's pointless having a "treasure hunt" when all the treasure is piled up in the same place for all to see, who is going to lose out ?
Well somebody won't be winning the $1million will they ?

PerplexCity was a treasure hunt which had a £100,000 prize. The players of that game were very much involved on this site, and it gave rise to Perplexorum. Both sites were full of collaborative effort, and Mind Candy, the creators of the game, didn't try to gag the players, morever they actively encouraged the collective approach.

Now I realise that GJ is a different type of game, with a different end, but the 'gagging order' that has been placed on players will, I believe, only put people off. People like to work things out and share things. I'm not saying that the first person to get the location of a piece should always post the url, but that GJ should relax a little and allow some low level collaboration. Then its starts to feel more like a community thing which is fun, and people will talk about it and tell their friends, rather than a greedy/selfish everyone for themselves scrabble which is less so. And yes, I fully expect that when it comes to the last few pieces people will be more careful with their clues, I guess that's only human nature.

The woods were full of people looking for the cube. But only Random found it. And though we may have wished it was us, there was not (i'm sure of it) one of us that thought anything other than well done. After all, he got there with the help of the community.

A game like GJ that is totally internet based comes along and suddenly thinks it can police the whole web and control who puts what and where, they must be either crazy or very arrogant if they think they can pull that off for the lifetime of the game, either that or they have a cash flow that allows them to employ 500 people 24/7 to monitor what gets posted where and by who and back track that to see if it was posted by one of their players.

The rules seem to be very draconian for such a so called new concept and the ways round them seem to be plentiful.

I think what they need to do is chill out and just appreciate the fact that if the game is getting publicity of any sort then it is a good thing as without players in large numbers they wont be selling any of their pieces and I am sure if potential buyers contact previous sites that held pieces they would get a rough idea of how much potential passing trade they might pick up and I would guess a this time that spending money on google adwords is a better way of getting money in for money spent on gimmicks.

It's a game and it should not be taken to seriously, well not at least for another 970 pieces, and lets face it this will probably be won by some geek that starts playing in the last week of the game and just visits the whole list of sites that will be available on the web by then and collects the all the pieces in one session.

Just have fun with it and if you do get your profile on the game deleted just create another one with a different address and start again you don't have to find the pieces again as they are already on your PC.

All the best

Are you of SUCH low intelligence that you cannot understand what GJ is saying to you?

They are NOT TRYING to POLICE THE INTERNET they are getting you to do exactly what they want by stirring you up AND YOU'VE LET THEM!!!

What does GJ need for the good of their game and the awareness of their advertisers? MORE COVERAGE, more links, more visibility.

Are you honestly, any of you, really so dim that you don't get that YOU'RE BEING PLAYED & YOU'RE THE ONES ROLLING OVER Smile

They've stirred you up and you've risen to the bait - not only giving them more credence but exposing yourself as childish, self important, dim-witted morons (edit - not all of you, just the ones, well - you know the ones!), with no hope of any future kudos!!!

It's laughable, they're BL***Y GENIUSES, How smug and ignorant must you have to be not to realise that you're playing right into their hands???

IRC1968, Your actions are the most dense, you've gone and posted private emails without reading between the lines - all you've done is given rise to GJ by giving onlookers the benefit of their obviously magnificent customer service & marketing spin which you assumed was a reply.

Any advice offered by the few opinionated, self important and evidently dimwitted 'members' (very descriptive word, but i repeat, not all of you) that seek to further themselves by trying to make a negative for GJ are clearly posts which you want to avoid, or throw a soggy tomato at, if you're any way near to having half a brain, you've just done the opposite of what you've attempted to do & you look very bitter at the same time.

Jealous of GJ are we? You look it. Child.

By all means debate the companies intentions and their approach to handling the game, what they are really up to, any-publicity-is-good-publicity etc. but please don't reduce this to insulting individuals and/or members (even if it's not all of us)

Gee thanks for reiterating exactly what I just said, well what I said less the insults and show of your obvious lack of understanding of what you read.

There always has to be one that comes in to a thread and only reads a few words and decides that their opinion is the only one that counts, this is a friendly place so go take a cold refreshing shower, come back and start reading the thread from the start and then maybe you will realise that all that rubbish you just spat out a us has already been said and your just making yourself look dim by repeating the obvious.

And just for your information I happen to be one of the players that had my account on the game deleted due to posting on here so they ARE trying to police the internet and they are arrogant enough to believe the can do that without people making comments about it so I unlike you do know what I am talking about.

Now go back to where-ever you came from and close the door behind you, alternatively chill out and enjoy and contribute to a friendly happy thread on this forum.

Thank you.[/quote]

for people that are lost, I suggest reading the despoiler wiki.

Also, I think people expecting a $1,000,000 prize should look at this page which shows how few pieces have been sold.

I count 76 total out of the 1,000 they are trying to unload.

Remember the fine print: the prize is worth 1/2 of the total money they collect.

I thought that advertising a million dollar prize when you don't have the money is illegal, or at least, dishonest, misleading and downright tacky.

There are still a few unexplained items as well - for example, the rules say that the check will be "presented to the winner at an event," and also you will consent to promotional activities. It also says that these promotional activities will be "free of any payment", and doesn't address how many there are or for how long they go on.

So I am assuming the "event" will be in the UK, and since there is no payment, so I am assuming that you will have to take a trip on your own dime to the UK from the US to collect your money? Unless you can for-go the event, but it doesn't address that. Contestants should hope they win enough to collect the prize if necessary.
