self confessed standard bearers of gaming
a reply to some unqualified 'game guru' (not) rants

Not exactly got 30 days to stop releasing clue information by the looks, the Ts & Cs say 'within (30) days' which means whatever they stipulate between immediate and 30 days. They stipulated 'immediately' when they sent the mailer out so it's effective as of now.

I think it was more of a change to reflect that if someone gets pointed out as a problem, or wins the game and is linked to this 'spoiling' activity, then they can be disqualified rather than to try and 'silence' any 'spoilers'.

That's the view i got from talking to one of the support guys earlier.

They want everyone to enjoy the game, regardless of intentions, they just want it to be clear what their stand-point is so that those who want to win can do so safe in the knowledge that a 'cheater' won't steal their prize.

There is a lot of scandal in the UK about fixed phone-ins and competitions and they are evidently trying to seperate themselves from all that whilst showing their players (us) that they care a lot about the integrity of the game.

They seem to be aware that it would be futile to try and control what people say, and actually don't want to do that, as per gj_leigh's response earlier.

But that's not their point anyway, people can say what they want, just be careful how loudly and who to, oh and can't expect to win if they're linked to spoiling the game.

I actually think it's kind of funny that some of the responses have been all 'we know better than they do' and 'welcome to the internet', since we're all playing their game and perpetuating it for them for free, oh and linking to their advertisers for nothing as well - gotta help with SEO! Heh! Heh!

You have to save it to your 'C:\Program Files\The Golden Jigsaw\Golden Jigsaw Pieces' folder. You can do this by opening up the folder and dragging the picture into it. Then open up the program and the piece should be there.

I'm not playing this one so take this for what you will..
But you've all considered that the person that posted as a moderator of the game was actually a player trying to increase their chances of winning.
Right?

I consider the post by "gjleigh" to be legit.

what time does everyone get the emaiL?? i even checked their site when i woke up, and saw nothing. 2 hours later, there it was. and i'm in US.

from today's email:
Quote:
Following the masses of communications from players about the online treasure hunt, I am delighted to announce the all new format for hunting down the pieces. Naturally I'm giving nothing away, but once you've solved today's clue, you'll see the results for yourself.

What I will say is that this new format is designed to make the game more enjoyable for those who like a puzzle to solve, whilst making the game more appealing when perhaps you don't have the time or inclination to trudge through seemingly never-ending web links to find the jigsaw pieces.

Whichever, I'm confident you'll love the new format and we can't wait to roll it out across the whole competition, starting with today's site.

*** A NOTE ABOUT SITE 1 ***
The 10 pieces on the first website many of you have correctly identified have been moved to a page together, temporarily, to ease the load on their servers that the sheer number of you fantastic people shook to within an inch of it's life!

when i've solved today's clue, you'll see the results for myself?????
uh, where?

I got my e-mail in the U.S. at exactly 9:39 A.M. Central Time.

There is a new riddle to help find the puzzle piece:

The pages of this site,
are of all different types,
but you'll surely find it easy,
if you play the pipes.

I found the new riddle by clicking on the banner that says "Win a Million Dollars".

I admit I was so irritated by the post that I didn't think of this option.

As for the marketing scam and how much they will make - won't they make money from selling people's private information? And won't they be fairly sure at least some of that information will be legitimate because some people will think they have a chance to win the prize.

Like I said, the law here is confusing. They don't have to just comply with UK law - each state in the US has laws about contests. I know New York requires registration of contests or sweepstakes over a certain amount. I'm not sure how that applies to internet contests.

Anyway, I have two good friends who work in the internet division of the DA's office. I want them to take a look at this one. It just seems fishy to me. I know the designers may just be totally incompetent, but that gives it the feeling of a scam. I think this is an ugly game, I'm not playing it, and I don't want people to be taken advantage of in the hopes of some illusive million dollar prize. (do they even have the money?)

How would they police this spoiling thing anyway? How will they know where someone got their answers? They've already seem to say that it fine for people to collaborate on the game so they can't claim that people shouldn't post about it.

This is one thing I have wondered about - why the prize is advertised as a million dollars instead of a million pounds since it is a UK contest. The pieces are being sold in pounds, so is this another way of making more money? I may play for awhile and see how it goes.

Well the prize amount they are claiming seems to be misleading, as they say that the prize will only be one-half of the money they receive.

(as pointed out above in this thread by flo)

Quote:
4.8 If for any reason the prize value which is funded by advertisers is not reached, the prize value will be 50% of all monies received by Infinite Ideation Limited in respect of the Golden Jigsaw project.

Quote:

Maybe because the dollar is much lower in value than the pound? So they can make money off the exchange rate?

This also bothers me:

Quote:
4.9 In the unlikely event of two or more participants completing The Golden Jigsaw at the same time, we reserve the right to appoint an independent adjudicator to pick the winner at random from the participants affected.

Is it unlikely? I don't know how many people will end up playing this game. It doesn't seem that unlikely to me that more than one person will complete at the same time.

Well, they may couch in in those terms, but that isn't what they are doing. What they are concerned about is that players won't have to actually go to the websites and look around for the pieces because the players will know where the pieces are located. This means that the pieces are less valuable to the people paying for the privilege of having a piece in their site.

What the sweepstakes designers are worried about is their own pocket... why else would they threated to sue for financial damages? The only way players posting information will cost the designers money is if would-be purchasers of the pieces won't pay for them.

It isn't cheating to get help from online forums, especially for a game solely based on the internet. People may disagree, but that is my personal take on it.
