So it isn't the FIRST person who completes it. Much nicer community when it's a random drawing from all who have done all the legwork. So all who complete it though to the end have a fair chance.

Did anyone ever think they would really have $1 million to give out as a prize? And because the money pool has been reduced, is that going to discourage the current player base? Doubtful. You know you're addicted. Admit it

I agree with the sentiment but not the specifics. The "random" drawing will be as unsupervised as the rest of this mess. There is no way to know that they are trustworthy - I think they have proven beyond a doubt that they aren't. Someone mentioned in this thread the problems the UK has had with dishonesty in phone in games. I think a random drawing is just another way of saying, we will pick a few people to win.

Also, I think this community has been great, incredibly supportive to the other players in spite of the idiotic, unenforceable draconian rules the creators tried to slam down. The you can't talk about the game but you can give hints rule was pathetic. The 'we can change the rules without prior notice and it takes effect in 30 minutes rule' will go down in history as one of the most ridiculous rules ever. It has inspired me though -maybe we need to start an award section like the Golden Raspberries- awards for total awfulness in game design.

I never believed that they had $1 million to give as a prize. I never believed that they were going to raise it either. But, I am fairly outraged that they would scam people by advertising that as the amount they had - mentioning it was underwritten - knowing that they didn't. Yesterday the site still advertised $1 million as a prize.

These people are ripping off players, wasting their time and effort, and giving a bad name to these kind of contests. I don't think we should support them. I'm happy that unfiction and despoiler are resources for the players - but the game developers - they don't deserve anything from us.

The point isn't that no one really expected to win a million, the point is that they said that is what they were offering. And, guys, signing up for something and giving your name and address to them is a valuable price to pay. It isn't true that this game was free. It didn't cost cash upfront - but it cost time which is basically money as well as the input of your data.

Just because we are savvy enough to tell it was a doomed enterprise from the beginning doesn't excuse their behavior. These people are contemptuous of their players, they have no idea what they are doing and they really owe the players an explanation better than "it was too hard so we are making it easier." How condescending can they be?

My honest advice to the players: don't waste another minute on this. If you want to do the jigsaw as the picture is so appealing (which I think it is!), wait until the end and then go and get all the pieces. You're going to feel worse if you spend more time keeping up with them and they just implode and you never get all the pieces.

I totally agree Rose but i also feel sorry for the websites/people who paid for the pieces. They gave the money in belief that 1000's of people would visit there website and then possibly buy something. I'm sure some people did on some of the sites but now they won't get those visitors as the pieces are freely available on the GJ website !!!!!!!!!

New Rules are Up
Starting 9/20

Well, the new rules are up. Think I might take it off my computer. They are going to a new pop-up system - no e-mails at all.

Problem is I got an obnoxious advertising pop-up on my computer just to read the rules, and when I try and close it out another one pops up.

Also there will be a daily quiz after surfing if you want.

The first 100 pieces are going to still be free for people to get used to the board - the ones that we all worked so many hours on for nothing.

Edited at 1:24 P.M. -
OK it's official; I purged my computer of all Golden Jigsaw items. Decided to drop out as I don't want pop-up ads on my computer when I start it etc. I had a hard time getting all my cookies off as the computer didn't want to allow it, but finally got them all off.

Just want to say good luck to everyone else and hope you win $10,000.00. I may drop in to see how you are all doing.

Palm: did you have to install something new to get those pop-ups or did they just change what you had? I never registered so I don't know.

Also, please stick around unfiction.

Maybe you might like playing the Coveted Bottle Game?

Here is the advertiser FAQ's: http://www.goldenjigsaw.com/advertisers/pages.php?pageid=10

What I love about their bold attitude, is that they tell their "advertisers" to promote the Golden Jigsaw:

Quote:
HOW DO I MAKE THE MOST OF MY INVESTMENT?
There are many ways that you can maximise the return on your investment in the Golden Jigsaw:

The most obvious one is to publicise The Golden Jigsaw to your existing customer base with a newsletter, as this will incentivise them to become players and return to re-familiarise themselves with your site. Every participating advertiser that does this will be adding more and more players to the pool and so will share in the growing awareness potential of each other's databases.

Will anyone figure out that the Golden Jigsaw should be paying the "advertiser" to promote the Golden Jigsaw site and host their content? The best way to get more out of an investment in Golden Jigsaw is to promote their site. Wink

I really want to buy one of these pieces for despoiler. And possibly link here to our discussion of the game.

And there is this:

Quote:
All Players of the Golden Jigsaw will have to visit your site to discover the pieces they need to complete the puzzle. Additionally, you will be entitled to a free question about one of your products or services to participate in our Daily Quiz for players

Does this seem accurate to you guys? They do clarify that:

Quote:
Once a player has signed up, they can download a Golden Jigsaw Playing Board from our site. There are 100 pieces on the site already for them to download to get a feel for the game. Thereafter, every day we send them the web site addresses of sites hosting pieces.

When a player arrives at a site, they click on the Golden Jigsaw logo device on the home page and are then taken to a landing page. This page can have information about your site, your products, offers and discounts etc. It also contains a link to your first piece. If you are hosting more than one piece, there will be a link somewhere on the page the piece is on, to take them to the next piece, and so on. A final link can take them back to the landing page for added emphasis.

Once a player has found a piece, they simply drag it off the page to their Golden Jigsaw Pieces folder, and the piece is then ready to be positioned on their jig board.

So, no more puzzles? Just a direct link to the site?

Ah, found the terms:
http://www.goldenjigsaw.com/play/pages.php?pageid=3

Quote:
3.12 Links will be released at an average rate of approximately three to four per day but we reserve the right to vary these amounts if necessary.

If they give out 100 and then have 900 hundred left, at even five per day you have 180 days. This is a long term process.

Here is a good one:

Quote:
9.4 If, for any reason, the competition is not capable of operating as planned, including infection by computer viruses, bugs, tampering, unauthorized intervention, fraud, technical failures, or any other causes beyond the control of playing the game Infinite Ideation Limited do not assume any responsibility in this respect. Nor is it responsible for any corruption and anything that affects the administration, security, fairness, integrity or proper conduct of the Golden Jigsaw.

empahsis added.. So they are admitting upfront they aren't responsible if it isn't fair or properly run. Like I said, they have nerve.

and a set-up for blaming their players should things go wrong:

Quote:
9.5 Infinite Ideation Limited also reserves the right, at its sole discretion and at any time to cancel, terminate, modify or suspend the game if players are acting in a disruptive manner, or with intent to abuse, threaten or harass employees and agents of Infinite Ideation Limited or any other person.

and if you do win:

Quote:
10.1.2 The winner, or their legal representative, successors, heirs and assigns, release The Golden Jigsaw successors, subsidiaries and assigns from any and all liability associated with this competition.

So if the winner never gets paid? Isn't there more than one winner?

I hope that Perplexorum has some kind of similar protection from liability.

I didn't have to install anything new; evidently the new system will be implemented with their new programming. It appears the contestants will be give a 3-way choice on how they want their pop-ups handled. You can select to have them open automatically when you start your computer, you can select to have the pop-ups when you open your jigboard, or you can open the pop-ups manually using an alert button. It is designed to be left open.

I will still be at unfiction. I currently play the Coveted Bottle Game (even won a prize, thanks to everyone else's help).

Now that I dropped this I currently am trying to get involved in the Office game (DunderMifflinInfinity). It will be starting Sept. 27.

Good luck again.

I am not playing, but just visited this link to see how the game is going. Doesn't sound like too much fun. I guess you won't have to discuss it much here if it is that easy.

Fools Gold. The GJ expires.

I'd given up on the GJ long ago. After their dictatorial stance, arrogance and threats against anybody who might dare to share information, I just couldn't be bothered. I could see it was dying on its feet and I just didn't want to see the grizzly end. They were rapidly running out of 'advertisers' (mugs) prepared to host overpriced puzzle pieces and were resorting to ever more desperate measures to sure things up.

Then I read that they were going to put things on hold and relaunch on the 20th Sept (definitely a sign that things were going down the tubes).

In the meantime they made the first 100 pieces of the jigsaw puzzle openly available for download, giving away pieces that people had spent (wasted) many many hours chasing around obscure websites trying to locate. And this after picking a fight with the puzzling community about disclosing the whereabouts of puzzle pieces, and after causing Perplexorum Mods to run around like the proverbial fly, editing any posts that remotely suggested a puzzle piece's location. Truly words fail me.

Note, I haven't mentioned sharp practices, rule changes, dubious jackpots and all the other things that rose has outlined so well in this thread.

Now, after the relaunch, it appears that they are simply posting the location of the puzzle pieces, no (tedious) anagram, no on-site treasure hunt. Not that I could be bothered anyway.
There it is, copy and paste, job done. But...? eh? what?

We have just seen what I originally thought was a really good idea crash and burn. Don't just take my word for it. To see what one of the Mods on Perplexorum has to say click here . I think the word 'retired' says it all.

Over and Out.
