[META][REF] 1-18-08 Cross Reference Clues
A JJ Abrams Modus Operandi Production....

Since Abrams tends to cross reference between works, and this has been confirmed to have been done with regard to the 1-18 movie, the question arises as to whether it is a simple PM nod in Hitchcockian fashion, or if his cross references are actually involved as clues.

1-18-08 WHOIS information:

If you run a WHOIS on the www.1-18-08.com domain, you get this:

The original hook, however, wasn't the Abrams cross reference, but the direct link to Transformers' Sector Seven ARG. The WHOIS for the domain www.sectoseven.org is this:

That both list Albert Pike was the clue there was ARGishness going on...and a strong nod that the ones who had put together the Transformers ARG (game) Sector Seven, or S7, are behind the 1-18-08 site....suggesting that there is another ARG attached. Further, this points back to Stephen Spielberg, who was executive producer for the Transformers movie....and it was Spielberg that was behind the "grandfather of all ARGS" years back, called The Beast, which was a branch game from his movie, AI.

The cross reference comes in 2nd, and is what links 1-18 to Abrams' unnamed movie, or Abrams, period:

Henry Kelvin registered 1-18 site.

The first known cross reference is that in Abrams' Lost series are two characters: a Henry and a Kelvin.

However, I picked up another one 2 nights ago when I finally sat down and watched Mission Impossible 3 (another Abrams work). Early in the movie, Ethan picks up a postcard from the agent he recently "lost" and on the back of the card is printed:

H Kelvin
4306 Durham blvd it looks like
Box 56
Norfolk Va 23510

Slusho!

The next, and directly in game cross references is shown in the trailer. There is a small group of the partiers gathered around the tv watching a breaking news report about whatever is going on outside. One of the guys turns toward the camera and asks, "Think we can see something from the roof?" and then moves toward the camera to go to the roof. In this shot, you can see he is wearing a tshirt under an open button up shirt. On the tshirt is a big blue cup and in blue block letters: SLUSHO!

The logo is visible but is not specifically focused on, another stong hint as to the clues MO.

It is a cross reference to another Abrams show, Alias, starring Jennifer Garner. In one episode that aired last year, Sydney is in a convenience store talking to Vaugn about the assignment, and he casually offers her a Slusho since he's making one for himself.

Reference link to the scene on YouTube is here:

Alias and Slusho

Incidentally, the scene is cross referenced again in Mission Impossible 3, when Ethan is likewise in the convenience store picking up his assignment.

So far, it's been the Slusho! reference that revealed a 2nd website directly related to 1-18-08.com - in game:

www.slusho.com, which resolves to www.slusho.jp - a site in both English and Japanese, which is a nod back to the strong Asian element depicted in the trailer, as well as the specific mention that Rob is going away to Japan.

Given this, and his friend is wearing the slusho shirt, the common sense connection is made.

It has been suggested that the shirt logo is just another "nod" cross reference and has no real relevance as part of a game. This suggestion is in the minority, with the evidence against it.

The Slusho! icee drink is fiction. It's not a real slurpee drink either in Japan or here. The drink was briefly mentioned in an episode that aired last year on tv.

There is simply zero reason for a fictional drink to have a website - that was created in May of THIS year, just a little over a month before the release of the Abrams trailer, OR a tshirt, in which Slusho makes yet a 2nd cameo.

There is more evidence than this, but this is relevant to the cross reference.

And finally, the Hanso Foundation is an entity found in the ARG game, The Lost Experience...for the Abrams show Lost.

At the end of the credits for Mission Impossible 3, during the final "thank you" list, The Hanso Foundation is the last name on the credit list....which had nothing at all to do with the plot itself of MI3. Neither did H. Kelvin play any role in MI3 outside the name on the postcard.

Finally, so far, it has been confirmed from the Abrams camp, as well as from documented photo evidence of flyers placed around LA for a film shoot being referred to as "slusho" that there is more than a simple nod to a fictional drink in Alias. One of the project titles for the movie is slusho.

So far that's what we got. More in this thread as they are discovered.

Cloverfield

Forgot this one...

The phone numbers shown in the WHOIS for both sites resolve to the Santa Monica airport. In California...which immediately falsifies both the NY and VA addresses provided for the admins on either site.

Cloverfield is the main working title for the Abrams movie.

As it happens, curiously, the Santa Monica airport was formerly called Clover Field:

Quote:
Originally called Clover Field, the airport was the home of the Douglas Aircraft company. The first circumnavigation of the world by air took off from and returned to Clover Field in 1924 {source: wiki}

But it's also curious that:

Quote:
Pearland Regional Airport (PRA) has been a fixture on the Brazoria County landscape for many years. First developed as Clover Field in 1940, this privately owned general aviation airport now houses well over 200 aircraft used for business and recreation, as well as a variety of other tenants on the airport property. {source: website}

For the record, if he's nodding to certain relevant elements, what is cloverfield a nod toward? We began the whole topic of the trailer with an initial hunt for the relevance to Cloverfield, but it was derailed and abandoned in the distraction of the Ethan Haas business. It has not been pursued to any real length to uncover what is being referenced here by the "working title" Cloverfield. The lead to the Santa Monica airport was hijacked by Ethan Haas.

Perhaps we should pick this trail again and see where it leads, if anywhere?

It might be worth another look, but my guess is that "Cloverfield" is a more-or-less random moniker that they came up with, simply because they had to call it something. There's a Cloverfield Blvd in Santa Monica, which intersects I-10 at a junction known locally as the "Cloverfield Exit." Paramount Studios are a ways off, in Hollywood, but it wouldn't surprise me if Paramount or Bad Robot had offices on or near Cloverfield Blvd, or near the Cloverfield Exit.

I keep picturing Messrs. Abrams and Burk, and maybe others with Paramount or Bad Robot, discussing a possible codename while riding/driving through that area. They see a sign for Cloverfield Blvd, and then it's, "That's it! Let's call it Cloverfield!" Nice neutral name, which has no relevance whatsoever to the project or the movie, and therefore reveals nothing about it.

The Bad Robot offices are located on the intersection of Olympic and Cloverfield blvd. in Santa Monica. I'll go with random working title.
