"Cheese" was the fake name for the shoot at which the call sheet for the final day of filming was supposedly leaked - perhaps "hammer" and "mitten" are other fake names people should look for where filming is going on?

Filming is finished its all in post production now, IE. CGI and editing, which with a movie like this is gonna take a while.

I'm pulling out this old post (my first post at UnFiction) Smile because I feel like I may have been right, I hope someday the truth comes out. FOUND fits in with so much Matt Reeves said in his new interview:

"Reeves adds somewhat cryptically that there was another title that they almost used…

"There was this other title that we really loved," he recalls. "And it was again another title that had to do with an aspect of the movie… you would have to see the movie to understand what it was called. And so it was in a way another mysterious word. And when it finally came down to it, we thought, 'Well, first of all, it's been Cloverfield in our heads for all this time. And second of all, the idea that everyone already knows that it's Cloverfield, and we're going to change it from one word that people think is mysterious to another word that people think is mysterious? What's the point of that?' So we were like, 'You know what? The movie is Cloverfield.'"

"And we thought it would be great, especially since everyone would know going in that it's a monster movie, to start a movie and do it in this very [realistic] style as if it was found footage."

"The film is shot in such a way as to appear to be "found footage" from just such a camcorder that was in use, on and off, throughout the attack on New York by the monster (or monsters) that has only been hinted at so far in the trailers."

So:
had to do with an aspect of the movie… you would have to see the movie to understand what it was called

another mysterious word

change it from one word that people think is mysterious to another word that people think is mysterious

Also used in the Widget tagline "Something has FOUND us"

So there is proof it wasn't going to be called Cloverfield until it kinda stuck and it was one mysterious word ( not 1-18-08} which had to do with an aspect of the movie (the footage was FOUND).

I think I may have found the real title of the movie.

"FOUND"

Reason# 1

There is a good speculation going around that the movie starts with either children or the army finding the video camera and footage in a devastated New York.
(very Blair Witch like)
So Found seems to fit right in.

Reason #2

Harry at Ain't It Cool News said about his note from JJ Abrams that: "So JJ Abrams wrote me to give us all a clue, cuz we're at square one of this mystery!"

But there isn't any clue!
Saying the fans only found one of the sites isn't really a clue.
So where can the real clue be, in capital letters in plain site.

Dear Sir,

Thanks for your support of our little movie. I can't wait to talk to you more about it -- of course, knowing you, by the time we talk you'll know more than I will.

Regarding the online stuff you posted: yeah, we're doing some fun stuff on the web. But, obviously, if the movie doesn't kick some massive behind, who gives a rat's about what's online? So as you can imagine, we're focusing mostly on THAT. For what it's worth, the only site of ours that people have even FOUND is the 1-18-08.com site. The others (like the Ethan Haas sites) have nothing to do with us.

Stay cool the rest of the summer -- and thanks per usual for AICN!

JJ

Reason #3

A little tongue-in-cheek joke from the creator of "LOST".

Reason #4

I found this later and this is why I'm excited about it.

In Slusho history at the slusho! site count the words from the end of the history. Do not count the slogan(you can't drink just six) but start at the last word which is Slusho! Remember to count hyphenated words as one. The 108 th word is FOUND!!!

Maybe that is why it is japanese so you read from the end instead of the beginning because after all THE BEGINNING IS THE END.

Reason #5

The sites -abramsfound.org, abramsfound.net, abramsfound.com has recently been registered but before the trailer came out.

Registrar Name....: REGISTER.COM, INC.
Registrar Whois...: whois.register.com
Registrar Homepage: www.register.com

I think MONSTROUS on the poster looks more like a tag line than a title.

Cloverfield isn't a mysterious title, it is a pointless title. I think they are mistaken if they think that "everyone" already knows this movie as Cloverfield, unless by everyone they mean us and a few bloggers. Wink

I'm sorry they didn't come up with a better name. I was convinced that the reason they didn't show the name on the original trailer was because they knew how lame "Cloverfield" is as the title for a monster movie. To me, "Cloverfield" sounds like something Renee Zellwegger would be starring in and speaking with her English accent whilst arranging flowers in the drawing room. I'm sure that once I've seen the movie I will feel differently about it, but that isn't going to help them with all those people who look at a theater marquee and think "Cloverfield.. is that a chick flick?"

The reason this thread isn't dying is because now everyone can spend time trying to guess what the alternate title would have been...endless fodder for speculation. And, endless speculation is just what we members of this 1-18-08 happy fun subforum have grown to love. Wink

honestly, I don't really buy this theory. It's too cheesy when contrasted with "LOST" and also, found isn't really a title you would have to see the film to come up with.

I don't know; I went to see I Am Legend yesterday (awesome movie, btw), and they had a cardboard cutout of the Statue of Liberty poster with "Cloverfield" at the bottom. The name is also in the extended trailer. Unless they're advertising with "Cloverfield" as the cover name? Question

There's a similar quote to the one you posted, from IESB:
Quote:
taking the title from one word that people don't understand and find is mysterious to another word that people don't understand and find is mysterious.

To me this seems to suggest that the other name wasn't 'Found', as I wouldn't say that Found is a word you could describe as something people don't understand.
I'm sure people will disagree with that, but you could argue the same thing with pretty much any single word film title.

Not asking anyone to agree. It's just something I've been thinking for weeks and this seems as good a thread as any.

The name is definely Cloverfield now . In the new interview by the director he said at one time there was another title. A title that had one word, was mysterious, and protrayed a certain aspect of the movie.

Maybe the name being considered was "Chuai"? I hope not, then this guy will be back:

I HIGHLY doubt they'll change the name with just a month to go on the release. I mean, there aren't a hell of a lot of people that know the name's Cloverfield, but enough that it would be a pretty big no-no to change the name this far into it.
